From Aliexpress description: > This battery has a built-in high-quality 3.7V1000mAh lithium battery. It uses its own patent boost technology to boost the battery to 9V. I don't know why they lie about these things for marketing. A 450mAh 9v USB rechargeable battery is already a good product.

Agreed, that is what I thought it would be, 1000mA of 3.7V lithium pack, BEFORE being boosted to 9V, like you said the capacity as actually still OK, which is why I still have a link to buy them and think that they are OK.

@@TheDefpom Unfortunately, they do that this way quite often. For example power banks, most of them has stated "raw" capacity (e.g. 20Ah), not "consumable" capacity (e.g. 12Ah).

Where did you get those Banana input screw terminals for this load? I would love to have those too, I hate the standard thumb screw caps.

I found them on eBay, had the same threads so they just screw straight on. They do require a washer though as they won’t screw right down due to the threaded hole being too shallow.

Have you discovered any current 9 volt rechargables that have higher mahs capacity and output at 8.4 volts or higher when fully charged. ? Ty

Thanks for running that test for us, very useful information. Have you tested the maximum current output? Also will it still provide 9V while being charged via micro-USB? I wonder if it's protected against charging, in case a device tries to recharge it from the 9V terminals.

Microwave Dave - I didn’t want to risk damaging the battery with excessive current. But I did try charging at the same time as drawing current from it, and the charging current increased.

AllTheGearNoIdea - not yet, when I first got them I gave them a short top up charge (only for 10 minutes) and then put them away, a month later they charged in about 45 minutes, so approx 1/2 charged. I have fully charged them and will check them again from time to time to see how they go.

How noisy is the output? Could you maybe scope it with and without a load? If not noisy it would be a nice option for most multimeters

1000mAh might be the raw capacity of the lithium cell at 3.7v. As the voltage drops while discharging (which is good to be able to use a battery indicator) you get less and less energy per mAh out of the battery. Comparing mWh is more useful here. But besides that: does the battery cut of itself at some point? Otherwise deep discharge might be a danger.
@TheDefpom
@TheDefpom 3 жыл бұрын
Indeed, that is the assumption in regards to the battery. I haven't tried discharging to find a cut off voltage, when I go to use the batteries I will find that out.

Yeah, I measured around 600mAh when I tried a few types (with no boost converter) some years ago (just checked, that video was published in May 2016. Time flies). I would think there is no way to pack more than, say, 700 into this volume given the state-of-the-art energy density of Li-Poly chemistry. The boost converter will inevitably waste at least a few %.
@TheDefpom
@TheDefpom 3 жыл бұрын
They don't replace a traditional battery in a low draw device as it would self discharge too quickly, but in medium and higher discharge devices they would be fairly good I think. I think even 500mAh isn't too bad really, and is probably more than most standard batteries in reality, a quick google search shows a typical 9V cell having between 310mAh and 450mAh of capacity using a cut off voltage at about 6V, I just found this which looked interesting: www.powerstream.com/9V-Alkaline-tests.htm

@@ecospider5 I also think batteries should be rated in Watt hours,which is a function of both voltage and current, rather than Ampere hours which does not take into account the voltage. Of course, an average voltage would need to be applied to these ratings since the voltage is in continuous decline. >

Well, kind of, the value of 1000mAh is probably the actual lithium cell capacity, but due to it being boosted up to 9V it halves that, plus the losses of the boost converter.

Hmm most batterys don't have a capacity stated on them, so it's difficult to know what to expect. I would have thought a 50 mA constant drain down to a cutoff voltage of 7 volts would be fair. Maybe a alkaline pp3 from a supermarket would be fair discharge comparison. I also expected the voltage to stay above 7 volts :-(

I truly don't understand where one of these batteries would be used. They self-discharge quite rapidly due to the boost regulator constantly running... Unless one has a high draw device which would typically burn through batteries daily, using this product in a device with a low power consumption and infrequent use would be frustrating.

Torsten Tiedtke / once my current multimeter or LCR meter dies then I will be using one of these to see how long they last. As the purchase price for one of these batteries is the same as a normal battery to me it is worth a shot, even if it only lasts a month or two between charges, they only take 2 hours to recharge.

@@TheDefpom Here in Canada, the rechargeable 9V cost me around 8x more than a standard 9V disposable...so difficult to justify especially since most 9V batteries last a year or more in a DMM. Looking forward to your findings in the DMM / LCR meter !
