How’s this for a drag race line-up! Mat’s got his hands on the Audi RS5, and it’s lining up against… A Honda Civic Wagovan?!
That’s right, we’ve got an Audi RS facing off against a Honda Civic wagon! But trust us, this is no normal Honda Civic…
So let’s see how the two cars compare. Starting with the Audi RS5, it’s powered by a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 that can produce 450hp and 600Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and the car weighs in at 1,707kg. If you want to pick one up now, it will set you back around £76,000.
Then we come on to the Civic. The base car came with a 2.4-litre engine under the bonnet. But of course, it’s had a number of mods added to it, and it now puts out an eye-watering 834hp and 817Nm of torque! Power is sent to all four wheels via a sequential gearbox, and it’s super light, weighing in at just 1,100kg!
So the Honda has way more power, but is it any match for Audi’s Quattro AWD system? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

In a highly boosted Honda, you need to bounce it off the rev limiter until you reach a certain speed, so when you shift, it will stay on boost. Shortshifting will kill the performance.....

If you don't shortshift that thing it will perform worse due to tire spin. The shortshifting is done to reduce spin. The car has too much power with not enough grip.

This is a perfect illustration on power band. You might high higher peak torque towards redline with a huge turbo, but the effective power band is extremely narrow due to torque being non-existent virtually anywhere else.

I've imported a "500WHP" boosted 350Z from the USA once, it made 370hp at the crank on our european dyno with horrible torque and power curves. It was well put together using quality parts, but the tune was really poor. A proper tuner managed to squeeze 550BHP out of it. I've sold the car two months after because it had absolutely no traction 😂. From my and my friends experience tuned cars from the USA are almost always really poorly tuned, have troubles with starting when cold, are jerky on partial throttle, misfire etc. Really weird tuning culture, most of the tuners in my country do a "street tuning session" after dyno tuning to ensure that the car works well on partial throttle etc, so even on a standalone ECU they are able to make the car work pretty much like a stock one.

That crazy civic has a really small power band, it's not spending much time in the power band in the lower gears making it slower than its power figure would suggest, also probably got boost by gear to stop it spinning up.

I thought i recognized that car built by Bisi. He had it on Jay Leno's Garage some time ago. Interestingly, his 1000?hp honda odyssey van was last place in racing lower powered cars in that Netflix series Fastest Car a few years ago. Big numbers aren't everything in actual racing. But definitely interesting and cool builds by him.

Coming from a prior owner of a swapped civic hatchback, there’s a point where the power is too great for the civic…4WD or not. At 800hp, that car MUST have slicks to be able to utilize that kind of power. Like someone else said, you also have to allow the car to bounce on the rev limiter to eliminate as much boost lag as possible. Great video! Honda4Lyfe!!

Like other already commented, you cant short shift this car, need to ride on the limiter until the wheels stop spinning so the speed of the car matches the gearing. Then you would get on boost quicker next gear.

@johnjerrehian4642 yes he's a pro driver, but maybe not accustomed to a high hp fwd car. You litterly have bang it off the limiter for a couple seconds, and just embrace the wheel spin. Once your cars actual mph goes a little higher, your next shift will be a little higher in the PowerBand. Was kinda sad to see, but that driver normally does a phenomenal job!! Cheers

@@questionableprojects the civic is literally an AWD, there's just no traction and too much power for those tires combined with relatively stock gearing which aren't close ratio.

The rs3 8Y in USA come with completely different camshafts than the ones in Europe.

Thank you MAT . I am always happy to see an RS5 . My dream car is the RS5 with the V8 4.2 liters and 450 hp . The mini HONDA dragster is a nightmare . Almost impossible to drive it.

Sam just wasn’t driving it properly. He’s shifting when it hits the limiter but the problem is he’s not actually going that speed so when he changes gear it then bogs down. You have to change gear when you’re actually going the speed it says on the Speedo and not just because it’s spun the tyres. It’s not Sam’s fault as he wouldn’t be used to these kind of cars or driving in this way.

The thing with these cars is that they need their driver that knows and built em. A stock rs m something can be driven by anyone ... that thing without somebody knowing it's shift points etc wont do a thing. Even with Sam atthe wheel.
