I find most Filipino's really don't know much about their independence. I live in the Philippines and I talk to the people about it. Funny thing is I tell them almost the same way. Explaining all the different times they became independent . Just like in america in school they never teach you about the american and Philippine war. I learn this from a good friend here. Then I had to do a lot of research on it.

Robert Maluka im obsessed to learn about phil-am war and philippines under america so i know a lot about it. Sadly, they almost never make it a bog deal here cause it may seem like america is a bad guy, just like japan and spain, and i think the higher ups dont want that.

John Doe uhh, it is...? Ilokanos played their parts during the phil. war for independence and phil-am war. Ilokanos tried to get rid of the spanish back in the 17th century. You can clearly see the spanish influence over the ilocos regions in vigan. my point is spain and america had control over not just the tagalogs, but also other linguistic groups.

I think we keep it quiet because our history is bloody and we don’t want to influence any hostility among our countries, and would rather influence peace, love, Unity, compassion, understanding, and friendship.

Mr. Araullo, I admire your demeanor. You present historical information without ranker or malice. I have had an interest in the history of the USA and Philippines for many years as there is a blood bond between our two countries. The largest singular military defeat ever suffered by the US military was under Gen. Douglas McArthur's command was in the Philippines during WW2. I've lived in your country for 7 years and learn something new every day but still ignorant of much of the Philippine history prior to WW2. Thank you for educating me.

My wife is Filipino and I am a white American. Why are land titles in the Philippines still written on paperwork by the US government. My wives father showed me the deed to his property and to my surprise it was written in bold letters at the top saying US Government Title. I think you’re a brilliant teacher and want to understand this. Thank you

It never ceases to amaze me that my country fought a bloody revolutionary war to gain freedom from the tyranny of King George III of England. Then we, the USA, which was colonized by England, did much the same in the Philippines. I thought we were supposed to learn from history and not repeat the same mistakes.

I hope one day the Philippines will join again in the USA because after we did Independent in 1946 our currency was $1=1php. The problem now a days is the Corruption of Filipino Politicians they become billionaire after the Independent of the Philippines while 80% of Filipino become poor we don't have free medication and we have small salary per day $10 and very small pention when we get our retirement age. The Independent of the Philippines is for the corrupt politicians only they use poor Filipinos to remove Americans in our Country. It is a totally big mistake to have an Independent from the USA especially for ordinary Filipinos Now our currency is $1 to 56 php. Most poor Filipinos try our best to have a better and productive life most of us work in other countries abroad to have better salaries and some of us become successful but the problem is when we come back again in the Philippines we don't have jobs because we are getting old abroad. Some poor Filipinos work in the Philippines until they get old for $150 to $300 per month , Sad but true .

independence day was never really for the people.. it was for few ppol who wanted to rule the country... look where we are now VS Hawaii? its actually non comparable... ppl ruling us now are either spanish or chinese descendants... businesses around the country are owned by these group of families who have for generations brainwashed filipinos into believing we are truly free... the real filipinos are identified as "indigenous tribes"... in current reality, if you are to choose between working for a US based VS 100% filipino owned company, the conditions on these US based companies are far better & more humane than fckin pinoy owned... its sad but thats how things are & it will never change... i remember as a kid, peso rate wasnt too far from US$... but as numerous spanish descendant presidents rule this country, they have submerged us into gazillions of debts while enriching their family's bottomless wealth... if i only can turn back time, i'll probably would have sacrificed my freedom under a US regime to secure a better future for our kids these days... things will not be perfect but is surely better than where things are now in PH... Duterte is great but a single man cant change the injustice happening in Pinas... it begs the question "is June 12 really an independence day or just a stupid revolutionary act that wasnt really followed through to benefit pinoys in the long run?"... i personally think, its BS & never have benefited poor Juan dela Cruz :(

Sad to say but your right. I’ve heard it said the he Philippines is mostly owned by one or two families. Some of things Du30 has done are great but some things he has done are too horrifying and tragic. Hopefully life will get better for Filipinos.

The true Philippine independence day is July 4, 1946 not June 12, 1898🤔‼️

2:46 you're using these sarcastic quotations, but, it's reality the US did grant it. That's merely how war/the world works. Not like if the US didn't want to grant it would the Philippines be able to do anything about it... the disparity in strength by WW2 era was greater than the disparity between the Philippines and Spain prior. I struggle to consider the US colonizers of the Philippines, when the most meaningful aspect of their rule was the purchase and release of it. Imagine buying the Philippines and then relinquishing control. More altruistic than colonialistic. The 1962 independence day switch by Diosdado Macapagal is merely pageantry and a symbolic statement, but it's not like if the US didn't already grant independence would any of it matter. It's always funny when people have this viewpoint, and somehow are more favorable to Spain/claiming and exaggerating Spanish decent or sucking up to Japanese, who were both actually colonizing forces.
