I have really enjoyed these shoes and so far they have been great after logging about 300 miles in them or so. Very robust and durable for the weight. I have also find them to be comfortable and supportive. They have been my favorite pair of hiking shoes so far and an upgrade over the 3’s. They did cause me some wear around my ankles but it took quite a bit of mileage to make that happen.
I like to play with different pieces of gear so I am sure I will mix up my shoes again soon so I can compare and contrast against different shoes.

Had mine 5 days now and there’s significant wear on the heal on both shoes , just less than 20 miles

I tend to be a heel striker and mine has what I would consider an acceptable amount of wear on the heel after several hundred miles. I must admit I didn’t check it after the first set of miles so maybe the top rubber on the soles wear down quicker? Has anyone else noticed this as an issue?

My 3's fell apart in 6 months, separated from sole...But Salomon stood by their word and gave me a credit for a new pair.. I ordered the 4's to see how they work.

It’s always awesome when good manufacturers stand by their products. The five’s are coming out in March and I am going to grab a pair of them then to check them out. Also going to get the Hoka Speedgoat 6’s so I can compare them

Shoes so comfortable that you have to tape your feet so they don't rub your ankles to the bone. Top job Salomon.

Haha, yeah that seems to be the most popular flaw. I will say other than that they are pretty durable shoes that can take a beating

I think the quality is going down hill since series 2. The best was series 2. 3s were terrible. Couldn’t find series 2 anymore. I think I must go with this new ones then.

I only had the 3’s so I can’t compare to the 2’s. I had a pair of oboz before I got my 3’s and I liked the 3’s slightly more than the oboz because of the shoe ties where slightly better. I like my 4’s the best so far

I use this for everyday use only, for style actually it looks cool, its a tank of a shoes.

They are tanks. When I bought them I wanted to only use them hiking to make them last longer but I liked them so much that they became my hiking and everyday use shoes. It’s hard to beat the simplicity of the quick lace system. I am going to do a final follow up on them soon

What happens if the laces of the shoes are cut? Can these be bought somewhere or does salomon fix it for free? By the way salomon cross hike 2... is it ortholite? What do you think about that shoe?

Boy I have no idea on the shoe laces if they need replacement. They are made out of some kind of wire material so it’s hard to imagine they would be east to break. I have had mine for well over 500 miles and no issues. I haven’t looked into the Salomon cross hikes or tried them out so I can’t really speak to those…

I wish I've ordered the wide version. The sole is really narrow for me on the arch of my foot but it's not uncomfortable. I have the non gtx version and it's really breathable. How do you feel them in your foot arch?

I don’t notice any arch issues at all in mine. I wish I had a pair of the non gtx to compare against my gtx pair but I am happy with mine.

I was thinking about this and I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone in the hiking world complain Their shoes are too wide. By the time you put on wool socks maybe it’s always best to move to wide if there is any doubt. I always get wide and have never thought “these are too wide.” Just another thought to the above.

@@Acenis I know you said your were too narrow. I am thinking it’s always wise to go wider if In doubt because I never hear people complaining that their shoes are too wide, only that their shoes were too narrow like yours were.

Ah I understand. But who knew I needed to order a special "wide" version and it's stupid that it even has to exist for this model. I used their size guidelines for "standard fit" foryears and never had a problem. I have to order online because there is no salomon retailer near me.

I'm an 11.5 to 12.. what do you think i should get. I can pick up an 11.5 Ultra x 4 monument for around 80 almost new .

I’m in the same range and I have twelves and they are fine with my socks on but I think I could have gone with the 11.5 and been just fine. The quick ties for the shoe laces make it so easy to adjust for your feet that i think a tighter fit would have kept my feet from sliding a little more

Is the non gtx worth buying?

I’m not sure, from what I have read they air out a lot better, ventilate better, keep your feet cooler, dry faster, and are also slightly lighter. The trade off is the lack of the waterproofing membrane that the gortex provides. I have a pair of non gortex (gtx) shoes that I use if I don’t anticipate any water. You catch a lot of moisture if you get up early to hike from the condensation on grass and plants you walk through and I find the the gortex does a great job in those situation for not letting my feet get soaked first thing in the day.
