Elvis Presley died on the 16th August 1977 in Memphis, Tennessee, yet his legend lives on.
His spectacular life and tragic death have been the subject of countless books and movies, but there's only one person who really knew him - his ex-wife Priscilla. She met him when she was 14, and remained his closest friend through to the bitter end.
When Mike Amor sat down with Priscilla Presley for an exclusive interview, he found at last she's ready to tell some of the untold stories of the man behind that legend.

My grandma owned a small restaurant in South Carolina. It was the late 60s and, as a black woman, she experienced a taste of racism but still held strong and ran her business beautifully. Elvis happened to travel through and he actually stopped by her restaurant to eat her food, which spoke volumes due to the social climate at the time. Her eyes still light up when telling me the story - she really appreciated his kindness. It was refreshing for her.

He expected both and, I believe, he was a sex addict way before he met Priscilla. It's a tragic love story and I blame a lot on the goons he constantly surrounded himself with as they encouraged him for their own selfish wants. Am glad Priscilla had the strength to walk away and remain friends. Also glad he passed when he did.

I think Elvis was such a tragic story. Not because he died relatively young, but because he lost so much of himself after he became that famous. You'll notice when he was younger, he was extremely shy and sweet and...innocent. He was a mama's boy. I think he started to lose himself when his mother died. I don't think it was, deep down, the fame that was his undoing. If his mom had still been around, I think he would have held fast against all the pitfalls of fame.

All those people around him saying "you have to do this, or you have to do that", and there was no one else around him that could really back him up or advise him and say that you have to love the ones that you are with. @@suzannepoisson5792 I agree 100% Col.Parker didn't give a Damn about Elvis. He used him like a special attraction at a circus. Milk him for every dollar possible, no matter what Elvis wanted in his career. Movie script's were terrible, they weren't challenging to him.. He got bored. But he was locked into contracts..by the col. Because no matter how cheesy they were..they made money. Thought the 60's New movie sound tracks to sell.. The songs he was given to record in the 70's were mediocre because Col. Parker demanded copyrights to anything Elvis sung. If your a songwriter in new York..Nashville. That's your living.it's an honor to have Elvis be interested in your song but how can you give away publishing rights? Elvis I don't don't believe ever got satisfied. Fulfilled his movie contracts in 69.. Then locked into concerts in Vegas..which was great he made headlines.. Biggest star in down..who are you going to go see in Vegas.. Righteous brothers. Tom Jones..sonny & Cher. Or Elvis Presley? But same routine every night. I'm sure that got boring too. I see why he into the moods he was legendary for..poor guy was bored out if his mind and didn't feel he had a choice. All that talent.. All the possibilities.. Imagine how much bigger and better he could if gotten with age in the 80's-90's but he got bored with his life he felt trapped and squandered it all away with pills until his body couldn't take it anymore and the root of the problem I'll always believe it's Colonel Tom Parker

I was camping in the redwood forest with my soon to be husband. we were walking along one of the camping roads with all sorts of trailors, campers ect and all of a sudden it became deadly quiet. I swear not even the birds were singing. We asked the nearest people to us if something happened and they said" Elvis died" We were gobsmacked. We were lucky to see him just the year before in Portland I believe. We had booked a couch tour from Vancouver Canada(5 greyhound buses) for the weekend. I guess the promoters sold too many tickets so Elvis did another show at a small university theater. Well since he were on a bus tour they delegates us to this small theater. At first many of us were dismayed until we entered this small auditorium. Just WOW, talk about close up and personal. What a performance he put on, amazing doesn't begin to cover it. Best weekend party of my life.

I loooooovvvvvvvve Elvis. Been obsessed since childhood. Don't know why. My Grandma told me that she would to get in trouble as child for staying up late to watch Elvis. 👑 The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I was born in 1970 , I was brought up with Elvis, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder ect; I loved every movie and every song he ever stared in and sang. I broke the news to my parents in 1977 when I collected the daily newspaper, I was only 7 myself and I remember being in shock and thinking’ my poor Mam, (she always told us kids , she only married Dad because he had a look of Elvis. He totally did, they both met in the 60’s when they both served in the Royal Navy. Mam was 19, Dad was 18. They married very quickly and had 4 daughters. I also joined the Royal Navy at 24. My youngest daughter was born 2000, and I played every Elvis song and she would love watching Elvis in concert and his movies. When I joined my first ship in 1994, all the girls in my mess deck knew how much I loved Elvis: Then on my 25th birthday, they, and other crew members held a party for me; we played Elvis songs all night, and a couple of guys made a cardboard guitar, put masking tape for sideburns, man my shipmates went all out. I will forever love every single person who went out of their way (I’m so emotional now) to embrace my love of Elvis. I also believe I brought a little bit of Elvis to them too. Shipmates for live, the best memories ever. Thank you H.M.S Manchester. ❤️👏👏
