This rifle built on a Remington Model 700 action shot really well. It tended to do really well with all the loads we developed. As we got closer to the maximum loads, the groups really tightened.
For more loads not shown in this video, please check out LoadData.com.
***Editors Note: The Barrel length was incorrectly stated at 24" the actual length is 26". Please keep this in mind when reviewing the velocities. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The rifle performed better I think than most people realize. Allot different weight bullets and different powders. The big one for me is the different depth to the lands. Really good load development. That was allot of searching I know.

Thank you for the kind words and taking the time to watch and comment! We did a fair amount of load development with this rifle, I usually state how many round in the video for testing. To be honest I did not tinker any more than I usually do I just have a lot of experience with this cartridge so I have a good idea of where the bullets should be seated based on case fill and distance to the lands depending upon Ogive design. The rifle did seem to take to the loads quite well. We try to show what works and exactly what we did to get those results. There are many combinations that don't work we want to show you what does work and make it repeatable as possible for the viewer. Thanks again for watching, we hope you enjoy our other videos as much as this one. --Jeremiah

The 7mm Rem Mag is by far the most versatile cartridge. It is one that I recommend to people when they come to me and ask my opinion of the best cartridge. It's easy to load for and factory ammo is usually available. Jeremiah thanks for all your work. Really enjoy the channel.

I love watching these videos since, as I’ve said in your other videos, your presentation style is easy going but to the point. I think the 7MM Rem Mag is in the top three cartridges for North America with the 30-06 and 300 WM/WSM being the others. My hunting buddies and I just had an early morning range session and I was shooting my 7MM Remington Mag, a Savage Weather Warrior that shoots 3/4” groups with 160 partitions at 2965 and 5/8” groups with 160 Accubonds at 3005 which was today’s load of choice. Hopefully a nice mulie buck will find its way into my crosshairs in November.

You certainly are a regular here at the channel and we greatly appreciate that! I agree it's a great cartridge and you really can't go wrong choosing it for hunting anything in North America. Jack O'Connor did it with the .270 Win, it certainly can be done with the 7mm Rem Mag and you get a little flatter shooting cartridge. That sounds like solid shooters to me! I wish I drew a tag this year! I am dying to get out into the woods! Best of luck to you this year and have a great hunt! As always thank you for all the support! --Jeremiah

I just discovered your channel via YT suggesting your channel that never surfaced on a reloading search. The ballistics numbers are outstanding for this caliber. I will search your videos for my preferred high performance caliber … .340 Weatherby Magnum. I would have cautious belief the process is the same for the 340; but with different specs from a good reloading book. Very interested in reloading but have never started. Therefore, I enjoy the videos greatly. Very good video presentation.

That is great, we are glad that you found us, that is our biggest challenge is spreading the word that we are here! I can't complain though we have a great group of subscribers and are happy to have you join! Indeed I was very impressed with it's performance overall! We have yet to cover the .340 Weatherby magnum sadly! I do plan on covering it at some point but I do not currently have one so that will be in the distant future. If you have the same dies though the reloading process would be very similar for sure if you have any questions about it feel free to ask, we are always happy to help! If you are new to reloading I would suggest watching out how to video or even checking out some of the other videos to see how we developed loads for those. The technique does not change much but this one was using a much more complicated die set than what you need to get started. Glad to hear that you enjoy our videos! I also have a Remington and it loves loads up on the hot side. H1000 powder. Same scope. 150 to 162 grain bullets. I also found the same as you. 665 yards in Montana winter. 150 grain federal fusion bullet. 5 out of 5 shots on a metal plate 14" high by 8" wide. Got a group of 5 shots less than a 4" spread. I couldn't believe it. 162 grain bt hornadys also did amazing with just over a 4" spread on 5 shots. 665 yards. No muzzle break but I didn't have an issue with recoil until we got up to the heavier bullets but my rifle doesn't like them.

This rifle was the same way it liked hot loads, almost all of the loads we tested performed best at or near max. We actually took the best load from this video and our 28 Nosler load development video and we shot them out to 600 Yards on steel and I was quite impressed with the results the rifle is quite capable and the loads performed well even at distance. I don't think recoil on the 7mm Rem Mag is that bad but the brake is nice when shooting hundreds of rounds in 1 day. But they are quite loud when used in the field! --Jeremiah

Factory barrels generally move quite a bit after they warm up. Usually after 3 shots you start to get wandering from barrel curve. That gun with a match barrel would be absolutely amazing. Keep in mind that it would be totally unnecessary for hunting, but a great comp gun.

The wording of the title caught my eye.....the rifle is built "ON" the 700 action. Can't believe how many times I see in print a rifle built "off" of a 700 or other action. Or, based "off" of a particular action. I have yet see a rifle built off of the action, usually the parts are installed "on" the action, not "off". You got it right. Oh, and the old 7 Rem Mag is a good round. It's the Rodney Dangerfield of rifle cartridges.....it never gets any respect.

I'm using a similar setup with a 24-in barrel 1 and 9 twist Remington but I went with hodgdon 7977 powder with 150 grain acupbond LR getting a .6-in group or better just under 3100 ft per second. Very clean powder too. I didn't bump the charge weight up to Max since I was getting that good of group. I didn't figure 70 ft per second. I moved to Wyoming, some 38 years ago , I was there 9 years. I arrived there with an old tired 30-06. Every other Hunter I encountered had a 7mm mag and they ALL hated the 30-06. I got really tired of it. So when I got the money together for a new rifle, I purchased a 300 win mag. That pretty much shut the 7 mag fanboys up.

I envy your groups with the Trophy Bonded bullet. My attempts with the original bear claw bullet never did provide that level of precision. However, I find Jack Carter's design to be so appealing that I will gladly take 1.5"groups and let the bullet do the rest. My personal shooting restrictions keep my shots inside 400 yards so I find that level of accuracy acceptable. These trade offs make for good campfire banter, I think.

Ah yes the good ol Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, I do believe I have a few of those still laying around somewhere on a back shelf. I must admit these Trophy bonded bullets were much easier to work up a load for than the original Bear Claw. I personally have yet to take an animal at more than 250 yards, and I have plenty of blown stalks to prove it! A really great video. 20 years ago I reloaded with a Lee loader press. I haven’t reloaded since but I want to. I inherited a rcbs auto, but I don’t feel comfortable with it. Your video was over my head and skills, but that is where I would like to be. I do have a 7mm that I have only shot factory loads and it hasn’t grouped well yet. I hope to find a load that this gun will like. I have been able to pick up powders and some primers. I think I have some nosler and some Barnes bullets. But not sure where to start. I think my first task would to just load a box of shells to get comfortable with my dies and the press. Any suggestions?
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words, they are always appreciated. I am assuming that the RCBS Pro 2000 or a similar progressive press. There are a lot to progressive presses and I highly suggest doing a lot of research before attempting to load on a progressive and just understand the basic function and what each station does and how to set it up properly and double and triple check your work before shooting any of the loaded ammo to ensure it will be safe and function well. That said I do like progressive presses and I use A dillon press for most of my bulk case prep and I use it to load multiple cartridges as well. We have a handloading 101 video as well I will paste a link below at the end of this comment and you can check that out as well. We are using a single stage press but the concept is the same and there is a lot of good info in the video. The progressive presses just do all these steps with each pull of the handle. I suggest finding some good data and starting with the "start" charge or minimum charge and working your way up in .5 grain increments close to max. Then go out and test them and see what kind of groups you can get. If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out. If you really want to learn more I highly suggest picking up the magazine as well. The basics you can learn from online research but there is a lot more covered in our magazine about crimp neck tension and so on and so fourth. You certainly want to be comfortable with the process and ensure you know enough to not get yourself into trouble before you start loading. Once you get it figured out though it will become second nature to you. --Jeremiah kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qrdmlMqSvd2UpHU.html Handloading 101 video.

A lot of people like to do load development at extended ranges 200 yards and further. I don't see any problem with that but I also like shooting at 100 because it is a nice baseline for the variety of cartridges we shoot here on the channel along with the fact that wind and other conditions are significantly less of a factor. Generally speaking a bad load at 100 is a bad load at 300 yards as well. I would encourage you to check out our latest video on the 7mm Rem mag Vs. the 28 Nosler we take the best load from this video and the 28 Nosler load development video and shoot them both on steel and compare ballistics. @@HandloaderTV You got my mind thinking. What I mean is, when I do my load development at 300 yards ( I use a Veridical test/ladder test ) to find out what powder and what powder charge my rifle likes best, I then go back to 100 yards and mess with seating depth and zero my rifle there as well. If you set a target out to say 300 yards. When I got my load data on my 260 Rem for instance. I used 140 grain Bullets. So I loaded as follows, 39.0, 39.5, grains, 40.0, 40.5, 41.0, 41.5, 42.0, 42.5, 43.0, 43.5, 44.0. I went up by half grain increments. So what I noticed at 300 yards was that 39.0 - 41.0 grains of powder hit low. 43.0 - 44.0 grains of powder hit high. Now my between my 41.5- 42.5 grains of powder the impacts were all most touching. So what that means is I found my node. I then loaded up 5 rounds each of 41.5, 42.0, 42.5. I then shot a 5 shot group of each at 100 yards and the 42.5 grains had the tightest group. So then I started messing with my seating depth. Now not only am I getting hole in hole at 100 yards, my rifle can hold under a 1” group at 700 yards. Not 1 MOA. I’m talking a straight up 1” 3 shot group at 700 yards. I do this with all my rifles. My 7 Mag Sendero with 168 grain Berger’s using this method can hold a 1 1/2 “ 3 shot group at 700 yards. That is all factory rifle, untrued action. Just how it came from Remington. Try a ladder test, it will make a Hugh difference.

@@stgraves260 That is really good to hear! That is what we are all about is getting folks thinking and providing as much information as we can in each of our videos! I personally think there are multiple way to find a good node and there really isn't a right or wrong way so long as you do find that node. There are a lot of incorrect way to find a node. I think most notable in that failure is the 10 Shot load development, based on personal experience there is no way 10 shots is enough to provide any statistical significance. Your method sounds very good and is fairly similar to what I do with my own load development but mine but I typically test at 100 yards again just to reduce the variables of wind and other things from day to day when we are filming. However as interest in this channel increases and we get more people viewing I would love to do an in depth video on various load development methods, the ones that work and the ones that don't. Perhaps at some point I can give your load development a try and do a video on that! You have got me thinking now!! I love it!! Thank you for sharing that with us and the other viewers! --Jeremiah

Great Video!! The only nock is that I think a belted magnum deserves at least a 26" barrel. I'm not worried about the extra lil' bit of weight. Performance is a bit more important to me. 30-06 or .308 is better suited for a 24" barrel. If you're worried about getting stuck on a branch with a little longer barrel, your not slung right, and if you're hunting game in thick brush, use a 20" 308. Too close to worry about velocity at such a short distance with the right bullet construction
@HandloaderTV

I personally prefer a 26 inch barrel for hunting purposes as well, I don't find it to be that cumbersome or add a significant amount of weight compared to a 22 inch barrel. In regards to the barrel length on this rifle I accidently stated it was 24 inches but if you check the video description there stating that was a mistake and the actual barrel length was 26" we apologize for this inconvenience. It was something we should have caught in post production and failed to do so! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! --Jeremiah

Late to the party but first time KZfaq referenced your channel. I'm busted up pretty bad and full of shrapnel. My body doesn't care for heavy recoil but I'm looking at 7mm Remington Magnum, 7 prc, 6.5 prc and the dark horse 6.8 Western, (components and factory ammo especially in my area for the 6.8). I have owned lot's of different cartridges with the exception of those listed. I handload for .223, .243 Winchester, 6.5 needmore and .308 Win. My thinking is maybe a trip for elk or bear sometime. I shoot the 6.5 creed and 308 to 1000 yards pretty regular and 1500 less often. If I were to make that trip I would like a little more getty-up and distance than the .308 Win. Out of those I mentioned, recoil, availability of reloading components and factory ammo in the decision, the 6.5 prc and 7mm Rem Mag with a good break or can seems to be best choice. From a factory rifle which would be your choice? Here in the Bluegrass state the .243 is very versatile as is the 308 and 6.5 creed. So this would be a lighter weight setup most likely.
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV Күн бұрын
It is hard to go wrong with a 7mm Rem Mag or 7mm PRC for Elk, the 6.8 should be more than capable as well and if you have access to the components you shouldn't have a problem with that either with the right bullet at the right range. 6.5 PRC is capable as well but it would likely be last on my personal recommendations for elk of the cartridges you listed. I agree with a good muzzle brake you can get the recoil of 7mm Rem Mag down to that of a 6.5 Creedmoor. As for a rifle recommendation that is a tough one Tikka is popular, Bergara is another good choice, the Winchester Model 70 is a classic and they are slick actions these days. If I had to choose personally and not go the custom route I would probably pick a Tikka or Winchester Model 70 if money was no objection. Then I would shoot the heck out of it and know what it is truly capable of. That would be my best suggestion. Whatever you pick practice with it, know your cone of fire and maximum effective range with a little margin for error added in. If you are really concerned about weight of the rifle the Howa Carbon Elevate may be a great option with a large brake added to offset the added recoil from a light rifle or a really good suppressor but it sill won't be quite as effective as a brake. Great question thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

Great job sir! I thought about getting the 7mm Remington Magnum for my last rifle purchase but not many are made with a barrel twist fast enough to shoot the heavy bullets. I chose the 28 Nosler and loving it. With 79.6gr of N570, the Berger 195 EOL I’m getting 3003 FPS, ES 16 FPS out of the Bergara Ridgeback with a 26” barrel 1 in 9 twist. During load development had to shoot 3 round groups because of lack of LG rifle primers. Shot only one 5 round group after choosing the powder charge and got a 0.402” group. This week is one more test with 24N41, shot 3 rounds, 85.2gr of 24N41 during the N570 testing and had great velocity but a higher ES. Both the 190gr A-Tip and the 197gr SMK also shot excellent out of the Bergara but Berger is made here in Arizona. What part of Arizona are you? I’m in Cochise county, Huachuca City area.

@@davidedwards8940 The recoil I don’t notice at all, it doesn’t seem to kick much more than my Bergara HMR Pro in 6.5 Creedmoor However the 6.5 rifle weighs 16.5 lbs and the 28 Nosler weighs 19.4. The barrel life is something I will learn in the future although as I hear it’s not long. What I’ve been doing is not allowing the barrel to get very hot by putting a chamber chiller in the chamber for a minute or two after a couple shots. Then when it gets to warm to hold my hand on it very long I let it cool. Shooting a hot barrel supposedly wears the throat much faster. While the 28’s barrel is cooling I shoot a different rifle or handgun to maximize the range days. When this barrel is shot out I’ll put another one on, the 28 Nosler is an excellent ELR caliber, far better than the 6.5.

@@corymcleod2728 and @David Edwards I am a bit biased when it comes to recoil but I actually have a 6 lb rifle chambered in 28 Nosler and the recoil is pretty significant without the brake, with a muzzle brake I don't have any problems shooting it all day and I did for an upcoming video comparing the 28 Nosler vs. the 7mm Rem mag. Barrel heat is certainly a contributing factor to barrel wear. I think the primary problem with the 28 Nosler is throat erosion, the case holds a lot of powder and it's a very high pressure cartridge. So it does wear out a throat quicker than most other cartridges. I agree though the 28 Nosler is an excellent ELR caliber and an outstanding hunting cartridge as well. I will start with the fact that a magnum shows very little deviation in group size at 100m. You must do group at 200m to accurately show group sizes. Depending on the temperature at the time of shooting, generally you cannot shoot more than two or three rounds without letting the barrel cool. Evan New Zealand
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV 2 жыл бұрын
I have heard that stated and I think that there is some truth to that to a degree but I don't think it invalidates testing conducted at 100 Yards in any way. A bad load at 100 yards is going be a bad load at 200 Yards. We do perform extensive testing to validate these loads before we show them off. I would encourage you to watch out 7mm Rem mag Vs. 28 Nosler video and see the best load we worked up here at 100 yards and see it shoot out to 600 yards in the same rifle. I will paste the link at the end of this comment. You can see that the best load does indeed perform very well with an impressive group at 600 yards. As far as the barrel heat goes that is true but it is also a good way to measure a barrels quality. We generally shoot 5 shots and let the barrel cool in between 5 shot groups keeping all things equal that way. I have had some barrels that will throw shots after 3 round you can see this when we shoot the 145 grain Barnes LRX I am sure barrel heat was a major factor in opening up that group size. That said the group was still not that bad. We strive to provide unbiased practical testing that is as comparable as possible from rifle to rifle. I have a couple questions, why not use a bore chiller between shots to try and get best accuracy, since in hunting most shots are cold bore, also are you going to take each load and play with powder and jump to dial it in? I have been reloading since late 80s and personally love 7mm
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV 2 жыл бұрын
Those are both great questions and I am very glad you asked! I do not use a bore chiller for a couple of reasons, #1 I don't have one currently, #2 it's nice to know what the rifle barrel is going to do as it gets hot and we did see some of that with the loads we shot using the Barnes LRX the first 3 shots go into one hole and the next two open up the group a bit. I think it gives you a better idea of the quality of the barrel and what it's going to do when hot. That said though for hunting I absolutely check my cold bore shots to see if the rifle is going to put that cold bore shot in a different area. I have found with most quality barrels there is little or no point of impact shift from the cold bore to the 5th shot. In regards to your second question we actually do adjust powder charges and seating depths this is roughly stated at 21:10 in the video where you can actually go on to our load data website and see all the different loads that we tried through this rifle. Generally speaking we do 5 different powder charges per bullet and then 5 different seating depth tests as well and then we settle on the seating depth that performed the best for us. I hope that all makes sense great questions and thank you so much for watching and commenting! --Jeremiah

So that is a two fold answer we are working on a big stockpile we had and are limiting ourselves to conserve as much as possible which is also why we are not producing as many videos as we like. As of lately we have been able to source limited quantities locally as well, many of our local gunshops carry reloading components and powder. Which is why we were able to add a few more powders to our testing Hodgdon powder seems to be coming in regularly however it does go quick and still no primers. It is not easy to find stuff that is for sure but I am still hopeful that things are getting better and after one dumpster fire of a year things are finally getting back on track. I know the demand is insanely high and that has more to do with it than most people think but I don't know a single Handloader that is not looking for primers or powder or something. It sounds like you should be able to duplicate many of our results should you desire, We got some pretty good groups and more on our load data website. Ballistic labs have long noted strange and unexplained pressure spikes when dealing with maximum loads in the 7mm Rem Mag. That's why the original ballistic performance of the 1960's ammo has been scaled back starting in the 1970's. The .243 Win was also discovered to produce a similar trait with max loads and 100-105 gr. bullets.
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV 3 жыл бұрын
Julius James and 451 Whitworth, That is very true ballistic labs and pressure tests have shown that the 7mm Rem mag can have fairly wide velocity and pressure swings in particular from one rifle or barrel to the next. SAAMI maximum pressure is at 61,000 PSI which is up there when it comes to pressure in my opinion. However if you look at a lot of old data sources in particular the Speer reloading manuals I do believe many of them don't go over 52,000 PSI. And if I remember correctly SAAMI raised the pressure levels for the 7MM Rem mag but do not quote me on that. I do know some of the older data was pretty conservative. With Modern rifles loading to 61,000 PSI is not a problem. However, I will say be careful, look at the data we shot out of this rifle and compare it with others in particular the Barnes load data and you will see that we hit pressure well below the max charge weight but the velocity was already at or near max. This is a good example of the velocity variation from rifle to rifle. Thank you both for watching and starting a very interesting conversation. I love how others can learn and share experiences here in the comments. Thanks again and good shooting to both of you!

We do let the barrel cool between 5 shot strings but we like to show if heat is effecting the group size as well. It can be a good judge of how well the barrel was heat treated and stress relieved during the manufacturing process. You can watch for yourself and see I am sure many group sizes would be smaller if we did let the barrel cool but then that wouldn't be a very good measure of the quality of the barrel or how profile can effect your results. In addition to that it would be very time consuming to let the barrel cool after a shot or two, on average our range sessions for videos are about 12 hours long for rifle and consist of shooting hundreds of rounds numerous different loads, sadly we have to cut most of those for the video but all results are available to view on our load data website. My 7rm won’t group bullets above 150gr (factory loads). If I want to shoot a heavier bullet would reloading my own be necessary or does the gun just not like heavy bullets?
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV 9 ай бұрын
It depends to be honest, that is a great question it very well could be that it just doesn't like that particular factory load if it does it with multiple I would suggest measuring your twist rate. This can easily be done with a cleaning rod and a tightly fitting patch, the cleaning rod must be marked and you measure one revolution of the cleaning rod and measure how many inches it took for that single revolution. There are details on how to do this on the internet and it's a relatively simple process. Generally speaking 7mm Rem mag rifles will be 1:10 twist or faster. Which should stabilize heavier bullets without an issue at least up to 175ish grains. Handloading certainly opens up your options when it comes to bullets and it will improve your consistency and accuracy as well. Great question thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! --Jeremiah

@@gregdenton5282 Hmmm, that should have no problem stabilizing either of those bullets with that twist rate. I would say try a few different brands of ammunition otherwise you may have to handload in order to get those bullets to shoot good. Howa generally makes good rifles and I have had great success with them over the years. I have a 6.5 Grendel that I am working on right now for a load development video. Generally speaking Hornady makes good ammo as well I'm surprised you couldn't get a good group out of the gun with that ammo but every gun is different and handloading certainly showcases that. Question, was this a “brand “ new rifle. In your comments you stated that factory ammo had been shot through the rifle. I assume you did some sort of either cleaning and/or barrel break in throughout the day or two of testing? Also, what is your standard cleaning process over a 100 or 200 shot development? I would comment that to get your headspace in the beginning you achieved that measurement by using a fired case, presumably from Factory ammo? Was it Norma ammo? You just kind of jumped to the measurement, but didn’t necessarily explain how you got that. Again, there are new handloaders that would benefit from the small details. I currently have a subscription to handloads online, and have used it to begin my load development and want to thank you, as the info has helped me get straight to the bullet / powder combo I am looking to use, as not all books have enough data to overlap for particular bullet/powder combos, so thank you.
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, It is not a new rifle, It has also had some work done to it as stated in the video. lot's of factory ammo had been fired through it of various manufacturers and it had about 150ish rounds through the barrel at the time of this filming. The barrel was cleaned as usual prior to any filming and 5 fouling shots were fired before we began load development. The brass we used was brand new unfired Norma cases. We do our best to start fresh with each load development series. As far as the measurement I am not sure what measurement you are referring to as we showed and took quite a few and detailed all of them in the handloading segment which starts at 4:40 in the video. If you are referring to OAL then I mention that in the handloading portion and I say some were loaded to book length and at 21:13 I state that we were not able to show all the loads we tested however you can find them on our Loaddata website and there you can see all the different loads we tested including the various different cartridge lengths that were tested. Perhaps moving forward we should be a little more clear on those things. I do think there are a lot of new handloaders out there that need as much information as possible. I want to personally thank you for taking the time to watch and comment the feedback is always appreciated. I also want to thank you for your continued support of what we do here with your digital subscription to the magazine. The spreads say you need to add more powder. Did you even measure the case heads with a 1" micrometer to check for pressure? You are a reloader more so than a handloader.
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV 4 ай бұрын
Adding powder is not always the solution to the problem, as stated in the video many of these loads were at or near maximum charge weight and increasing the charge weight would have put us over pressure. Velocity is the most reliable way to measure/gauge pressure. Measuring case head expansion is unreliable especially if using already fired cases. Perhaps more seating depth testing would have revealed better groups but we also want to keep our comparisons from rifle to rifle fair and these are the results we got with the time we had and ammunition we normally expend during testing. We strive to provide the most accurate and reliable information possible with the results being easily duplicated by the viewer. --Jeremiah

Letting your brass roll off the table into the rocks isn't the best for reloading those later. It would have been interesting to have another shooter do the same loads and see the overall performance. Every rifle has a specific recipe for bullet reloading and there is a lot more than powder and measurement of such. When one switches bullets, this opens up a whole load of specifics that has to be accomodated. Max charge doesn't mean most accurate.
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV Жыл бұрын
If the 3 feet drop from the table to dirt and rocks is effecting my accuracy I shudder at what the UPS guy does to it when he chucks the package onto the porch or what bouncy dirt roads do to the brass while packed loose in bags. I highly highly doubt the drop off the table is making a difference in accuracy especially after being resized properly. It would have to be a large enough sample size to be statistically significant in order to really see a difference though. No max charge does not mean the most accurate in fact often times the opposite seems to be true in my experience. We like to test different loads, different bullets and sometimes even seating depths though. Usually what you see here in video is just a small sample of everything we tested. We do this for times sake otherwise the video would be 4 hours long. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

How should I start off with this comment? Ok, to begin, you have to read my long diatirbe if you want to categorize it as such.I am now at the ripe old age of 81,(age 15 was my first introduction to a mans' world of hunting. Killed my first deer in NEPA with a 30 WCF..1 shot kill) still shooting, rifle, pistol competition. I manage to hold my own. That said, the video has it's high points and has some impressive results. Oh, I own, and shoot a 454 Casull. So I am not adverse to brute force and horsepower. Nuf of the personality stuff. Not to disparage the video or the fellow doing the video...far be it for me to do that. to get to my point. My first introduction to "big game" was in 1980. A friend invited me to a hunt in Montana, an elk hunt. I jumped at the opportunity. What shall I bring, I said? I listed what I had to shoot to him...all ok ,but do you have or can you get a 7MM? I answered no, but should I get one? He replied, if you can borrow one, or afford to buy one, get one, cause that's the caliber of choice. I went to our local dept store. (at that time, you could walk into a Walmart;Two-guys;GovMutual) store) Not being a "big time" hunter", I had a choice of buying a .270 or a 7MM for the same price at the whopping figure of $150 each! I should have bought them both! But, I chose the 7MM due to monetary restraints. I purchased the Ruger 77 in 7MM. To make a very long short shorter than you care to read, I used to...still do, participated in long-range competition to a lesser degree. Getting to my point. I equipped my 7 with a Redfield BDL accu-tac scope 3x9. I handloaded and shot the 7MM out TO 500 METERS. Getting the results I felt comfortable with, I flew up to Montana. Cutting to the chase, we hiked for several days whiteout success. On my last othe next day, e spotted a "brushhead"..Montana verbiage for a small bull. Having no other choice come back to SoCal empty-handed, I shot....missed! He said, my friend, said he's about 450 yds. I adjusted my scope.( missed calculated the yardage...18 in vs 30 in in the scope). I raised the elevation to max which was 650 yds. As the bull was walking uphill, I kept raising above and aimed above the antlers. "One shot kill below the shoulder bones"!!! The moral of the story? Luck, perhaps. Bullet placement. Perhaps. Ability. Perhaps. In the final analysis, I did it. My first elk hunt and killed my first big-game animal. I'll tell you this. Hiking the mountains of Montana is no easy chore. You all ask, ok, ok, wondering what load you were using? To answer that with some sort of timeline. I was an armature reloader. I stated off making cast lead bullets. circa 1970. I progressed to rifle. I did not know anything about ballistics...bullet drop; VDL. I just shot to enjoy shooting n hunting. I was told....Sierra Bullets are what you want to shoot. Ok, I know I am getting long- in -the tooth so to speak, Here it is my load: Sierra seconds, not a misprint. Sierra 2nds: 160 gr SP. 68.0 grains IMR 4350, CCIM primer. The 7MM cam kill at most distance with any kind of bullet if hit in the vital area. What else can I say? I have the friend to verify my statements. ENOUGH ALREADY1 I've already expressed my thoughts and feelings on another 7MM post.

I would argue that there is more interest in Handloading now then ever. However, I do agree that getting components is extremely difficult these days. They are being produced however the manufacturers are simply not able to keep up with demand. Sadly we have seen this happen many times in the past. There will be shortages of ammunition and everyone rushes to handloading and making their own ammo and the amount of handloaders soars along with interest in the hobby. Due to the ammo shortage manufacturers focus on making their own ammo instead of selling components and therefore making it very difficult to handload. Eventually they catch up and components become available again but sadly we are not there yet. I keep hoping that happens soon. I am sure hoarding and resellers are a small contributing factor to the shortages as well. Add in the current supply chain issues and it makes for the worst shortage we have experienced yet. I am even having difficulties getting conventional motor oil locally!! It is just ridiculous and the shortages bring a level of difficulty to what we do but we will continue on as long as folks are interested.
