Leaving our Mooring at Rugeley on the Trent and Mersey Canal and heading towards Great Haywood and onto the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. This week we take a trip back by car to Fradley Junction to meet a lovely watcher, Jean. Paul tells the story of a death on the canal as we approach Brindley Bank Aqueduct where Christina Collins was found murdered.
Spring has sprung and new life - lambs, ducklings and baby ladybirds are seen beside the canals. The haunted Bishton Hall becomes our mooring place for a few nights and I take a trip back to London, to meet friends, on he same train line that the Colwich Junction train crash occurred on some years ago. We leave you this week at a beautiful mooring spot at Tixall wide on the Staffs and Worcester Canal.
We hope you have enjoyed this latest narrowboat vlog and continue to join us on our future Narrowboat adventures and journeys. If you're interested in narrowboat life, then our channel is for you!

Thanks for the mention, we thoroughly enjoyed meeting you both, sorry all 3. I’m have to congratulate you on the research you do. As you said we leap frogged you along there and whilst aware of the horror story didn’t realise it happened there. Keep up the great work. Maybe we’ll meet again later in year for another beer and maybe a bite next time. Take care.

Ernie star of the vlog this week and he has viewers treats bless him. Paul I think with the tree trunks with A in means they are ash and have been cut down due to having a disease . I watched a program on it the other day . Liz you looked so happy in London do you miss that . Obviously your new lifestyle is very different is there anything you miss? Have a fantastic week guys . Another great vlog guys 🎉🎉

Hi there Deb. Ernies always the star of the show 😉 I'm thinking very hard about your question. Although I miss meeting up with friends and family I don't miss much else, I love this new lifestyle. If I couldn't stay connected with people via mobile, social media etc then this may have been a different answer. 😊

Paul, Liz and Captain Ernie As always such a pleasure to watch your vlog. Paul just to add a bit to the story about Christine Collins. Apparently she had spoken to the lock keeper and expressed her concerns. The keeper suggested that when she got to London that she put in a report. As we all know she never made it. Such a sad story. Hi Mark, have you also read or heard that they apparently relooked at the case a few years ago and they say that one of the men should never have been hung as the evidence and testimonials shouldn't have been relied on 😳

Wolseley bridge mooring is one of our favourites with the nearby garden centre, wetland centre and not forgetting a great Indian restaurant. Looking forward to returning later this year if we ever get off the Kennet and Avon. Water levels are causing issues. Great Hayward again is a must especially the custard donuts at their farm shop. I’m nearly caught up with your vlogs as I have been binge watching for the past week. Keep up the good work ❤❤

*Morena Liz, Paul & Ernie 🙂 I love how some property owners have made their backyards looking so awesome to view from the canals.🙂Thanks for the history lessons. I wonder what happened to the boatmen after the murder of Christina Collins?? Will G search.😞Hello RAY.. 🙂 Liz, I also mark where the missing puzzles piece/s should go as well 🙂 DAVID, Happy birthday on the 28th April 2024. 🙂Paul I hope caught something on that day 🙂nz* Today it is the 25th April 2024 Thursday morning... and it is ANZAC day for NZ & Aussie. Lest we forget... "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them." ANZAC - stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) troops first landed on the beaches of the Gallipoli Peninsula, in Turkey on 25 April 1915 (WWl). ANZAC Day became an official holiday in 1921.Aotearoa New Zealand.

Hi Andrea and happy remembrance day. ANZAC. Two of the men were publicly hanged for Christina's murder and the 3rd was sent to Australia. There are reports that one of the men hanged shouldn't have been as they relooked at the case several years later and found the evidence insignificant and testimonials were not accurate. Hope you have a good week 😊

As well as surviving the harsh conditions as a convict. You & Paul also have a great week... hopefully you will be having great sunny weather 🙂.*

Thanks for another entertaining start to my day! I love the way some people organise their backyards for the enjoyment of canal users. There are still a lot of people out there with a healthy sense of humour. Did you catch anything Paul? Are there many fish in the canals, and are they worth eating? And good on you, Ray!
@uponreflection
@uponreflection 2 ай бұрын
Hi Neil. Glad you enjoyed the video. Paul is catching more fish now the weather is warming a little. Its illegal to take fish from the canal and I honestly wouldn't eat anything from the canal anyway, its not the cleanest. 🤣😊

Aaawwww What lovely gifts from Jean, knitting is a dying art you don't see many young people doing it these days. It's amazing when you think all those muddy towpaths will turn to grass in a couple of weeks. With your float in the tree Paul you could of said you were trying for flying fish? lol ...Try fishing righ along side the boat Paul the fish are always at the base of the side slopes about three feet deep. Good story that about Christina. I remember that train crash Liz. I went to my boat this week, gave it a spring clean and a good wash, loads of Bluebells and crocus out spring is upon us at last. Jesus Liz thought you were gonna do the daft voice for a minute there haha! :) brilliant as usual Always look forward to Wednesdays, :)

Another great vlog. The firing you heard could have been clay pigeon shooting, common pastime around there. I went into Lichfield last week and stood in front of the Catherdral. Having lived here for 58 years I had never counted the statues on the front of the building. I stood and looked up and before I could start the rain came down so I just had to run to the tearooms for a coffee and cake.
@uponreflection
@uponreflection 2 ай бұрын
Hi Jean, yes I think you're probably right about the clay pigeon shoot. Trust it to rain when you were counting the statues. I just googled how many when I got home from there 🤣 didn't think to stand there and count them myself 🤣😊

Question. During my last visit to England I was greeted on the streets in York with "You alright?" I was taken aback (I didn't know why strangers were asking me if I was alright) and returned with a timid (&confused) "Yes." I finally figured out it was like our usual greeting (to people we know) of "Hi! How are you?" Which we answer "Fine. And you?" Is the proper answer "Yes. And you?" to "You alright?" or something like that? To strangers we ususally just say "Hi" or "hello". I'm visiting England again soon and would like to get it right!

Hi Susan. 2 of the men were hanged publicly and the other got shipped off to Australia. However, the case got re looked at a few years back and there is speculation that one of the men who got hanged possibly shouldn't have been as the evidence and testimonials given at the time were questionable 🤔 😳
