James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers stole Game 1 from the Boston Celtics in a 119-115 win as (+10) underdogs with Joel Embiid sidelined. Harden led the way for Philly, tying his career playoff high with 45 points that included the go-ahead three-pointer with eight seconds remaining. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe discuss the biggest reason the Sixers pulled off the upset.

I feel like only Celtic fans understand what’s happening. We easily played good enough to win but our Achilles heel is that we switch everything and just allow teams to get whatever match up they want and it’s usually on Horford and then we leave him on an island. It’s why Steph destroyed us in the finals, it’s why Trae young started cooking us and it’s why James harden beat us last night

Teams don’t necessarily have to play switch d to get switched on for one, and two you’re still only hyper focusing on your own team. The Sixers just played without Embiid and despite the win, he still proved he’s the mvp by how y’all started the game - it was straight line drives to the hole every time without any paint protection, and so Doc threw on a zone. Then Tatum started raining 3s. The paint points, big lead, and good shooting to start off the game that y’all had does not exist with Embiid.

Oh stop, just because a player is efficient doesn't mean he could average 30 if he shot more. Harden doesn't have the first step quickness he used to have, he can't get to the rim like he used and as a result, he isn't capable of the same things he used to be. He might be able to do it for a game or two but for a whole series? I'll believe it when I see it.

James Harden couldn't beat the Tim Duncan Spurs, Steph Curry's GSW or LeBron's Lakers. People got it twisted and thought that meant unproven teams like the Celtics could step up and beat him. There's a long list of other playoff teams Harden disposed of when healthy. This is not such an easy out for Boston.

I feel bad for brown. 1st I.T. got in the way of his development then kyrie, hayward and horford big 3 and now tatum. Its clear tatum doesnt want brown to overshadow him. Im tired of brown getting these hot starts just for the coaching and teammates not to look for him throughout the game. This isnt jordan and pippen with a clear number 1. Tatum and Brown are almost equal yet tatum gets the commercials and thumbnails. I hope that doesn't bother Brown and he stays with Boston. But maybe he wants to lead a team as he should with the celtics. He was here 1st. He has the fire and will. And brings the smoke to the other teams best player.

@IamGrandMagus literally nobody thought he could pull this off, hence the lack of expectations, if you can find the masses that said he was gonna do this and he still came thru I'd be willing to let his past be his past. But dude has literally made a career out of coming up short in the postseason, one great game isn't gonna make me forget about the choke artist he was for the rest of his career when people were actually expecting these types of performances outta him and he never delivered. I'm not saying it was a bad game I'm just saying I still don't trust him in the playoffs.

@IamGrandMagus also just cuz eyes are on you doesn't mean they're expecting anything out of you, my statement still stands. Next game when the same eyes are on him except actually expecting this type of performance outta him will he deliver? That's been the question his whole career.

@@jackrosado746 if he didnt do this next game it wouldnt mean hes "washed" which is exactly what people like you will say. All that matters is he delivered in a game that Embiid couldnt play so that he could lead his team to victory and thats all that matters in this situation. If he plays off or bad next game its just how basketball works, but he also might get another 30+ points along with joel embiid. And if maxey can get anywhere near 30 pts a game in this series too its going to be an insane series for the celtics.

Needed every point, Vs a miles ahead better team, and more efficient unlike somebody who took nearly 40 shots to get 50 points and was still playing in 4th after being up by almost 30 🙄. Now is that stat padding or a legendary performance 🤔🤔🤔🤔

James is like Russ. He gotta be that number 1 guy to be the most effective version of himself. I’m not saying that it contributes towards more wins but you definitively get a top 5 player and potential mvp. That’s why when Harden becomes that role player, people tend to forget about him and say he fell off when he never did….he’s just being a professional by showing that he’s coach-able and willing to do whatever it takes to improve any team’s situation. His leadership as grown in bunches as well.

Most counted the Sixers out, not saying that the Sixers will win the series but even in my hometown of Philly the radio stations had significant doubts. Before the game, I told my nephew that the Sixers play differently without Embidd, don't get me wrong, Embidd is a beast but they will play a lot faster without him, but they will sometimes lack inside help without Embidd. The Sixers are a 4th quarter team, if you keep them close the percentage of winning is greater. In all sports, if you can stay close you always have a chance.

This might be the most impressive performance by James Harden to date?! His post up game, big 3's he made, facilitated for his teammates, put the 76ers on his back. Maxey stepped up his game too. To win a game in which Tatum went off, on the road, changed the outlook of this series.

I keep hearing Houston harden but the thing is this is better than Houston Harden. He had far more control over the pace of the game and played way better defense. I never seen so much communication and leadership between him and his teammates. FEAR THE BEARD.

I'm sorry but it's silly to say jaylen brown is scarier than Jayson Tatum. It's like saying bane scares you more than ja lol Tatum is just more skilled and gifted. I absolutely love browns game but it's just not a comparison. Brown is productive but your role players can replace that production. Your role players can't replace the level of difficult shot-making that Tatum brings.

@deesee2051 you can easily tell that. The sure way to tell is by boston shooting so many 3s after they were successful driving to the basket whenever they wanted and playing no defense. Its why the hawks wom a couple games and why they lost to bad teams. They think they cam just walk in amd have a 3pt shooting contest and win. They can easily get to the basket on any team
