I got a solar water heating coil rigged up to help warm shower and dishwashing water. I will try and see how hot I can get the water on the next sunny day. For today was a test run and all went good! I also answer some questions people have regarding what tent I'm using, the stove jack, and woodstove, and a few other odds n ends. Oh, I make a chili as well.

Ok, I just discovered Steve 3 days ago with the newer 'Stealth in a Roundabout' video, I binged the stealth vids for 2 days (no really - 48 hours straight, I had severe alcohol withdrawals and sleep was not an option) and decided to go all the way back to video 1 and work up one after the other. Every vid gives me a mild "HEH" at least a few times, Steve has a very subtle sense of humor. But the kidney bean "murder scene" had me truly laughing out loud each time he says it. I wish we could have seen it.

Hi Steve I've just found this video and seeing as it's nearly 2 years old now I'm not sure how much of your solar heater you've changed but I noticed where you can improve its efficiency, the pipework inside the chamber I noticed goes round in a spiral. 1,Try having the pipe so it works from the bottom to the top, it might be hard bending the pipe through 180° at each end but the warm water wants to naturally rise 2, install pipe lagging on the feed and return. 3, make a insulated jacket for your header tank,( maybe move it inside the tent) and keep it off the cold floor ?? I'm no expert but have installed a few Ground source heating units in private houses so have a good idea how they work. Love your vids bud, no nonsense or bullshit just a genuine guy doing what he loves 🤘

Some wood stoves have piping in them for water heating. Might be a fun project to add to your stove. It'd probably be safer not to run a shower directly via the stove though. Recirculate the water through the stove to a reservoir.

The solar water heaters definitely work....My off grid place came with 2- 4x8 panels....I don't have them hooked up but when I drained them the antifreeze was scalding hot.... The antifreeze was circulated in copper pipes that went into a hot water tank, that heated the water....Great vid...

Hey Steve .... always love your videos. I have seen several winter ice fishing tents available on amazon.ca. One or two have insulated options which I would strongly recommend. I am also looking at the ShiftPod which is very much like your tent except it has a zip in floor, is fully insulated, has zipin/out windows/screens, stove pipe jack, dark walls for a better sleep in the summertime and reflective coating to reflect light and heat in summer -- is considered a shelter in hot or cold weather conditions. It is an American product and they have just started shipping to Canada. Looking at the Shiftpod 2 which is 12'9" corner to corner hexigon , 6.6 ft. high at center Cost is $1,499 US dollars ... so it is not cheap. I will be setting it up at my brother's cottage as a separate space for me during the summer and we hop to set it up inside the cottage during a winter venture (makes an easily heated space) using the cottage walls and roof as a wind break. Might also look at getting a Crua Duo Max cocoon winter tent to put inside the Shiftpod for sleeping -- really warm. I will subscribe Steve. Keep your camping videos coming please. Thanks mary

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned in the comments but the water you're warming outside, you're losing a lot if not most of the heat the panel generates because you're using a pot with no insulation. You could also run a copper pipe through your stove.

Love the video Steve! I am curious to know if you got the setup running any better for your tent? You can try running copper piping around your stove exhaust or around/inside the stove itself somehow... Get you a nice hot circulation that way too! I just recently built my own hot tent stove from a 5 quart canning pot stainless steel. it gets quite hot!! I don't know how long it'll last, but it was sure fun making it! It could heat my small trailer that I actually live in, for sure... Albeit would be a pain in the ass!..lol. But I want to explore the solar version as you have and see where it leads me. My buddy has one of those hot water heaters but it is big enough to cover one side of his roof, facing south. Hot water all summer for the apartment sinks, bath, clothes washer/workshop and some outdoor showers, up to like 180 degrees Fahrenheit. On sunny winter days, it performs just as well, and not too bad even on somewhat overcast days. The rest he takes care of with the wood stove and electric.

Steve, try Brooks Chili Beans. I like the flavor of the sauce. You can use ketchup, too. Combine it with your seasoning packet.

You just need to wrap copper tubing around the stovepipe to make a hot water heater.

If anyone is interested in that style of shelter there are several made under different manufactures like Eskimo, Clam, Shappell and Frabil. Just type in any of those names followed by "ice shanty" and take your pic. Steve some of them are made of a heavier material and are also more rain resilient than the Rapala. Just FYI

Thanks for the info! Good to know for when I need to replace this old battle axe. Impressed how well it's held up over the years though.

To all that see this comment, go check out the documentary he did on boondocking. Such a great video, could easily be on tv or Netflix!
