It's an m1 organ sample and then drops with Reese bass. It's clear that's H20 and platinum's "what's it gonna be" was the reference there. (Well that and a hundred other speed garage tracks of the 90s) I have covered organ bass before, if you don't know how to make a Reese just turn up the unison on a filtered saw!

@Bthelick
@Bthelick Күн бұрын
I think it comes down to a few factors. - 1st get an ear for the basic waveforms. (Not what comes in modern synths ) I talk about this in the Night Blooming Jasmin Video , kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebegepuDsrS6qXk.htmlsi=_eYfRTsAJw7e-I6D - 2nd know what synths are capable of so you can detect that in other sounds. (Check out either of my synth tutorials) - 3rd likewise, get used to listening for what real sounds are, and which cannot be synthesized (by typical methods), like guitars , flute, mallet, etc etc. 4th try to develop an ear for the difference between tonal content and noise. All sound is made up a fairly predictable harmonic series of pitched tones, sometimes combined with an element of undetectable pitch, or noise. If you can spot this it can help you recreate sounds easier. I can't think of any others but I didn't go through any formal method or training, it just comes with time like all music skill. Putting in the hours trying to recreate your favourite tracks will get you there eventually. Know that your early attempts won't be great but failing is a bigger lesson usually so be humbled and keep moving on to new attempts you'll get there.

Legend, I should have known its "808s" and house. although what you call house sounds like funk to me rather, but that's perhaps explained by the writing part :)
@fradav68
@fradav68 2 ай бұрын
Great stuff as always, thank you! Question: I see lot of attention given to length of kick and can hear/feel difference when you shorten it from e.g. 800 ms to 250 ms..from thump to click. But not much attention to length of bass notes. Should there be a difference in note length for the 40-60Hz (thump) notes vs the 80-120 (tone)?
@Bthelick
@Bthelick 2 ай бұрын
The 2 interact, so shorter kicks allow for longer bass notes. But the decision is a groove one, not length per frequency. It should be based on how you want the listener to dance! I have observed garage, like drum n bass tends to have shorter kicks that sit above the bass frequency wise, making the bass the lowest element. It's normally the other way round for house/ techno etc. Makes sense, it is a 'bass music' genre

its a sample from many a jungle track it comes from a "dub siren". they were home made devices that acted as hype noises in Dub & Jamaican sound system culture. basically a single osc synth with pitch permanently tied to an lfo. I don't actually know the name of the sample or where it's from, I remade this one in vital, I'll give it away in the garage keys video coming up 👊
