@J S You are wrong JS. China treat all GUESTS equally regardless of skin colour. If you are White but rude & arrogant , China will give you what you deserve. No colour preferences in China. To China , the world is a rainbow. So pls erase you illusion that WHITE represent PRIVILEDGE. Anyway , welcome to China. Mutual respect please.

When foreigners are in China, they adapt to the environment and get to see and feel a real unique context - hence, they are surprised that they feel more comfortable in China compared to how they would imagine the type of living they would have prior to experience China for the first time. Humans can change and adapt to be part of the group/population in a society or have the urge to naturally protect themselves like how others do when they are in a new environment (sometimes they would fall in love with a place which may not be considered on top of their list in the first place). Travel itself is a great opportunity to understand what a real world is like compared to getting influenced by all sorts of social media.
@yyysboy1
@yyysboy1 Жыл бұрын
when you say community - because Chinese ppl interact with each other hence activity groups for fun things in parks easily form up, but in the western world, not much interaction (as in personal space and boundary concept) and things take time to be organised hence you wouldnt see heaps older ppl gathering for a shared fun time in the parks in western countries (except new migrant communities sometimes). this explains why there is such a sense of community (it's like a organic group with no one leading or a not for profit reason).

cost wise, it is hugely different if you compare cities (beijing, shanghai, etc are a lot more expensive, can be more expensive than many countries - things like coffee, western food restaurant, international branded clothing, rent, etc). But, if you are cool with local grocery items, street food, non-branded stuff, etc - you will find it easier to afford especially when you use ur stronger currency from homecountry to spend in China.

but as for foreigners (even for myself who hasnt lived in China for a long time) , the unique app for only-in-China use can be confusing and complicated in terms of registration & the process, but once you get used to it (and you have settled down as a long term resident with mobile no. & bank account), it may be easier and convenient. For those who travel there solo with no plan to live there, the so called "convenience" attached to only 1 phone may not be easy to achieve.

If you're in LA or New York, it's easy to get authentic Chinese food. You just need to ask a Chinese-American friend to take you to restaurants, where 95% of the people eating there are Chinese. And we're not talking about Panda express or any other "Chinese" restaurants that primarily serves non-Chinese people.

The most authentic Chinese food in most western countries is Cantonese cuisine. Stray from that, and you might get something not known in China.

@@Zerpentsa6598 For the most part, yes. But in SCal, there are Taiwanese food. But, many people aren't aware that there are hidden gems within SCal. I've been to a Minnan and Teochew restaurants {From Fujian and Guandong (different than cantonese food)} and it's very very popular. You'd have to get in line at 6am. There are also Chinese restaurants run by other ethnic Chinese who migrated to other countries since the 1800's or early 1900's and ended up migrating to USA, and brought with them their local Chinese cuisines.

@@cleve21ful I won't dispute that. But as you know, things inevitably evolve, both with the original and the overseas. Even in Singapore where there's a huge overseas Chinese community, the highly popular (and priced) Putian chain claim to serve authentic Putian, Fujian food. But I have noticed that many of the dishes have been adapted to suit local tastes and availability of ingredients. And this applies to many of the commercial outfits selling what they claim to be Fujian/Hokkien, Teochew, Hainan, Sichuan, etc. dishes. Without "appellation controlee" for foods it is hard to say which is more authentic. Some have even argued the the "Hainan" chicken rice in Singapore is better and more authentic than that in Hainan!
@cleve21ful
@cleve21ful 3 жыл бұрын
@@Zerpentsa6598 I won't doubt that overtime, the cuisine has evolved from a mixture of the original and local. But Singapore...they're quite notorious of having bad food. LMAO! 95% of Singaporean food are based off of Malaysian and Indonesian food (and these two countries have a mixture of Chinese food origin as part of their cuisine due to centuries of Chinese migration). I'd doubt that the Hainan Chicken is more authentic in Singapore. Anyways, my point is that there are plenty of Chinese food (specifically the southern Chinese cuisine) in the US. It's easily accessible, cheap, and delicious. And I'd say for other world cuisines as well. That's the great thing about the US! Even the recent Chinese immigrants who's opening up XI'an or northern cuisine are adapting their cooking to fit the locals taste.

Chinese ppl in China in general are friendly to foreigners, sometimes they do things which may not be received as polite or even offensive by some foreigners - but they are from good intention due to heaps curiosity toward foreigners (like, who they are and what they are like and why they look certain way) - in other words, it's important to keep in mind NOT many Chinese citizens can afford to live overseas or have overseas holidays - not even once in their life! (especially in the western countries which may be more expensive for many Chinese citizens), hence their ways of interactions may be less adapted/fine tuned when it comes to so called "international standard" for a more neutral or acceptable way of interaction, but I'm sure most of them are just simply very friendly, are from good intention and want to get to know a bit about who you are - this is more common in smaller places like small cities or semi rural places in China :)

you have a really smiley face and i wonder whether you've always been this way or only after moving to china? no doubt being a smiley, happy and positive person attracts similar energy from the people around you. also wanted to add that travelling around the continent of asia as a solo female, i felt more comfortable on balance than when i was in the western country i live in. not all these asian countries have CCTV cameras everywhere so i think the sense of safety has less to do with CCTV - although it could be beneficial as a deterrent to crimes and untoward behaviour - and more to do with the general asian mindset and culture of being less aggressive and more zen.

People who think there's cameras everywhere so there's no privacy, have u ever thought that even if there's no cameras, u are in public places, there's still peoples' eyes in public who may be looking at u from time to time anyway, so not much privacy at all too. Besides, everyone owns a smartphone, people may anytime take photos or videos of u whether on purpose or not. The only privacy u can have is in your own home, in your own room. Those cameras outside in public plays a huge role to deter any crimes.

Hooray - food is the best reason ha ha Im a foodie! I miss authentic Chinese everyday type of food (xiao chi) in China - here in Oz it is rare and expensive! Even the high rating food places it is not quite the same & not a very wide range to choose from :) Where I am, a small city, most locals think lots of dishes in the westernised Chinese restaurants are GOOD CHINESE FOOD - well, I won't call it China Chinese food, it may be Chinese food of a different style with influence from places outside China (even tho the chefs may be from Chinese background generations back). It is really about how locals define "Chinese" which is quite blurry and general I guess.

Tianjin is my hometown. That park is very close to my home. I can see the lake from the window of my house. I have been to that park a thousand times.

Really!?! I paid more for that but I think it was because I went during Chinese New Year. It was a wonderful trip but I didn't realize it could be that cheap for a roundtrip flight. Thanks for the info.

About Chinese food, I'm not sure where you've been in China. Different place has different foods and cuisine style. Suggesting you to travel to other cities as many as possible to discover and enjoy the food haven.
