Is it possible to cut through a 10 cm spruce trunk with a 7 cm wood saw from a 91 mm SAK? In this video i teach you a special sawing technique with which it is possible to saw logs that are larger in diameter than the length of the saw.

Felix saying outright that this is only useful when you don't have a larger saw is wonderful. People ask me a lot why I like my victorinox so much when the tools are so small and limited. They aren't there to be my primary tools, but solutions when I don't, if that makes sense.

Yes, simply rotate the log as you cut continuously till its finished, theoretically you can cut (almost) twice the diameter of your blade. Excellent tips!

Klasse Technik, Felix! Gerade heute habe ich gedacht, es wäre an der Zeit, mein uraltes Spartan in den wohlverdienten Ruhestand zu schicken (dann darf es zwar noch, muss aber nimmer) und mir ein neues Victorinox mit mehr Funktionen zuzulegen. A ball point pen is often better than a pencil, particularly on darker wood. I trained under a very skilled cabinet maker who used one a lot, obviously only if it's a mark you don't need to remove or is going to be hidden though, we genrally do cut the mark off anyway so is rarely an issue

You don't even have to cut through the hole trunk. If you're somewhat down half way to the center, forget the saw and smash the weak point against a rock or a tree and it will break off - saves a lot of time. If it's already dead for some years and the bark is already gone it might be enough to saw away 1/3 to the center.

The log diameter must be significantly less than 14cm (twice the saw length).

Viel Glück und viel Sägen, Felix! Ich fand ja schon immer, dass der beste Moment beim Sägen der ist, in dem das abgeschnittene Stück nach unten purzelt.Und der Schmerz im Arm deutlich nachlässt 😁😁😁 Die Methode ist klasse (und Dein Durchhaltevermögen Legende), ich benütz die auch bei dünneren Ästen pa dem Trumm hier, wenn das Holz zu hart ist ... da bild ich mir dann ein, es ginge leichter. Da nehm ich dann auch keine Quadrate sondern Dreiecke.😁 Danke für die geniale Vorführung und viel Spaß! LG, Robert

@@FelixImmler Ja probieren geht über studieren - obwohl Du das wahrscheinlich gar nicht brauchst, die europäischen Hölzer sind ja nicht so extrem hart wie manches von dem Zeug, was mir hier unterkommt. Mein Trick ist halt immer zu versuchen, nie den vollen Durchmesser zu sägen, da säg ich dann eben lieber von ein paar Seiten und halte die Schnittdurchmesser möglichst kurz. Manchmal dreh ich das Holz auch so um ca. 15°-30°, säg ein bißchen, dann wieder diesen Winkel, und so weiter. Und manchmal ist das Holz hier dann auch noch so extrem hart, dass ich es gleich mit der Metallsäge versuche ... schont dann ja auch die richtige Säge 😁 Apropos Metallsäge: die ist auch meine erste Wahl wenn es darum geht, Gras zu sägen, also in meinem Fall natürlich Bambus. Mit der normalen Säge am Vic kann es nämlich vorkommen, dass die Schnittkanten ziemlich ausfransen, irgendwie hakt die Zahnung sich in den Fasern ein. Wenn ich aber die Metallsäge nehme, ist das Problem ziemlich reduziert bis ganz verschwunden ... LG, Robert

Another great video Mr. Immler. This is similar in concept to how Lonnie on F North Bushcraft and Survival cut down a tree with a knife when the tree was larger and diameter than the length of the knife blade.
