7 Minute AE Tutorials

Күн бұрын

Hey everybody and welcome back to another episode of 7 minute AE tutorials. Where you learn tips, tricks, and shortcuts in 7 minutes or less. No BS. Just AE.
In this episode, I'm going to show you how to animate multiple lines of text using just one layer. No alpha mattes, no solids, no shape layers, and no plug-ins - just one text layer, some keyframes, and a mask. And you can save this as a preset and bring it into any project with the click of a button.
I hope this helped you out. Please comment, like, share, and subscribe. I've included the project file in the description below, and I'd love to hear your feedback about this course and any other topic you'd like to see covered. Don't forget to be on the lookout for my Udemy course, THE POWER OF SHAPE LAYERS, coming very soon. I'll give you more information about this course in the coming weeks. Thanks for watching everybody, and I'll see you next time.

I always like to label my Text Animators. You can name them whatever you'd like. I've created animations with position, scale, rotation, and opacity text animators, so it's good practice to learn to label them from the beginning, even if it's just one or a few text animators. Again, this is my personal preference, so it's not necessary but, in my opinion, it's good practice to get into. I hope that helps.

@@7MinuteAETutorials thanks for the reply! but you might have misunderstood my question.. @ 1:18 - 1:32 what you did was duplicating the animator and working on the dupe one and not the original one.. why is that? why can't you just do it on the first one without duplicating it? thanks in advance!
@7MinuteAETutorials
@7MinuteAETutorials 3 жыл бұрын
@@SMKurama ah - I see what you mean. In order to get the animation using OFFSET, you need two text animators. Offset uses the values from both text animators and applies options like ramp up, ease high, and randomize. You can animate using one text animator but you are limited with what you can do sometimes. It depends on the animation. I like to use two animators because it allows you to have more control over start and end values with some animations. But you are right - you can use one text animator for some animations.

Hey! This is awesome and I really appreciate you making these tutorials but i'm a bit stuck on this one. I followed along and everything is working smoothly, but in my animation I don't want there to be a pause between each text cycle. I was the second text to come in as the first text is going out. Any idea how I can get this to work? I tried moving the key frames around but that breaks the animation. Thanks!
@7MinuteAETutorials
@7MinuteAETutorials 3 жыл бұрын
Since all the text is on one layer, I think the best solution is to duplicate the text layer so you'll have a second one with the same animation style. Then you can offset the second animation to come in as the first is animating off. Does that make sense? Even though this tutorial is about how to use one text layer for multiple text animations, you can really only have one section of text animating at a time since all the text is using the same text source (using hold keyframes to change the text values). Having the second layer of text I think is the way to go. So, instead of having one layer, you'd have two. I hope that helps.

@@7MinuteAETutorials That helps a ton, thank you. However, this brings me to my next issue which is I have a shape layer auto sizing to the text as it animates. Having 2 text layers will probably break the expressions, right unless I duplicate the rectangle path within the shape layer?

For position 1 you used "ramp up" and the text moved up. When going to position 3 you used "ramp down," yet the text moved up, the same as from position 1 to position 2. How does that make any sense? Very confusing.

@@7MinuteAETutorials U showed me how to save the effects which is a big deal with me. Will you make a video showing us how to save and reuse our effects?
@7MinuteAETutorials
@7MinuteAETutorials 3 жыл бұрын
@@pictureusfamily I've gone over it a few times but haven't really focused on it. My next tutorial will include saving and reusing saved presets. In short, all you have to do in order to reuse saved presets is go to you EFFECTS AND PRESETS panel, find the saved preset, and double-click it. If it's a saved shape layer, a new shape layer with the presets will populate in the timeline. If it's just a saved animation, you may need to have the layer selected before you double-click. Let me know if that helps. Whether it brings in a solid or shape layer with the presets depends on how it was saved. Most effects need a layer selected. However, all shape layer presets should bring in a shape layer for you.

Steven Matthews make sure you’re moving the Offset for the second position controller. The first Position sets it in place. The second one moves it to the first. Let me know if that helps.

how to animate from left to write. Like Arabic text
@7MinuteAETutorials
@7MinuteAETutorials 3 жыл бұрын
This is a round-about way: 1. Type your type 2.Right-click on your text layer, and choose TRANSFORM/FLIP HORIZONTAL. 3. Under 'TEXT' add "enable per character 3D" using the Text. Animator ANIMATE button 4. Using the settings under "Animator", change the Y Rotation to 180 degrees Now your text will read right-to-left and the characters will face the correct direction
