I am so happy to wake up to see my black shepherd every morning. He greets me as I greet him. He runs with me as I run. He calls to me as I call him. He protects me when I need him most. He is cunning, intelligent, fast, suave, protective, loving, caring but most of all, he will kill with a single stroke if you mean harm.😁😘✌️👏.

Mine too!! I trust his judgement of people when WE meet them, he will power bark and stand directly in front of me, I practice kung fu and he has learned my grappling technique and applying to his play time! Best dog I have ever had! But all of my GSDs were that way! His commands are in Russian and spelling around him doesn't work anymore.

I have a Black GSD, he's the second one I've had, 1st one was when I was younger. They are extremely smart, dedicated, loyal, well behaved (if trained properly), protective, and loving.

Just had to put down my long haired balck GS. Best dog i have ever had, loved my three kids, and awsome for protection. Not that he had a mean bone in his body, unless you were a squirrel. Miss him so much.

I had a 115-pound MASSIVE all white GSD. He was very affectionate of our family, especially my baby sister. He was also extremely strong, very dog aggressive, and extremely suspicious of strangers. The only person he was submissive to my 4'11" mom, but other than that he feared no one. We got him when he was 3 years old from a GSD rescue organization. He also shed pretty bad, so we named him Blizzard. I used to have to fend off people trying to pet him without permission because I was concerned he'd go after them (which he did). Ears back, fangs out was how he greeted strangers. He also loved out 14 year old cat, who was in the house when we brought him home. She would snuggle with him (or kick him out of his bed) at will. Unfortunately, he died of a sudden heart attack when he was about 7 or 8 years old. The vet said, he was large for his breed, so she was not surprised. I'm glad he went suddenly and in prime health and didn't have to suffer declining health.

I had a black GSD named Shadow. The most loyal and protective dog I'd ever seen, worst breath also 😲. He died in the summer of 2000. I had him cremated and keep his ashes on the living room fireplace mantle. I miss him something awful.

i am so sorry for your loss. I had a BGS named Shadow as well. I learned to love my tall black handsome boy. Unfortunately, he got injured in a hit and run. I brought him to the ER, he survived but had to put him in a shelter as I was supposed to leave town unexpectedly because my mom was hospitalized. He was place in a shelter temporary. By the time I went back , they gave him away. It breaks my heart. In the meantime he had impregnated my daughter's mixed Terrier-Pit Bull who gave birth to 8 puppies among them 5 black just like my Shadow. Most of the puppies share his personality and are equally handsome. I will always miss my Shadow.

When a dog is dying long before depending on the cause their breath smells terrible. Both of my GS died of cancer. Their breath smelled about 4 months before they died.

My shepherd Thor is purebred black. But no one believes that he's purebred. "He has to be a mix". I known him his whole life and his breeder is my best friend

I too have a Black GSD who is a nice size. He is about 30inches at the shoulder and weighs 130 lbs. I've got plenty of compliments about him . He has a semi plush coat that very shiny. Some people look at his size an ask if heis wolf or wolf hybrid. He's a traffic stopper when l walk him. He was all black for probably 2yrs but he chg colors on his legs. They have lite gray and tan on them. He also has a little white patch in his chest. He was born with it and has not changed.

My German Shepherd is not all black. He's a Bi-color but he's a terrific dog . The color of a German Shepherd is of absolutely no consequence. Just like with people, skin or hair color make no difference. The value if a dog or a person is measured by what they have inside, their intelligence & their moral character. The vast majority of German Shepherds are loyal, courageous & very intelligent companions regardless of their hair color. Never let the color of any animal or person allow you to determine their value.

I got one as a puppy and has a lovely black cote for £500 and that was the same or under the amount for a dog it is also a pure bread which it just happened to be I was not looking for pure breed but she is calm and frendly with every one she meets.

I have a Black German Shepherd from Czech Republic, he is a wolf Shepherd and a sweet guy! But he doesn't put up with any aggression from people, his power bark will scare the hell out of anyone showing disrespect! His jaw pressure is the same as a male lion.

My current GSD is a 10 year old larger than life male whose mere presence is all it usually takes. People respect the look. BUT his favorite companions are...a 20 pound cockapoo and a small two year old little girl. He protects them both but is SO gentle in play! I Do call him the German Shedder...lol.

Our boy was raised with a Chihuahua for almost a year. Then came home with us and our 3 female frenchies. They love each other so much. Its great to see them play together. Hes such a great big brother. He also use to share his kibble bowl with my son who was 2 at the time. My son would stick his hand right in Geronimo's food dish while he was eating to share his food. lol kinda gross but I know this dog would never think of hurting his family. Best dog ever.

My black female named "Kenya" was bigger than any male I have ever seen. Intimidating barrel chest. God help anyone who she felt was a threat. On a leash she could pull you to the ground and drag you in a hot second. Fiercely loyal but very sweet. My mother was in a wheel chair and previously frightened by dogs. Kenya would give her special attention by putting her head in my mothers lap, look up and listen to whatever my mom was saying to her. We also had a silver, white and black shepherd named "Wolfgang"that was a genius. Same thing, Fearless when needed and loyal as hell. Unfortunately she was shot by a rancher and I still grieve 58 years later. Greatest dog ever.

It seems a tragedy that many German Shepards all seem to suffer from defects due to selective breeding.Pictures of German Shepards from 70,or 80 years ago would appear to have significantly differently angled rear legs than the breed has today .

That’s the show lines especially AKC. European working lines don’t have that extreme look. Also in European lines you can only breed dogs with certified hips. Dysplasia is not the problem that it used to be.

@@broskoone I agree .In the UK, and beyond there are unscrupulous breeders mainly known as "puppy farmers" who exploit many breeds of dogs purely for profit without any concern for the health or welfare of their animals.If you want a tearjerker please read The Power of a Dog ,and His Apologies , both by Rudyard Kipling ,they are on KZfaq.

I had Spirit fixed at 3 years of age. Him and his litter mates were all very large, he weighs 135 pounds, so do all of his make litter mates, the females weighs 110. No one wanted to breed with him. I asked for what a puppy. I would of loved to pass his genes on but to late now. He’s the best dog I’ve ever owned.

No, and you don't need to. You socialize the dog with other pets and they learn to respect each other boundaries. You don't " train it", just socialize.

There are actually 4 different colorizations other than the standard Black/gray or black/tan, these are the above mentioned black, white, Choclate (brown) and a black and cream (also often called cookies and cream). I realize there are many other variants, but of the "off colored GSD, these are the main ones that can pop up. I have never seen the black and cream or brown one, but have seen all blacks (had one when i was young) and a few white GSD's. i have always found the black ones to be very intelligent and fairly easy going bot a little hard headed at times. The white ones i've seen were somewhat skittishbut otherwise every bit as smart and playful (when they know you) as any other GSD. I do understand, how they were raised is just as important as anything else. These are my observations, from my experiences with them

I've a 7th month pure black german shepherd who comes from a mother sniffer dog, and father security dog I'm having awful trouble with her at present she is very aggressive to other dogs and people out running and literally barks at anything in my garden over night I'd like her to stop that pure aggression while I'm outdoors, any suggestions? Is this common? Any experiencing similar issue
