How do you read Pitman's shorthand written in pen? Don't you need pencil or a special fountain pen to distinguish voiced and unvoiced consonants (T,D, P, B, F,V, etc) with light and dark strokes?

No. At beginner's stage, we need pencil or fountain pen etc to read and distinguish between light and dark stroke but at advance stage, we don't need them to be reflected by pen, pencil or fountain pen. Apart from it, most of our outlines become smaller and smaller than outlines at beginner's level.Thank you.

@@ShorthandDictationLegalMatters Thank you for explaining that. I noticed a few Pitman's shorthand writers on KZfaq were using pen. I studied Gregg shorthand where B and P look a bit like (, B being twice as long as P. I used to know someone who took notes in Pitman's shorthand in pen, but she said she pushed harder for B, less hard for P, and so on (ballpoint pen).

I am a SSC panelist for Passage Reader. The passage should be read in a rhythm with a sense, not mechanical. Where is the pause for foolstop.

We don't know who you are but we would like to inform you that most of the dictations have been prepared keeping in view pause for comma, full stop and paragraphs but some of the dictations have been prepared without keeping aforementioned facts in view as there is not only SSC which is giving government employment or the dictations are given in India in SSC pattern only. Apart from it, if you have experience of numerous students who appeared in numerous skill tests organized by different departments, then you statements would have been true. Thanks for comment. As I have already mentioned, I am a passage reader in SSC Panel. I took the dictation in stenography, foolstop pause should be distinct, no fumbling in utterance, clarity in word. Speed was good and uniform.

'or' is pronounced as 'are' in the dictation. Maybe it's an accent but it gets confusing.

1. Regular Practice (1500 words as seen and 1500 words as unseen) 2. Immediately after taking dictation, type on a computer and check your mistakes. 3.Read outlines every day just before sleeping and after waking up of the chapters provided daily. 4. Have patience. 5. Make a circle of friends who are preparing for it and prepare together.
