JT You seem to have missed a couple of things that are very important not to do's. 1- Never get drunk and fall asleep naked in your rack. It will just be ugly... 2- Never try to sneak a 15 year old Australian girl on board thinking you are going to bring her home with you. Yes I have seen that happen. 3- Never jump overboard into 20 foot swells. You really upset the divers when you do that. 4-Never ever gamble with shipmates if you are not a gambler, even if the game is Spades. 5- Never ever ever piss off the cooks. Ever!!!!

I'm a 53 year old man and a 911 public servant. Am I one of the older subs here? I served in the Navy for 4 years on 2 different carriers and made 3 West Pac's to the Gulf. JT gives good advice. If a Youngster ask me ? 1. Enjoy every day you can cause at 53 you will appreciate your service more. 2. Shut the fuck up cause know one cares what you think when you are a Rookie 3. Don't be a dirtbag, hygiene is huge, with out it we are animals 4. Be respectful and professional but party like a sailor cause we have a reputation. 5. Support JT Suits cause it's great info and I wish I had the Intel back in 83.⚓️ 6. Cheers BITCH 🍻

Hey, man, you ain't the oldest one here, I'm 71. Originally went to the navy in 65. But when I was about thru with Great Lakes, I decided the Nav wasn't for me. I put in chit, after chit to transfer to the Corps. I think they realized I wouldn't make a good sailor, and then they were drafting for the army and the Corps. Well it was less for the Marines, mostly army was drafted. And I'm glad I got out, well after 22 weeks at Coronado and then went to Pendelton. I'm glad I got the experience of all that. Coronado was 25 wks, needles to say I didn't graduate, but hey it was an experience. Most of the rest of my enlistment I spent in the NAM, 3rd Mar div, Hq Bn, spec unit 2.

I was on the Midway from 73 -75 . V-2 division I worked “ arresting gear” # 2 wire .was there during the fall of Saigon. From there went to the Constellation . Finished up an E-5 working in the division office under an E-9 . Almost shipped over but they denied me the east coast. I wanted the Nimitz cause it was to make a world cruise . Anyway I got out in 77 but the older I get the more I wish I would have done the 20 . Thanks for reading this and thanks for your service .🇺🇸

What a bunch of skells, who would want someone else's shower shoes, it could have foot rot fungus on them. It defeats the whole purpose but I do agree some people will steal ANYTHING that is not nailed down. That's why smaller ships are better and IMHO combat systems is better because you don't have to sleep with the deck apes. Combat systems generally has better more trustworthy more intelligent people. That was my experience on an FFG. Both of the other COOPS were smelly, dirty and had thievery, we only had one thief. My division. He was part of group, of a certain minority and they got caught breaking into lockers, stealing cameras and laptops and selling them in the pawn shops, but they got caught and went to mast. I wish they went to the brig. Scum. He was always shunned after that.

Those sweaty t-shirts from going on liberty. Don't put them in the laundry bag. Yep they go through laundry bags looking for T-shirts that came from Benning and Bragg. BUT when they find you really did spend a bunch of time there. Either hide them of float test them. I have been known to hand out some wall to wall counseling. Yes I do know how to do bayonet drills. No I was not a Marine. No you cannot wear those tabs and fancy things like 11B ropes on your dress uniform. Just the expeditionary medals and ribbons. A base commander looked the full load question me about them. I gave him my serial number. I told him I can only tell you about them in your office. They are on my DD 214. But the why? That is why I chose the Navy after one Army enlistment. I don't like broken bones and stitches.

1. Lysol Wipes - we didn't have those when I joined over 30 years ago. 2. Sliding down ladders is fun till someone gets hurt. 3. I spent a god bit of time at sea working on courses and ESWS quals. 4. Knee knockers add to the fun of racing through P-ways. 5. Large ships have plenty of places to "skate off." 6. My best food came from connections in the galley. 7. Don't walk into the head barefoot either. 8. I served on two carriers, an oiler, and a big deck amphib.

Not only did I learn to slide down the ladder rails, but on some of the spaces, one could snag a chill pipe in the overhead and use it to change direction then drop down on the next ladder and continue the decent . My personal best is three decks without my feet touching the deck.

I can add something to the list: 'don't bang the first cute girl you run into'. No explanation needed I think. And btw, running into an OF6 (Commodore) isn't that bad, they're often nicer than lower ranks who still feel like they have to prove something. Btw, would love to work on a carrier. We don't have them in my country, and it seems awesome to be part of such an impressive platform

Very good info for future sailors, especially the parts about hygiene! Sliding down ladder wells is very unsafe but we did it all the time. You have to learn how to stop mid-way down the ladder.😁 As far as "skating" goes, do everything that is expected of you and then skate if you like. But first, learn when to check-in and who to check in with, and only after completing whatever you were told to do, you only need one of the two things to occur to be good to go all the time, but two is best. 1) be in the right place at the right time or 2) with the right person at the right time and you'll be good all the time. Waiting in line for grub was a 2-hour wait for each meal (except mid-rats). Our workday consisted of ~6 hours of work and ~6 hours of waiting in lines (on an aircraft carrier).👍 Underway the drinking water had a very consistent dose of JP-5 (nowadays I think its JP-6) so we usually survived on beverages from the mess decks. Thanks for the video!

@blaine_mccoy8327 2 жыл бұрын
We still use JP-5, on the 18s at least, I dont know about other aircraft though but I would assume they all use JP-5, but ya gotta love a little dose of it in your water, adds a little spice😂

1. My rack was pretty clean from the get go. I never used Lysol whips on it. 2. You only get in trouble when you get hurt, it’s the best way to move down the ladders when it’s an emergency. 3. I never dwelled about being out to sea, going on deployments were the absolute best times for me. I always had someone to hang out with, I knew everyone from a lot of different departments and it was never hard to get anything done when I needed it. 4. I speed walk naturally so I didn’t worry about hustling through the p- ways. 5. The best secondary job in the world to get onboard is being the DCPO. I had my own office, I had my own things to do, so during cleaning stations guess what I did....I would shut down AC units just so then I could sit inside them and pretend to work or in home port I would go outside with my guys to the roach coach and get some food and chill. 6. I always ate in the galley, I enjoyed the food as long as I had some Texas Pete. FYI the base galley is amazing. 7. I touched my face and eyes. Hell I dipped so I had to put my fingers in my mouth and luckily I never got sick like some people did. 8. Make friends, be kind to everyone. You never know what someone can hook you up with when you need it. Enjoy your time because it may seem shitty sometimes but you will always remember the amazing times and the amazing people that you truly call your ship mates.

Do not become a rack sloth......get a routine down, and workout. You can do calisthenics someplace if you're on a smaller ship. JT was correct about "extra" stuff. Don't have the bare minimum of uniforms, you'll regret it.
@tidefanyankee2428
@tidefanyankee2428 5 жыл бұрын
They sell uniform items on ships, but usually not very much. How much they sell (variety/quantity) is dependent on the size of the ship. Having a uniform for everyday of the week is impractical. Just make sure that you aren't always completely dependent on having to do laundry for having a presentable uniform should the need arise. If you are supposed to have 3, I would have 5. Extra underwear, t-shirts, and socks will make life easier. When I was a Corpsman with the Marines we had to have 3 or 4 sets of camouflage utilities if I remember correctly. I had 6 or 7. There is nothing worse than having to do laundry because you don't have any clean/serviceable uniforms for the next day and finding out that a washer/dryer is broken or there is a long line. It's nice to know that you have a couple of extra uniforms. However.....in the barracks with the Marines I had a LOT more room to store things. A wall locker, a sea-bag under my bed or on top of my locker etc.....I could also put things in my vehicle.

Lysol, for sure!!!! I keep the same rack on every cruise, but the boat chucks use our berthing when the CAG is gone. I come back, and some melted ass jolly ranchers are stuck on the inside of my rack near the hinge. I tried getting it off, but jolly ranchers are like cement. It's not coming off. I literally need to get into a hazmat suit to clean my rack and locker before I unpack. There's life growing in those crevices 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Make sure you lock your stuff up! I mean almost everything, because every ship has a thief there and If you want to keep it don't leave gear adrift. Even your dirty and soiled laundry is not safe around anyone. So if your single and has to live aboard ship (ughh) don't bring or buy too much stuff.
