I wrote a program called Gps2video that creates the overlay, but it is a multi-step process. Here is a high level of the steps I use. It is not quick and easy but does get the job done. 1. Use ffmpeg to combine all the mp4 video files into one, and pull out the GPS stream to a seperate file. The file will be in binary format. 2. Use this library to convert the binary GPS data to text format. github.com/JuanIrache/gopro-utils. This requires installation of the "Go" runtime and compiler. 3. The GPS data straight out of the GoPro is not always very clean and can have erratic and duplicate data points that what you need, so I wrote a program to clean up the data called CleanGPS. 4. I use Google Earth Pro to get a Google satellite map from the GPS text file. One with the trail and one without. 5. I use a program I wrote called Gps2video to design the overlay and create each individual frame for the overlay video. 6. I use ffmpeg to create the video from the individual frames. 7. I use Hit Film Express to combine the overlay, map, and original GoPro video into the final video. Steps 1, 2 and maybe 3 might be replaced with a program called ExifTool, but I have not done the research for it to know for sure. All the programs are free except I did have to pay about $20 to unlock some of the features of the Hit Film Express program. If you would like more detail of the process or a copy of the programs I have written, I can provide them. However, I would have to take some time to spruce up the user interface for Gps2video before I would distribute it.

wow thats alot more complex than i thought it would be. i never understood why you had to use third party software to extract gps info from a gopro seems like they would put that ability in their editing tool. that all seems a bit out of my league. i can do basic edits but never done anything to fancy.

@@bricketts656 I agree. I found info about GoPro software that would do it, but when it came right down to it I can never find anything that was current that actually worked. I don't understand why it is not something readily available.

I have been able to figure out how to use ExifTool to pull the GPS information, so this eliminates at least 2 of the more complicated steps. I still plan on working on making this process easy with the program I am writing. I will probably work on it over the fall/winter and make it available.

They forecast some rain for the event, but I was hoping it would be dry. The conditions looked perfect when I arrived, but a bit later it poured down rain for about 15 minutes. I should have let some air out of my front tire to help with traction, but for some reason did not think about it. The front tire sliding is what messed me up after the start. I'm glad you liked the GPS track map, it is something I have just started trying out. I think the Stark would have done well and I probably would not have had to stop to change the battery since it has a larger battery. I heard about the TKO. Extreme riding is not really my thing anymore, but it might have been fun to try it. The track conditions dried out and got better as the race went on, that is why I was going faster on lap 3. The rut I got stuck in did not look that deep, and I had taken that line the lap before with no trouble. Obviously it was a bad choice. :-( I was not on guard for mudholes that race since there were not many on the track. I would not expect racers to help me out, they are concentrating on their own race. The track crew got me out. I had between 50%-30% left on the battery when I finished the race, so I had plenty of power left on that 2nd battery. I was stuck in the mud hole a long time. Not sure how long, but that lap time was about 25 minutes longer than the others, so that was likely how long I was there.
