8 BEST Places to Fly a Drone in Iceland (summer) 🚁

In this video, you’ll find 8 amazing places to fly your drone in Iceland. They’re all easily accessible and on the Ring Road or not too far from it.
A quick disclaimer: to the best of my knowledge, drone flying is permitted at these locations (as of July 2021). I didn’t see any signs at the locations featured in this video when I was there. I also couldn’t find anything on the internet about drones being forbidden in these specific places.
If you’re planning on flying your drone in Iceland, do your research first! Many of the places that were marked as good for flying on the DJI fly app actually had signs that said drones were forbidden. And be extra careful when you’re in the air. My Mavic Mini had trouble in several places because of wind gusts that came out of nowhere. The winds (and birds) are no joke in Iceland.

Hello, these are great shots, very nice! I want to bring my drone to Iceland but the more I read about regulations, its pretty much illegal at most tourist spots. can you comment on this. Is it worth bringing if I am only on the South coast?

Thanks for watching! I think it is so worth it to bring your drone, even if you only end up flying it a few times. I’d say that I had more of a problem with weather and wind than places being illegal to fly at. All of the locations in this video are perfectly legal to fly (to the best of my knowledge), and there are a ton of places you can pull off on the side of the road to fly, too. It might also be good to know that at most of the places that are “illegal,” there is just a little sign that says no flying. Some of them are incredibly easy to miss, and it’s hard to know if it’s a place that’s actually illegal to fly in or if somebody just put that there. I’m not promoting illegal flying by saying this, but I did see a lot of people flying in no fly zones. There isn’t anyone enforcing it anywhere, so do with that what you will haha. Regardless, if you’re planning on sticking to 100% legal places, there are plenty that you can choose from. If you have the space in your bag, definitely bring it. Is it easy to fly there ? Was your flight in national parcs ?

It’s very easy to fly in Iceland if the weather is cooperating! None of the locations featured are in National Parks. The areas that ban flying usually have signs, but I did see quite a few people flying in places with “no drone” signs. It can be easy to miss the signs, but there is nobody enforcing the rules almost everywhere 🤷‍♀️

It was diffcult for me to find a map that was accurate. I usually rely on the DJI map in the fly app, but it didn’t have any of the no fly zones except for the airport, which is an obvious one. I couldn’t find any others on Google, but maybe I didn’t look hard enough. But once I realized that I couldn’t rely on the DJI map, I just looked around to see if there were any signs at the location before I flew. Most of the signs were at trailhead signs
