eddie huang korea got influenced by china but they always put their own spin on chinese based things. Korea was also never a chinese vassal because they had their own empire, and the only two times they were apart of another empire was the mongols and the japanese.

You can buy #8 at many stores in Flushing. The soup is good if you don't add too much water, should be 80% of what it took to soak the noodle. The soup is a good palate cleanser between bites of noodles. Also #1 is just nostalgia. Foodies often vote with their emotions and nostalgia from childhood is a powerful emotion.

I went to Taiwan and I had the non-hot version of the chili beef soup -- the one with the beef packet inside. We had never tried anything like it before and we were freaked out at first by the meat with broth packet, but they were so delicious! Very different to Japanese Instant Ramen, it has like a chinese spice to the broth and a thickness and oiliness to the soup that ramen doesn't have. I will say though that I did crave Japanese-style ramen a bit while in Taiwan, and that's extremely hard to find there-- I think most of the Instant noodle options at 7-11 etc are all Taiwanese style broth noodles with the chinese spice, but that said it is still delicious. It's neat to see these in videos, I described them to my friends and they didn't really 'get' what I meant.

if there are any concerns for cancer, i am pretty certain it is the act of pouring boiling water into the styrofoam bowls which are lined with presumably BPA or some other form of poly carbon barrier. BPA is an estrogen mimic and over exposure to estrogen causes the telomeres of cancer cells to degenerate slower than normal. In other words, don't eat out of the styrfoam bowls, use a ceramic bowl

No trade agreement in place between Taiwan and the US to allow exported meat to be sold here in America. Incidentally there's another flavor in that Ramen series that contained chunks of roasted eels in the pouch that's sold in the stateside in pretty limited availability. Apparently fish is okay, just not meat.

With the Wei Li, you're supposed to cook the seasoning with the noodles then pour the soup out, not mix them separately. The soup is much better and much less salty because some of the seasoning stays with the noodles. Also the ones with the meat in the packets, you're supposed to add them in after cooking the noodles. Not sure if it makes a difference, but that's what the instructions say ;o

Some of them you can’t buy in the US as you can’t really import “real” meat chunks because of health hazard. Some of them you can just purchase at your local Chinese store, if not try the Japanese store.

The 科學麵 is similar to how Malaysians eat Mamee noodles back then which transformed into an actual snack this recent decade haha. Definitely delicious, and supposedly was one of the best local instant noodle before Maggie became the norm

Mike, I love you for recommending Uni- President. Really enjoyed having real beef and the flavor was fabulous. Having to import them was expensive and I likely won’t buy them often. But, man.. in my ramen quest I loved this.
