Everyone knows who won this race. It may not be in the official record but Ken won and has the triple crown without any doubt.

What a adrenaline rush of a movie. The music, the revving and roaring of the engines, the camera angels to passing cars along with random acts of hellfire accidents to avoid. A very much enjoying movie of Ford v Ferrari. RIP Ken Miles.

The triple crown! Sebring, Daytona, Le Mans, did happen. And Ken Miles did it, and should be forever remembered, and Crowned as the incomparable, victorious champion of motorsports. Though his victory at "Le Mans" was stifled by a technicality, Ken was truly the first and only triple crown champion, done in the car that he helped design. The GT40.

I've always known what happened at LeMans , with Ken Miles being told to slow down ,but watching this almost makes me , a grown man , cry .

I actually got emotional watching the movie when ken died in practice. I really had no idea what the movie was really about. Probably one of my new favorite racing movies by far.

Watched the movie and was torn apart on how it ended..... Ken Miles really deserved the win.

watched the movie last night. it's still here in my head. have followed this story for 54 years now. something happened to me last night. I smiled from ear to ear for 2 hours and 25 minutes. I had to leave before the ending. couldn't stand to see it. I wanted it to go on and on it was soo good!

I came here after watching ford v ferrari , and it really hurts me so much for what ford did to ken miles , i couldn't imagine how much it wud have hurt him , thanks for the movie thanks for this documentry for letting the world know this unsung hero , according to me he won the triple crown.

Buddy and I to see the movie in 4 days... CAN'T WAIT!! I followed sports car racing very closely then. I was a senior in HS in '66. Ken Miles won this race. I don't care who's name is on the trophy.

Ken's GT 40 is now in the Shelby museum in Boulder, CO, USA. Every first Saturday of September, Labor Day, the museum has a big party.. Last year 2021, Ken Miles son, Peter was the guest. The other hero of this story is McLaren, his contribution to motor sport in the 60’s would be seen more grandly if he was British or American, as a humble New Zealander he won in everything from CanAm to F1 to Indy in cars of his own design... and had his own role in polishing GT40s into Le Man winners. Check out his biography if you can find it.

Something to note: The GT40s that won LeMans on 66 and 67 were Ford works teams, but Ford withdrew from LeMans afterwards. However a handful of teams were still racing them in 68 and 69, and one of them carried the torch of the Ford works’ winning streak. The GT40 that won the 68 and 69 LeMans was privately owned by John Wyer, the original guy that Ford contacted to create the GT40, but fired when it was unsuccessful at 64. Ironically, that gulf liveried Mk I is perhaps the most famous GT40 to date, and as far as I know the only car that ever won Le Mans twice. (The 69 winner that won Le Mans was the exact same car as the one that won in 68 with a different racing number)

I looked this up this morning. McLaren was 52 seconds in front ,when both were told too slow down, McLaren did , Miles didn’t according to 2 sources I read.I get upset when people are saying that Bruce McLaren,was somehow dishonourable.

This video was fantastic. I'm glad I found it in my recommended videos. Can't wait to share it and play it for friends. I too had never heard of Ken Miles until today even though I was familiar with this race. What an incredible guy and what an incredible day in history. It was sweet and bitter, full of aggravation and celebration. The pressure and the stakes and drama were sky high. The end result was the culmination of so much hard work by so many, many whose names have been lost. Big congrats to all the engineers, mechanics and drivers who pulled this off in about three years of pushing. That's not a lot of time to win against the legendary Ferrari teams who had been eating and breathing this sport for decades. It goes to show that with bails of money, brute force, and teams of dedicated professionals, one could conquer the world. Conversely I see Ferrari's side; a very small company that always punched above its weight and somehow felt that they'd been had. Then again, it's good to see they got the stuffing beat out of them a few times by some Americans too.

I really don't like how the old guy at the end kept talking about how he "won". He didn't win anything. The winner was told to slow down and share 1st place. How do you brag about a race that you only won by the leader hitting the brakes and LETTING you catch up??? One of the greatest injustices in motor sports history.

So I have an old reference book, owned it for many years. A 1970 copy of the Encyclopedia of Motor Racing. It lists all the results for LeMans over all the years, and in fact mentions that Ford Motor had just funded a rebuild of the corner before the pits. This helped slow down cars and make pit entry safer (1968). The winner of the 1966 race is the Chris Amon car. The photo, one of only 20 or so in the whole book, is the (#1) Ken Miles car. Appropriate tribute.

Why is no one commenting about 14:00 where Amon clearly states Miles only took the lead because he didn't follow the team orders to slow down?

I met Ken at Sebring in '65, I think, he wad sitting in his Cobra. My dad had been going there since 1956, and I was only 12 at the time. But since I had been going since I was 5, I kinda knew who all the guys were. Still have the picture I took with my Brownie Kodak of him at Sebring. The movie was great for people who have no idea how things were back then, yet having been going to all of these race ever since, well I guess ya had to be there. Dayton had a cafeteria in the paddocks, and if ya knew your way around you could go in there at 2 in the morning, and sit right next to these guys. Sitting next to Pedro Rodriguez and Graham Hill when the #2 917 Porsches were wearing the orange and blue colors was a dream come true for a 14 year old kid! This movie really does bring back great memories of When Giants Raced! The 917 Porsches were absolutely amazing!

Legend. Never to be done again. This is history people.

Wait a minute. All these years we've been told the "wrong car" (McLaren/Amon in the #2) won the race because of a technicality, i.e. they started further back, so they covered more distance overall. But, thanks to this video, we learn the #2 was in the lead, and was the first to slow when told to do so, then comes the 2nd place car, car #1, driven by Miles and Hulme and they overtake the #2 car before giving in to the team orders. When the #1 car passed the already slow moving #2 car, McLaren or Amon must've been thinking, "What the hell, did they not get the memo? We were comfortably in the lead!" Then the #1 finally slows for the photo-finish/dead-heat finish. Then, since the McLaren/Amon car started 8 meters further back, therefore they covered more ground in 24 hours, they got the win that was rightfully theirs, and were going to get anyway because they were well in the lead before the photo-op shenanigans. So McLaren and Amon, driving that gorgeous black (with 2 white racing stripes) #2 car got the win that was rightfully going to be theirs anyway, i.e. if the photo-op crap never entered the picture, pun intended, the #2 car would've driven on to a commanding win over the #1 car that was well behind it, running at racing speeds. So in the end, the technicality that made the "wrong car" win, actually made the right car win. The car that was in 1st since before Ford emerged from the heavens in his helicopter. All these years, decades, I was under the impression that the 2nd place car, the #1, got robbed of a win because of this controversy, because the WHOLE story was something I was never told of in the countless retellings of this classic Le Mans "happening."So👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼for the #2 car driven by McLaren and Amon, sorry for thinking you were gifted the win, and at least this gearhead now knows the correct car won, in a roundabout way.😎
