Great video! We’re going to be moving out of our small rental office/studio in the Spring when we move into our new condo (work from home). We have many of the things you recommended, but I love the look and idea of the charging wall (that’s something we need to work on for sure) and those fancy bins with dividers looked really cool as well! A rolling desk is a great idea as the room we plan on using as our video room, will also be used for our other hobbies and working out, so having the flexibility to move the table around would be perfect. Thanks for the video, and loved your look here, Becki!

Great video . The storage bins are a must . I have smaller ones that stack on top of each other for all the real small fiddly bits . After every shoot , you gotta tidy up and put everything back where it belongs too . Staying organised goes a long way . Killer post Beck ! ✌🏼✌🏼

All great pieces of advice for the home studio or any studio. Another few options on the lighting front would be a Godox SL60 or SL200 or GVM 80W COB. Being cheaper, the build and fan noise aren't as good as a 120D or Amaran, but I've used both a lot, and they provide great light for a very approachable price if people are just getting started. Both have Bowens mounts and umbrella holders, so you can slap a source of diffusion on them as well. Great as always. I love the work you put out Becki, and I always get excited when I see a new episode of the podcast pop on my podcast app. Thanks for doing your thing!

Old lateral files make great heavy duty storage. The drawers are wide and can hold lots of weight. Think boxes of paper. Best of all they can be free. Offices are getting rid of them as they move paper online. Set up a search in the free section of craigslist and have it email you when one shows up.

Oh, man would I love to have the space for a dedicated studio! My office is in the attic space where the roof peak leaves only standing room in the middle of the space. I have not figured out how to film in there yet. I often set up in my living room (which is actually a really cool space with lots of options) but I have to haul it all down 2 floors and then take it all back up when I'm done. Sometimes I haul it all to my auto workshop and film there. And, of course, out on the trail too. It's a fun challenge but a lot of hauling around. I'll get that permanent studio someday. And when I do, I'll do a lot of these things! Thanks for the insights and keep it up.

I've been running three small softboxes on cheap stands with 12 bulbs that you have to screw in each time. I got them because it was the cheapest way to experiment with lighting for KZfaq and I could still use them for remote product photography, and even on-site (despite their weak output and cumbersome nature). As my channel has grown, and as I've just transitioned video/photography back to a "nights and weekends" endeavor after trying freelance for a year, I just got a 120dii and a heavy duty c stand. Idk what the hell I was thinking waiting so long, and prioritizing other gear over this. The output is SO much better. The quality is better. It's not gonna fall over. It's heavy but still really portable. Setup is sooo much faster. Having a remote is epic. A sturdy top-down is possible now. I honestly feel dumb because I've heard so often that good lighting is important yet I waited a really long time.

All very good suggestions. Thanks! If I can add to the discussion, in the past I have had equipment damaged (microphones, camera) due to improper stands/cable management. I know many have the mindset of quick set-ups, but always ensure the space and equipment are properly secured and organized. Keeping a clean set-up at home or on the go is essential. Make sure you have the right tools for the job will make everything go so much smoother.

Since my home office for recording talking head videos is small, I don't have enough space for another light and I can't record videos with afternoon sunlight. I ordered a large 5-in-1 reflector and a reflector clamp after watching this video. I can reflect light on one side, block the afternoon sunlight on the other side, and move the stand when not in use.

Due to the layout I think it’s best to have something that doesn’t need to be plugged into a wall because long extension cords will turn into a tripping hazard.
