+jwrelectro Well thanks for the kind comment and for watching. By looking at your layout I'm really looking forward to your videos. There is so much you can do with all that equipment. I got the same HP 8640B from an auction for $50 not long ago. I"m not sure if it works 100% as the fine tune freq nob was bent and is not able to turn. It might still be good for bulk target signals if its working at all. I took it apart when I got it because there was screws rolling around inside. I didn't crack open the cavities of course but for sure I didn't want the screws rolling over any circuits. I will test it out sometime this winter I hope.

Hi my friend, where I find the blue base from my table? This is soldering protection?
@jwrelectro
@jwrelectro 7 жыл бұрын
It is a Botron B3123 Dissipative (anti-static) rubber mat which needs to be grounded. It is available from Amazon and I think it is a very nice product. I do not use it for solder protection. I use a piece of cardboard from an old cardboard box when I solder.

I hope that you please will comment on this:-) You are right in many are saying that an analog oscilloscope is important and yes Dave from the EEVblog even says that one will learn a lot by getting one, but I do not think I have heard anyone telling why it is so fantastic to get one, I mean there have to be a reason for why it is the DSO that are been made now and the analog is almost faded completely out?
@jwrelectro
@jwrelectro 5 жыл бұрын
I am an old guy so I was raised on analog oscopes. Yup I have heard Dave mention the same thing and I agree with him. I think he was also pointing out that an old used analog oscope would be very inexpensive and still be a great learning tool. One advantage of an analog oscope over a digital one is "oscilloscope aliasing" and you can just google it for a lot of information on the subject. Also the analog oscope can display a contentiously variable waveform while the digital does discrete steps and then it can smooth the results by connecting the dots, (discrete points). You can easily see this by looking at a saw-tooth, triangle, or ramp waveform. As you increase the sweep speed the analog will show a contentious line while at some point the digital might show a stair step pattern. Obliviously with the proper setting and BW on the digital oscope it can effectively reduced this problem. As a hobbyist looking at some modulation scheme like AM or cat-eyes I like the analog representation better. I like both analog and digital oscopes and as you mentioned the digital ones have become the dominate amplitude-time instrument. Hope this answers your question and thanks for commenting.

Nice video JWR. But, I think you should cover the windows so no one can look in to see what is in there. And possibly in a way that you can open it only when you are in there.
@jwrelectro

Thanks, glad you liked the video. Only one main sliding window in the garage and it has about 12-inches high opening, someone would also need a ladder, and it is on the front of the house in the open. So without a small ladder you can not see into the garage. Also I do lock it and the house has an alarm system with smart phone notification. Thanks for commenting.

Have you had any problems with that orange-button PS next to the stereo? I've got one that looks very similar (apparently these are common, rebranded many times over), and last time I tried to use it, the CV/CC interactions seem broken... Thx.

I rarely use that power supply anymore since I have a couple of newer ones. In fact, to get more room for a few new items it is now in a cabinet. The times that I have used it I didn't notice any problems with CV/CC.

Hello Nice lab. I would like to know where you bought the electronic component drawer units. Thank you
@jwrelectro
@jwrelectro 5 жыл бұрын
I purchase them from Amazon.com. Just checked for you and they are still available. I bought two different models from the same manufacturer. The 64 drawer is model 10164 and the 44 drawer is model 10144d. Rather than a link that might break just go to Amazon.com and enter a search for Akro-Mils and those two models plus others will show-up. Hope this helps.

@jwrelectro

kabrati, if you are referring to the drill press around 3:24 minutes in the video it is a Sears. I bought it many years ago and have been happy with it. My neighbor also has the same one and he also likes it. Unfortunately Sears says it is temporarily unavailable. It is a 2/3 max HP with a Laser trac system. Sears model number 137.219000. I am sure it is made in China and there are many look-a-likes on the Internet (The WEN model at Sears and Home Depot).

Rather then a link just go to Amazon.com and put in the search field: Akro-Mils. They both will come right up and that way I don't have to worry about a broken link in the future. With 188 reviews they are almost given a full 5 star rating. My opinion are they are very nice, fair price, and I have been enjoying them.
