As an island girl too, the open toed shoes and the showering were big culture shocks. Also, the fact that everything is so far away, even stores, was really new. On top of that the fact that people go to Walmart, for example, in their pajamas is still weird to me. I can’t get on board with it. When I go out I have to at least be wearing jeans.

When I was going to college in the US I would also be most surprised about the athletic ware the whole day and also the party thing. 21 old girls would be throwing up on the toilets after two beers. In general, it felt much more like high school than university. People were super cliquey and would gossip about everyone.

Im dyiiiiing with these hahahah I am Colombian and went to UVA and can relate to every single thing. My friends and I used to go to the dining halls and chill for hours, have our dessert, coffee, etc while Americans ate standing up walking to the library or class.

lol, the one time I had a geography lesson in my entire schooling career before college, was a week-long unit in my world history class in 10th grade. Our exam was just a fill-the-blank map. I think any of the knowledge of geography largely has to with the fact that I am a child of immigrants and spent time abroad growing up.... anyhow my geography is still very bad.

I’m American and I never heard of ppl showering every other day in Texas it’s so hot so ppl shower at least once a day or sometimes 2 times a day but ppl tend to shower at night

Yeah some of them went to international schools in their country before university so a lot of the time the teachers and staff have American sounding accents so I guess they just pick that up I think.
