About The Royal Tailor 상의원 (2014):
The Queen burnt the King's clothing by mistake. She asks Dol-seok, the royal head tailor, to make a set of clothing, but he says he cannot complete the work in a day. Then, Pan-soo, the Queen's servant, recommends Gong-jin, a renowned tailor in the capital, who makes the clothing in time. Both the Queen and the King likes his work, and Gong-jin becomes the royal tailor. Dol-seok doesn't like Gong-jin at first, but he gradually understands his principles and even envy his talent a little. The Prime Minister, who plots to replace the Queen, recommends the daughter of his ally as a concubine, and orders Dol-seok to make a splendid party clothing for her. The Queen saddens that she is in danger of being dethroned, and Gong-jin swears her to present a gorgeous dress that makes her stand out. Dol-seok tries to dissuade him, but Gong-jin is so determined.

I used to think that who you are is what matters and not what you wear or how present yourself. But this movie, especially this scene right here, made me realize that it's not just who you are that's important but it's also how you present yourself that matters. Here in the movie, everybody knows she is the Queen of the Kingdom but it wasn't enough until she wore that gorgeous dress that didn't do much except show who she was to others. The dress radiated her grace, elegance and also power. She didn't even have to utter a word, the dress spoke for her... and it made them bow for her... stunned by her beauty, elegance and magnificence.

As a Korean, I think it is a very good movie. And it is a very grateful movie in that it showed the beauty of hanbok without exaggeration. Not only the hanbok worn by the queen, but also the hanbok from this movie are all very beautiful. But the queen's hanbok makes me speechless. This is because the queen's attire clearly shows what hanbok is. "Fancy but not excessive" is the true beauty of hanbok.

Park Shin Hye is perfect for the scene. Beautiful, serene, elegant beyond belief. She's flashy but in the most regal way possible. I didn't watch the drama because the end is not to my satisfaction and I loathe the king, but I watch this scene 1000 times easy.

If I remember correctly, the tailor came from a poor background and the one working with the concubine uses his status to take the design and pass it off as his.

A significant part here was also shown wherein in previous parts, it was mentioned that Lady Soyi was intended to be introduced as Queen to the Qing envoys instead of the real main wife and according to the rules, those who can wear the royal crest on their clothes are the royal family, which doesn't include secondary consorts and concubines. Hence, Lady Soyi wearing the royal crest on her ceremonial outfit was disrespectful to the Queen, who is a member of the royal family as the King's main wife.

Korea was then a vassal of China. As such the King of Korea naturally bowed to Emperor of China. As for the Chinese delegates, they bowed as a mark of respect to the Queen of Korea. Do remember that should King of Korea meet the Emperor of China, the King must " kkwtow" to the Emperor

No, you are wrong. This is because Korea and Qing dynasty were defeated in a war. And at that time, there was no country called China. Many countries were defeated by the Qing Dynasty The Uyghur countries were incorporated into the Qing Dynasty, and Korea was not to that extent. Korea was also defeated in the war with the Qing Dynasty, but the country was able to survive. And that movie is dramatic, not real history. History and fiction must be distinguished. The Korean royal family could not be reckless even by the Qing dynasty emperor. The Qing Dynasty Manchus and Koreans are the same Dong Yi ethnic group.

I love how they portray the scene here. With his mistress, he gets a nod from the envoys. But with his queen, he gets a bow from them. If you think about it, the king bows his head towards the envoys as to not provoke them. But the envoys bowed to his queen as a show of respect and reverence. And the queen bows to her husband, the king. Its a great show of a power play here. The queen just earned her title and recognition. That's why in the end, the king nor the officials can't overthrow and replace her with the mistress even if they wanted to.

I don't agree, I think the lavender dress was equally stunning, the cut made more her gorgeous figure than the white dress. It was just the less humble way she walked in, I guess that's how she was meant to act. But the colour and embellishments of the lilac dress were gorgeous.

If soyi's dress was stunning and beautiful, then the queen's dress was ethereal and other-worldly. If mistress soyi looked like the queen, the queen herself, the moment she entered, looked like the goddess. It was the expressions on the royal tailor's face; disbelief, awe, amazement, then anger and hate as he realized the other tailor was responsible for the queen's dress, while the humble tailor only has his eyes on the queen with such loyalty and adoration... This scene is brilliant; showcasing everything that happened with only a few dialogues. The actors are so talented!

This movie broke my heart and Beep Beep me off at the same time. I felt so much sorrow for the Queen and what she had to endure. The King to me was weak and simple minded. The Queen should’ve been willing to runaway with the Tailor. Both would’ve had a much better life together. Sad ending.

I'll continue 2 come 2 this scene just because of how well done it was. It was beautiful, smooth & majestic. This scene is an epitome of visual storytelling. -The music that creates a sense of grand royalty, the flute part at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="320">5:20</a> is probably my fav as it is a cue 2 the 2 falling in love again. -The cinematography and the great use of lingering shots to show the characters reaction, view points & much more. -YoonSeok & ShinHye's glance between each other is such a great way of telling things with simply facial acting. He looks victorious & has a breath of relaxation. He looks at her & she realizes he's happy. He has as slight nod & she breaks out a smirk of victory herself. This smirk turns into confidence & the 2 hae rekindled their relationship. -The directing as well, bcuz there are so many little details that would b lost if the director didn't put it together well & create such a grand moment.

It's not me who said it, it's herself who said it. Charles behaved like the ultimate bastard. Not only did he not hide when he cheated on her, but he also didn't care about her suffering. It was not unusual for him to travel with Camilla. (she of course traveled in secret). Or that he left a reception where he was two to go to his mistress (and he did not even hide it). Even better, he sometimes wore a gift from Camilla to an official ceremony and Diana knew that the gift was from her. Read the writings of her bibliographer. One of the princes was ill, she asked to call Charles, and it turned out that he was at his mistress' house. The worst thing is that she had no support from anyone. @@blackbangtan8943 I've watched some videos of this before, I think the King killed the tailor who made the dress for her highness the Queen because of his jealousy. The tailor back then was accused and the Queen defended her from the King showing him some evidences however the King won't even listen to the Queen and decided to punish the tailor by killing him.

@@blackbangtan8943 if my memory serves me right, he was also framed by the royal tailor since he took it by heart that he was defeated over and over. This together with the king's jealousy (upon realizing that the tailor and the queen seem to have some romantic connection)Although, in truth, the queen and the tailor never acted on their feelings and were just showing them subtly. It was just unfortunate that the king really liked the queen in the beginning but because of the king's brother (an equal asshole), he ceased showing his affection towards the queen. When the king was finally ready to give her queen some attention, that was when his jealousy took over and gave a death sentence to the tailor. The queen, since then just remained in her chamber, inconsolable. Meanwhile, the royal tailor remained in his position but unneeded and unwanted whilst all around him were the common people sporting the dead tailor's designs.

Is he really Yeongjo, not just pure fictional king? Because some people said that prime minister wanna dethroned that queen and make that concubine a new queen. In history, concubine can't became a queen from Sukjong era.

@@keizelharf5393 I read about dongyi(choi suk bin) first, she's yeoning/yeongjo mother then I stumbled upon about yeongjo's story. I read all about him, from his childhood until how he become a King and his queen and concubines. I read this at wikipedia and yes I found that his first queen is Queen Jeongseong is play by Park Shin Hye in this drama. In drama Haechi(2019), the character of Queen Jeongseong played by Choi Soo Im. For the character of the king, I've check and yes it's yeongjo but I can be wrong because I use wikipedia as my source. If anything are not true, please correct me because this is korean history which is I'm not expert. I do this reading and watch many drama like this because I like to know their history. 😄😄
