i have always looked at iron warriors as Guard in power armour. with all the combined arms and war of attrition and without all the typical spacemarine brovado

I just started my 40k IW and I'm super excited! I feel the same way you do about Perturabo. I read Angel Exterminatus and just developed such a devotion to the Legion. I played Blood Angels in 2nd and 3rd edition and was very pleased to find another Primarch I identified with. Like the IW, I do my fair share of dirty work at my job, often with little or no credit, so it's easy for me to see how the IW are the way they are. When I think about the lore, (thank you so much for not saying "fluff") I am reminded of Iron Man by Black Sabbath. There is a common theme to the IW, of being unwanted, underestimated and forgotten; how that inspires tremendous rage. Thanks for posting!

I couldn't agree more, Iron Warriors is the best legion in Warhammer. To me at least. I play them in 40K and they're my favorite army with Death Guard being a very close 2nd. While it's extremely unlikely, I would absolutely love it if GW released an Iron Warriors codex, complete with a non-Forgeworld Perturabo model and some nice Iron Warriors exclusive tanks that normally wouldn't be a part of the Chaos Legion. I mean really, tell me Perturabo wouldn't have a few Baneblades stockpiled in his fortress world, just in case they're needed.

I feel the same way you do. A buddy of mine bought me a squad of Chaos Marines in 1997 and I think I painted about 4 of them as IW. Then in 2020, I was listening to Angel Exterminatus again and just said to myself: "we're doing this!" I cannot wait till the new 40k codex comes out. I'm gonna be ready with 2 Forgefiends and a badass Lord in Terminator armor that came out perfect for who he's supposed to be. I love the expression on the guy's face. Almost reminds me of how Vader looks with his pale face with his mask off.

These guys eat tanks, Titans and Astartes for breakfast. I play my 30K army using the community 8th Ed rules against 40K armies, and its soo much fun seeing other players faces when Iron Havoks tear through their big expensive tanks, models and puny troops. Just getting myself psyched up for new 30k. I too love the Iron Warriors. They were my first army back in 40k 3rd Edition with their 4 heavy support and basilisk. My idea for Heresy 2.0 is to recreate that army, but imagining it’s the same warriors during the time of the heresy. Got my MKIIIs ready and can’t wait for the new plastic vehicles!

I personally prefer Angron. Even in case of Bodyguards, his Legion gave him Bodyguards (Devourers I think) and Angron hated them the most. He basically told them to get lost everytime they gathered around him to protect him and I think he even killed one of them, because he didn't want to let Angron fight. That is badass, although I love the look of the Iron Circle. Angron is just the most tragic of Primarchs with the most beautiful story. None of the Primarchs got as screwed by the Emperor as Angron did.

Ahh iron warriors, my first chaos army and still one of my faves. Still adore them, but i could say i love many legions / chapters / warbands. Top 5 (no set order) - iron warriors - world eaters - emperors children - crimson sabers - iron hands

I like the Iron Warriors because their fit the Background i intended to give to my loyalist Astartes Chapter so i wanted to make a Chapter of Iron Warriors who turned on Perturabo after he decided to ascend to Demonhood. The mainthing about my Chapter is their utilization of Infanterie on mass which just Works because they recruit everyone where the Geneseed fits and harvest it back for every recruit who fails later down the line. In addition to even increase their Geneseed stockpile even further my Chapter utilize Decimation. So every now and then they choose Brothers who will commit suicid so that the Second Progeniod gland in its chest can also be harvested and given to a new Neophyte so that he creates two new Progenoid glands in its Chest and Neck.

I've just recently looked into Iron Warriors and am looking to make a 40k army. Are they viable in 40k? I think they could be super fun and I love the lore to them.

I don't have a Spartan in my 6.5k of Raven guard. But I do have 5 flyers.

Robute guilliman: pragmatic. Jahagatai Khan: djengis Khan in space, on something that goes fast as fuck. Alpharius and Omegon: twin brothers, infiltrerating and mysterius, more flexibel then Ultramarines and have cool terminators ( catathractii armor with scales on it, fucking dope). Iron hands: cyborgs space marines.

I must admit I hated the Iron Warriors because they were everyone's Chaos arm in 3rd editon because they got a 4th Heavy Support and could take Basilisks. They seemed boring and overplayed. Until I read Angel Exterminatus and I fell in love with the Iron Warriors. We finally got to see Perturabo as something other than a whiner and saw what he wanted to do instead of building fortifications or siege trenches. He wanted to construct the beautiful public buildings he designed on Olympia and did not get to make before the Emperor's arrival. Iron Warriors is the Chaos army I built and painted. It will be my 30K army once I get the new plastics in my hands. I also like and will build small forces for the Rout and Salamanders, but Iron Warriors will be my go-to Legion for 30K.

I play 40k IW, but I'm curious: what's Perturabo do in 30k? What's he good/bad at, why do you bring him rules wise? I just watched a sit and talk and heard Kurze, Corax, but mostly Russ are the best Primarch killers. What about Bo?

So I've been debating on a iron warriors army... is it worth? I would buy the start collecting chaos and two packs of the upgrade spruces (since I think they are only 5) but I dont want to invest $100 on a faction that isnt good. (I've read csm are in a bad place) also want to hold out for chaos primaris (might as well) but I dont think its anytime soon.

Your assement of perturabo is incorrect and probably largely based on his tryant sister’s rant. In the lore they are always described as having burnish plate. So shiney is ok. No need to defend that. Perturabo’s mistake was he didn’t care how he won. Just that he did it. That is why dorn burried many of his victories. He lacked heart and was a huge socialist, believing people to be little more than drones. Still he was a fascinating guy!
