Pitch looking superb - remember we were coming to the end of our worst ever drought and lawns everywhere turned yellow, then brown almost into dust. Probably the only green patch in the whole of Suffolk, let alone Ipswich. We endured pretty much 95 consecutive days at 95' degrees fahrenheit. The entire UK became Majorca. Reservoirs everywhere dried up and became baked mud. Personally I found it unbearable. Thankfully, ten days after this match, the heavens opened and we went back to our usual cooler weather.

I think l was there but memory is a funny thing. Watching now l am always struck by how calm Mick Mills always was. He was not quick and not tall but he didn’t make many mistakes and always seemed to have time and space. At the end of his career when he played in midfield he made a real fist of it. Aah happy days

Great win. But these were the days of hooliganism. I was in the Churchmans, when this Spurs fan (most of whom were in the North Stand), obviously pretty drunk, was going round these (obviously non-hooligans) asking everyone (including me) 'do you wanna come?' We all said no, here for the footie, not wanting a fight. Suddenly, two massive Town fans appeared, as well as another Spurs fan, somehow. The crowds parted, and suddenly there were two Ipswich and two Spurs fans scrapping. The old bill came along and sorted them out, and we were left to enjoy the game. And what a game!
