@@johnrobertson7583 I don't really remember what other movies he's been in since he rarely had big roles. He was the beggar who sold Stephen Chow the Kung Fu manuals in Kung Fu Hustle. afaik those were from hong kong, the modern ones are from "mainland" china subtle difference, but it also explain why they were often more lighthearted and focused more on the "dance" part of kung fu my fav one is Chinese Odyssey featuring Stephen Chow

I think it is meant to symbolize his respect for the temple/sacred grounds, and also emphasize his position as a enlightened monk. He probably could blow all the leaf and dust away in matter of minutes. To use his powers would be to "cheat". To cheat would mean not giving the temple the time that it deserves. If he would cheat, just because he can, that would be disrespectful to the place he regards with great value and respect. And, to use his his powers for trivial tasks would make the accomplishment of said task meaningless, and set a precedent of further trivial uses of his power. Eventually making him distant to the challenges of life and thus making his existence empty and meaningless. Common character development method, have the strong be virtuous by not exploiting their gifts.

Empty of thoughts-made-self. One person only thought about avenging his wife. The other person only thought about getting back his throne. They’re all just thoughts, Passing like water bubble after the rain. Here one moment, gone the next. Not permanent and therefore cannot not real. When they died temporarily their thoughts died with them. Therefore they realized that they just wasted 30 years followed empty thoughts-made-self. Enlightenment is to wake up from this empty thoughts-made-self and discover the real awareness (Buddha nature) that was always been with them all along. Just being is good enough!
