Summary of Advice for Essay: Introduction: Restate the given argument. Mention briefly that there are flaws in the given argument. Body Paragraphs: a. First Paragraph: Call out the most significant flaw in the argument. Explain why this flaw undermines the argument. b. Second Paragraph (and subsequent ones if needed): Point out the next significant flaw. Discuss why this flaw is problematic. Conclusion: Begin with the statement: "As it stands, however, the argument is flawed for the reasons indicated..." Summarize the main flaws you've discussed. Conclude with a suggestion or a generalized statement about the topic. Writing Tips from the Transcript: Use a consistent and formal tone throughout. Avoid using "I" or personal statements. Use transition words to make your essay coherent. Make sure to address the flaws in the argument as presented, and articulate why they undermine the validity of the argument.

I'll try to include some background music and improve the video quality for the next one. :) *Note: I didn't include official practice problems because they're copywritten and strictly patrolled. Here's some timestamps to structure the video since it's a bit long: 0:55 - Test anxiety & background info 2:20 - My scores (proof) & score progression 3:30 - How you should treat the GMAT 4:30 - GMAT Essay Tips (ALWAYS score a 6) 10:30 - Key tip for the essay 11:30 - Brief overview of the Quantitative section 12:30 - General studying flow advice (for practice tests) 13:30 - Brief overview of the Verbal section 15:45 - My advice == Success?? 17:20 - What hurts your score the most? 19:00 - The way I took practice tests Stay tuned for more specifics in the next video for: Verbal, Quantitative, IR strategies!

Good advice ... but no one should beat themselves down if they have to spend more time to score well. I have known someone who did not even study or take any mock test before taking GMAT and scored 780 - because before GMAT, these people had spent numerous hours during their high school or college working on similar problems to build the foundation, while at their jobs (especially those who work as engineers/ programmers/ lawyers), their ability to think logically is also being tested constantly. Geniuses are made not born. I m preparing for GMAT, following the same approach, but could only score 700 (Q44, V41) - because honestly, I was an Arts major, have graduated from college for many years, and have lost touch to most of the high school math. So the strategy is sound but the short preparation timeframe works only for those who already have a great foundation in both math and English. I m in my 3rd month of studying, to prepare for my second attempt. I doubt I will be able to get 70+ improvement just in two weeks still.
@jomoluda
@jomoluda 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I identify with your opinion. So have you done the second attempt?
@TheGeminancer
@TheGeminancer 4 жыл бұрын
@@jomoluda yup, after almost SIX months of dedicated study, I got 740 (Q50, V40). No shortcut, really. I practiced every day for at least an hour, sometimes up to 6 hours. I chatted with my friend, who scored 780 without studying and found out he actually did GRE awhile ago. And he had spent at least a year preparing for GRE, which he found to be much harder than GMAT. It certainly made me feel really upset seeing people boasting how they got 700+ in 1-3 months. But I soon realized the message that they conveyed was very misleading because people should consider how these test-takers have built their foundation in the first place.
@jomoluda

Gem Pony Wow! Welldone. You don’t sound satisfied with the score but it is a massive improvement. I’m writing by end of August and will post my score. If I think my prep won’t get me 730-760, I won’t take it.
@TheGeminancer
@TheGeminancer 4 жыл бұрын
@@jomoluda thank you. yes, try to score 730+ in at least 3 official mock. Are you applying to US/ Europe B-schools? Most US B-schools are more concerned about quant performance. I have seen some who score 710 with Q51 and V38 getting into Wharton. But if you are from an over-represented pool, then definitely a great quant + verbal would work in your favour. Good luck! :))

@@TheGeminancer congrats on your score! I strongly agree on what you said about the foundation of those with technical backgrounds. I started preparing 2 weeks back, and really it will take some time to get the basics ready in quant for me! I aim to give my first real attempt in December, I target to get good by then let's see! The advice from the video is good too that, focusing on getting the easy right all through is needed

I took the GMAT back in 2019 and got a dismal score of 620. I had spent 3 or 4 months prior to the GMAT with a tutor who was tutoring me on the math part of the exam. He claimed that he knew what he was talking about, but once I got to the exam, all those studying sessions were thrown out the window because all of the math related questions on the test were totally unrelated to the hundreds of math questions that he had me practicing for 3-4 months. It was a tutor from Varsity Tutors by the way. I'll never forget that. I couldn't believe it. I feel so discouraged now when it comes to trying to prep for this exam again. But I'm going to try......

It's good practice here in Boston where crashes happens a lot. Just not anywhere around me. People need to seriously start investing in walking with ice cream. It would really help lower everyone's car insurance rates.

@Baober

Read a lot as a kid, not so much in the past 6 years. Mostly internet articles, the occasional novel. I’m not amazing at reading research papers, even in college. My native language is English. Reading scientific articles may be the best way to prepare for how confusing the wording is in GMAT passages, as they sample mostly scientific and historical texts

Hi How R U ? Amazing videos as usual ! Sorry for disturbing, I had a question about the way I should organize my revisions on the Gmat Club website: I started 2 weeks ago to prepare for my gmat exam, which will take place in a center on Febuary 3 2021. So now, I have about 2 monts and a half til the exam date. Is it better to train a topic by topic (like for example in DS Absolute Values/Modules, then Algebra, Arithmetic while doing question of different levels of difficulty) or is it better to use directly the "100 Hardest and easiest questions of October 2020" sections for each subjects (DS, PS, IR, CR, RC, etc.) ? Cause I've been doing the first method since the beginning of my revisions but I see that it takes a lot of time lmao Thx !

Do the 100 Easiest, ensure you are absolutely confident on them, and then move onto medium topic by topic. Try the 100 hardest only once you’re absolutely not getting anything easy wrong, and medium 80-90%+ of the time

Good video in general, even though there are some points that have proven to be myths in it. Example: Score consistently over the first 20 questions and you'll be fine. While that is true, it does not mean that you will not be fine when you mess up 3 out of the 5 first questions. That really isn't how it works. Other than that: congrats and thanks for the video.
