Pulling into the lanes of Street Car Takeover’s Bristol event at Tennessee’s “Thunder Valley” dragway, this speed demon hatchback entered into the Mild Street Roll Race class AND the Front Wheel Drive Drag Race class! Mostly making passes looking for crucial tuning data, the owner and his Mazdaspeed 3 had a great time making pass after pass. One pass he even managed to backhalf a Supra in the roll race, which is where the car really caught our attention!

Craig Henley You clearly know absolutely nothing about true racing. It’s impossible to drag race, on the streets or on a legitimate drag strip without breaking parts. Literally doesn’t even matter if you’ve got the absolute best parts money can buy/you or anyone else can find, they’ll break. It just simply is what it is. You break, or you don’t. You win, or you lose. Racing is just one big and very popular type of gambling. Lol.

Ricky Creason not quite how it works.. if u have a 2.0 twin turbo that makes like 4000hp, then of course it will break something when racing. But if u had like a 16 litre n/a engine with also 4000hp then u will less likely break something. Its all about how much u stress the engine

I liked everything about my 2010 MS3, except for how it looked on the interior and exterior. 2007-2009 were the best years to own an MS3.

Yea I love the way my 08 looks compared to the gen 2s. And I like that Ford had a huge part in the motor. I'm super familiar with rebuilding ford motors haha it's a fun car and reliable if you know what your doing. I must say there picky motors.thougb

@@dannyjr7997 Could always swap out the final drive. I've seen some 4.6-4.9 (I think? around that anyway) aftermarket kits that look pretty fun. Anything above 4.5 could be a bit too short tho and you'd always be at higher rpms while cruising.

@@Jeff-lo4ud Actually, the 2.5's take quite well to boost and speed3 parts fit on the 2.5l. Its pretty expensive, and there is a little bit of farbicating you need to do, but all the major parts you need to boost a 2.5 already exist as upgrades for speeds.

I've had mine for 10 years and I'm on the same block and same engine internals. Bigger "baby" turbo with supporting bolt ons. It's all about how you take care of it, with the exception of drag racing. That shot will break anything eventually

Turbo as long as it's not the skyactiv so like 2010-2013 I think. The compression ratio is so high in the skyactiv motors, that they really can't take much boost at all and like to blow.

This is literally the first Mazda Speed 3 that i've seen with more than 400HP. I guess this proves that more power can be had out of that 2.3 engine. But what happened at the end of the video? Friends of mine who own Speed 3's say they are notorious for throwing codes which makes modifying a serious pain in the arse.

1000hp has been made in a speed3. 500hp used to be a unicorn build for speed but these days 650+ is getting considerably more common

Like the people rolling around with 1000HP K20/k24 builds. Amazing to me. I'll be pushing close to 500 soon in my BK2 Genesis with a GT3582 turbo upgrade. That's enough for me bro.

@@Sk0die Sad to say no. After the tune on the dyno I never did get around to tracking it. But she's def quick enough to pull on 392 & Scat Pack Chargers / Challengers and 5.0 Mustangs on the regular. That's on the highway.. from a dig at a stop light it's a totally different story! Turbo lag man. But yeah.. she's a fun car and I'll probably keep her at this level as she's been pretty reliable. Oh.. I'm lying.. I did blow the head gasket a few months after she got tuned. So that was another few thousand to make sure that didn't happen again. SO after that yeah.. she's been running great.

A 700+hp Mazdaspeed blew up on it's first time back out after the rebuild..... SHOCKER! Can't say I didn't see that coming! That thing is quite the monster on the back-half tho, hope he can rebuild and get into the 9s!

Too bad mazda killed off mazdaspeed because they view it as "childish". Really sad because it was one of the last good japanese hatchbacks. I really hate where the car industry is going but what can you do :/

Really is a shame. I finally got a car I can call my own, I got the standard Mazda 3 and I absolutely love it. Even for a standard model it looks really nice and sporty. Over here in the UK (the 'speed3 versions) they're called "Mazda 3 MPS".

I just sold my mazdaspeed 6. Best car I’ve ever owned. Especially with the AWD. All at standard specs. Would eat a standard wrx etc

Man, ppl keep saying how these 20-30 yr Hondas are whooping on these cars made in the 2008-2013. You'll do know there are huge differences in weight based off the safety standards of both time periods. Never see anyone talking big about the Civics of the same time period as when the Mazdaspeeds were produced...
