sadly i think chicory does not agree with me! i had mild to severed stomach & intestinal issues after drinking 3 large servings!
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 жыл бұрын
@@tomiakanana3779 It may be because chicory is a prebiotic - your gut microbiota loves it as food and this can cause intestinal discomfort as a result, especially if you are having large servings of it. If you still want to drink it I'd start with a small serving and see how you do and work your way up. (Incidentally, this can also happen with coconut products, especially coconut flour and meat (like flakes) so if you're finding the same with those, probably the same reason)

I realy enjoy mugwort latte. You get the dark green powder in asia markets. It might be called yomogi, it has quite a few names. The taxonomic name is artemisia princeps. I fare well with it, but if you have to be careful, better look it up

@@MicheleSpring it is a commen flavor for corean sweets and is used in the traditional chines spring festival/remembrance of the dead dish, a avory filled rice dumpling, Qingtuang I think it was called. In japan they have a sweet variation called yomogi mochi or kusa mochi. The herb is a bit bitter and smells very fragrant.

Dear Michel, thanks for all the great information you provide here. I’m new into this diet with lots of questions 😅😅Do you have any specific video talking about coconut as a whole in this diet? I mean eating fresh or shredded coconut as fruit in a daily basis, is it forbidden?
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 4 жыл бұрын
hmm, no I don't think I've got a video or blog post on that (had to think about that for a sec!) but you definitely can use coconut in any form on this diet. I will caution you to watch the amounts, as it's VERY easy to go overboard if you make baked goods or specialty items to eat a lot of coconut as it's one of the only versatile ingredients we have to work with, but as long as you don't eat it in every meal and in several forms each meal you should be fine.

Michele Spring thanks a lot for the reply. And I have one more struggle in this diet. Whenever I eat vegetable in any type and form, no matter raw or cooked, Causes bloating and produces gas which is really bothering. Only by eating lean meat and chicken I dont feel bloating. Do you have any recommendation for me to figure this problem out?
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 4 жыл бұрын
@@saram4026 could be that you're not producing the right digestive enzymes to digest the veggies. If you're doing ok with proteins then that's where I'd start. Izabella Wentz actually wrote a great article about this that may help: thyroidpharmacist.com/articles/veggie-enzymes-and-hashimotos/ .Also probiotics may help as well - the gut bacteria that you have may not be able to handle the veggies so if you can help that process out that may stop the bloating too.

Sorry, for some reason this comment went to my spam! But I usually get them from Amazon. This was the dandelion root I got last time: amzn.to/3ptObSm and the chicory: amzn.to/3qsPCBM . There's also a new product out that I love called Sip Herbals which is a premade mix of the two in a ratio I find most like coffee. It's quite delicious! You can get that here: sipherbals.com/?ref=MTd6JqXDT1Hw1 (use code Thriving10 to get 10% off)

On the elimination diet (if you follow Dr. Sarah Ballantyne's version), it is recommended to remove these entirely. They are both Stage 1 reintroductions though, so they're some of the first to come back.

I have hoshimoto, can I not have ashwagandha? Please reply.
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 2 жыл бұрын
You can have ashwagandha with Hashi's - it's just if you are on the AIP diet (Autoimmune Protocol) that it's eliminated for the initial phase because it can be an immune stimulant. If you want to calm down an autoimmune attack of your thyroid tissue, it's best to avoid immune stimulants for a while just to make sure that they aren't making the attack worse...

@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 3 жыл бұрын
These powders always go in and out of availability so it's hard to keep up!. I don't think Covid-restrictions have helped either, making things hard to get. But anyway - I've had this one in the past and I've liked it: amzn.to/34Po2pU They're pretty expensive, but they last forever so it kind of offsets the expense. Like a 3 oz package lasts me like 1-2 years because you only use like 1/2 tsp-1 tsp at a time.

I am so confused. Is it okay to have sweetness? I was told zero sweetness of any kind. I was also told to eat plenty of nuts and seeds. I feel like im going to lose my mind.
@MicheleSpring

This is specifically for the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP Diet), which excludes nuts and seeds (amongst other things) and doesn't exclude sweet things (though it's advised to have them in moderation). It sounds like you're working with someone who maybe put you on a specific diet, but it doesn't sound like AIP?

I'm confused. I have hashimotos and was told that coffee was beneficial.
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring Жыл бұрын
It's not that coffee is harmful - if you're not feeling great from your Hashi's and/or your immune system is still attacking your thyroid (which typically happens if you don't stop the attack via diet and lifestyle - won't happen just from taking a thyroid replacement like levothyroxine), then many people choose to do the Autoimmune Protocol to stop that attack and feel better. In the Autoimmune protocol (AIP diet), you remove seeds, along with a bunch of other things, for at least 30 days and then slowly reintroduce them to see if they cause symptoms or issues. Since coffee is a seed, it's eliminated. However, it also can be problematic for those with Hashi's as the adrenals are closely tied with the thyroid and caffeine is a stimulant, causing more cortistol (stress hormone) to be pumped out and this can cause a lot of symptoms and issues with people as well. So there are several reasons that coffee could potentially be problematic. If you feel great, don't have any afternoon tiredness at all, can handle stress without any issues, don't feel any sensitivity to light, salt cravings, etc then don't worry about it - coffee is fine to keep in! I drink a cup every day...

@MicheleSpring

most of the spices you should be able to get at your local grocery store. The only one you may have an issue finding is Mace - I usually get that on Amazon. As for the chicory/dandelion and beet powder, they *may* be at a local health-minded grocery store like Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, or Sprouts or you can get them on Amazon as well.

I didnt know elderberry wasn't allowed...
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 4 жыл бұрын
it's definitely one of those grey area foods, but since it stimulates the immune system it means it also has the potential to stimulate the autoimmune response (aka more symptoms and ramping up of autoimmune activity). So some people can keep it in but it is recommended to take it out while on the elimination phase.
