Crazy day! Category 1 hurricane winds and only 5 more mph to a category 2. Living in S Louisiana I can relate. It’s always the same walk after with bulging eyes to see what damage has been done. I’m worried that this year will be bad. There are currently 2 storms forming right now in the gulf. It got really hot early this year. Water is warming up fast. Glad y’all made it through.

You guys need to figure out a better solution for both the stack pack, one fifty sail and the solar panels. One more storm like that and those panels are going to be done and your electric motor will be useless. You need an engine that is both diesel and electric (a hybrid if you will) that is more dependable in case of emergency. It might not the solution you want, but it is a solution that at some point may save your lives. Food for thought

I do however have a few options to work with, I have solar, wind generator, gas generator, alternator, 2 seperate battery banks, a jackery with 400 watts of solar, and the ever important sailrite sewing machine. I am so looking forward to getting out there. I am happy to hear the anchor held, I believe you said you have a rocna 55 lb. If so, I have the same anchor with a boat with similar weight and length as you, so hopefully I will be fine in that sense. Keep the videos coming.

Couple of fun days😮 Nice job on the sail repair. I was just using my speedy stitcher today for the first time in a few years - miracle tool for sure. When do most folks leave the Bahamas for hurricane season? I am currently running north up the Gulf of California to get out of the hurricane zone here. The chubascos (storms like the one you experienced with 80kts) will start up soon. The drill is to prepare for one every night, although one may get through the summer without getting nailed. The ensuing 'garage sales' in the mornings after they wreak havoc are fueled by folks that didn't fully prepare, lash down all there shit, etc... Great video!

I'm happy to see you two handle that storm with minor damage and able to get to a safer anchorage. I was happy to see Beau use those rubber grommets to prevent any more aluminum/steel corrosion having experienced that in my manufacturing days and surprisingly with truck air-conditioning connections where someone forgot to put the rubber gasket back in between two of those metals and caused loss of refrigerant.Brandy, I've used that speedy stitch tool on leather and next time you make back to the States, take shopping trip to a leather store 'Leathermaster?'(been so long I've forgotten the name) But if you go there as about 'palm protectors', which will slide over your thumb with extra padding in the are of the base of your thumb (think it's termed Mound of Venus), get both right and left so that both hands are protected. Mind you I hope that you never have to do those types of repairs again, but just incase. Fair winds and gentle waves you two.🥰

When I tested the one panel is went it first registered a voltage but then was volts then no volts back and forth. I have to look into what is actually supposed to meter and if its a constant with little fluxation depending on the light its seeing. Better a sail than a mast. Hopefully the anchorage stayed relatively flat. I often wonder how much my solar panels frames can take. After seeing this I think I'm going to double up on the frame, good idea with the rubber grommets. I've found the white umhw type plastic ones hold up really well also, a little less wiggle also.

Solar is tough. There are new flexible solar panels including one technology they are looking to make sails from. By the way get yourself regen from your sailing. Others that are doing that see more generation from being under sail than from their Solar.

the issue is, we need most of our power at anchor thats why we decided to do the panels like this. we have to sail 7 knots sustained to bring in a good regen on our motor.

Why drill new holes in the stainless tubing? Could you simply move the panel a few inches and drill new holes in the aluminum frame to line up with the existing holes in the tubing? Get some Tefgel too.

actually ended up remodifying to have the lines go straight to the frame itself. but unfortunately couldn't have relocated the bar, bc we have a bar that comes up between the two to lock them in for extra security under passage. we had to keep them in the same place.
