In this video I share 8 top tips for beginner drivers who are learning to drive on faster roads which will include driving on dual and single carriageways, slip roads and much more.
My 8 top tips are in the following order;
1) Slip roads and looking early - adjusting speed to suit that of the moving traffic on the carriageway.
2) Anticipation - don't be in the wrong place at the right time.
3) Timing - when to move back to the normal driving lane after overtaking.
4) Having a sideways glance - how and why we should consider a sideways glance before changing lanes.
5) Justify your lane choice - ALWAYS!
6) Forward Planning - be one step ahead of the rest.
7) Escape route - what's this and how can it make driving safer?
8) Fast approach to a roundabout at 70mph

Go2 Driving School Hi matt , I am very confused when u said brakes to slow gears to go because when I drive on dual carriage way for instance wen i approach roundabout so im decreasing spped from 50 mph to appropriate speed. So i will currentyly be in 5th gear and I break then change to4th then break again to change to 3rd is it better to skip the gear change then e.g from 5th gear 50 mph i just break to appropiate spped e.g 20 mph n then put it in 3rd gear?

Hello! Passed my driving test first time, didn't expect to do so considering my instructor wasn't that great - to list a few annoyances: texting on her phone while I'm driving, had little to say/not as informative, expecting me to read her mind and if I didn't ask a question she would not have bothered to explain. Also, the woman came w/ negative energy, I found that I was nervous most days behind the wheel with her there, she leaves one thinking they're doing things wrong. It's crazy how much a difference it makes to have a calm and positive instructor (luckily my examiner was exactly so). Thank God for youtube though.. I still always come back to your videos, they're extremely helpful!

I’ve got a driving test tomorrow, I’ve already failed it three times, always on cutting in front of other drivers on dual carriageways or staying in the right lane for too long but with your instructions I hope I pass 🤞, wish me luck.

I've been on the dual carriageway for the very first time yesterday and I didn't freak out as my driving test is in 2.5 months. I stayed on one lane (left) and did about 44mph, but I do know that for a national speed limit on a Dual Carriageway the speed is supposed to be around 50-55mph. I think I will go on it again on Tuesday, but I'm just looking at DC videos just to give me an idea of when to overtake etc.. I'm enjoying my driving lessons and I'm preparing for my test as there's 18 test routes around where I live.

I failed my driving my driving test last Friday due to overtaking a parked vehicle on my side of the road and making a car coming the other way slow down by about 5mph I thought this was a harsh major considering I only had 3 minors and there was 4 mins left of the test what do you think ???

What do I do If don’t have a lot of room to get the speed going to merge? Some people are decent to move over from the left lanes but some don’t. I go up like a little hill from a roundabout then I get my speed to about 50 but like I said it’s not much road ahead to wait for a cap :( any advice?

Hi I passed my test a couple of weeks ago, one thing I never really covered was driving on country roads and B roads. Have you got any pointers and tips for these? I know they are generally 60mph national speed limit but anything over 40 feels to fast I've been going around 40mph but either end up with a que of traffic behind me or people over taking which causes it's own issues... also could I suggest you make some more videos for people who have just passed. What to expect and what to to in situations not covered in the test ect. Great resource by the way, defininately helped me pass my test, cheers

SoulJah Matthew Driving on B roads are esay. You just need to read the road and use the gears when needed. ie when going around corners.

Hiya, thank you for your fantastic videos. They’ve been helping me as a mature learner alongside my lessons 👍🏼 my question is when we check our mirrors to merge onto a carriageway or change lanes my instructor tells me not to glance over to right and just use mirrors, yet every video on here says to glance over. Is it compulsory?
@Go2DrivingSchool
@Go2DrivingSchool 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Anita, it's a really great question. It's not always necessary and more advanced driver should be able to tell when it is and isn't. Some of the examples here in this video wasn't necessary when moving back to the left. I'm in the habit of always checking as I feel that when I teach this, because I'm not with a learner long enough, I don't have the time to be able to get them to a point where they would be able to judge? I've actually never tried though so thank you for making me think! - I do actually get learners to judge when to signal to move off and stop right from the off so why not? Couple of things to add... When having a sideways glance, it is just that and not a shoulder check. Some mirrors show blindspots, some mirrors have blind spot mirrors stuck on them. Hope this helps!

I have a question, my instructor is telling me I have to drop down to 1st while braking before a junction (while moving) this car just won’t go slow enough in second about 7mph is the lowest I have gotten it before it try’s to stall. Everyone I have asked says stay in second. So what I’m doing now to avoid hesitation is brake then clutch drop to 1st while braking and clutch if I see it’s clear then do the biting point while moving. This I think avoids the weird jolt thing the car does for being to fast. The problem with this is I can accidentally over rev it be putting to much gas as I go round the corner. If you could like me to a video where it shows me how to keep that car moving at a junction that would be great or explain it to me. Thanks
@storm9100
@storm9100 5 жыл бұрын
Mectrex how you’re doing it is fine, to avoid revving the engine too much while turning, you can change to 2nd when approaching. Most instructors tell you o change to 1st because they want you to always stop but you don’t really need to
@storm9100
@storm9100 5 жыл бұрын
Mectrex you could change to 2nd while you’re rounding the corner i guess
@storm9100
@storm9100 5 жыл бұрын
Mectrex The weird jolt thing is because the car is trying to speed back up to the normal speed for 2nd gear, if you’re going to drop below this speed, then change to first.

My instructor basically told me that they'll pass 3 max out of 8 a day at my local test centre. How bad is that?! The problem is that if they exceed the average pass rate for the test centre, they may be inspected for negligence, so they try to stick to the average. The game is bent.
