I was hated for no reason. They just keep telling me to change yourself but it's not easy and instant as they say... I went through a mental breakdown but after that I decided to hide the reason on why I went nuts. Because of them saying the same thing over and over and over again. I developed a habit of talking to myself. I lost my trust to everyone in here, It's as if I live alone. Only I trust myself, That is my way of life. Everytime I talk to myself I feel a positive feeling, That makes everything better. But when I talk about it I just remember everything. This is the last time I'm gonna talk about it.

I like how in the last chorus, he keeps switching from screaming to a more mellow, defeated tone. It just makes it that much more real and raw cause at the beginning you TRY to explain, but at the end you just give up, cause no one is listening. The defeated tone becomes more like a monologue, with him screaming to try and get other people to listen to him, but fails.

Chester was a husband, a father, a band frontman, and he had Millions of fans to impress. That takes a huge toll on a man. Unfortunately he lost the battle with his depression. I like to look at it as an example of what not to do and to fight through depression. Which led to him taking his life. Dead, but never gone. R.I.P Chester ❤️

I remember being a kid and everyone saying I was just like my father. This song really resonated with me at the time. Now I have a son of my own. He's just like me and my dad and my grandpa. Not a bad thing mind you, but stubborn and headstrong. Now I'm trying to find that balance between letting him find his own way and guiding him away from the pitfalls that I made along my stubborn way. Which I've finally realized was all that my own father was trying to do for me when I was a kid. The lyric that resonates now is "You were just like me with someone disappointed in you." f**k...I'm trying my best as a father and inevitably I'm falling short. Just like my Dad did. He made me feel like I was always failing, my path was always wrong. I never took things seriously enough and was just wasting my talents. I've only now realized it was out of love and trying to save me from the challenges that come from not taking advantage of the opportunities that are handed to us when we are young. I gotta do better. I have to make him feel, know and understand, that I realize this is his journey and as long as he's safe, I'm always there cheering him on.

i listen to this song full blast when i walk home from school and this kid goes next to me and is like “dont u usually listen to Lana Del Rey, or The Chainsmokers, or whatever?” and i just smile at him. I feel this song so much. It's not just a parent song. It's an overall discontent with expectations of everyone towards you. Relationships, bosses, parents, society. After all of these years, still means so much to me, this song still applies. Chester was one of the greatest rock voices of all time. Debate me. Lol. RIP

I feel like this song has always reflected moments in my life that I’ve endured. My brother and his fiancé constantly putting me down and calling me dumb and stupid and that I should be put in a mental institution, my dad calling me a liar and preferring his stepdaughter over his own flesh and blood meanwhile I’m trying to help my own mother get by in life, all the while she’s not too well her own self these days and not being allowed to see her new granddaughter due to my brother banning both me and our mother from seeing her because of disagreements. This song has held a major part in my life as I want to be less like my family and more like me, not having anyone tell me that I’m nothing and that I’ll never be anything in my life.

This perfectly explains what I go through on a daily basis at home what my parents think I have to be or I’ll fail in life and if I get a bad grade grounded for a year I have to be perfect or I’m worthless to my parents and my body is very out of shape and my parents fat shame me which makes my eating disorder worse and definitely doesn’t motivate me to get rid of the weight gained from stress eating and having an eating disorder so therefore my parents do not care what my mental state is they have to benefit off of what I do in life or it’s useless
