Welcome back, Greg! I admit I was getting pretty worried about you. Well, this video made my morning!! I recognized the razor blade loader as soon as you pulled it out of the ground; as a little girl I would watch my dad as he shaved, and the photo you showed could almost be him, right down to the little budgie that was like the one Dad gave me on my tenth birthday! Thanks so much for the wonderful glimpses into our American past. God bless, and take care.

@FindingAmerica
@FindingAmerica 4 ай бұрын
There's no need to get anything else Wayne. You have a great machine there with the 700 and you'll definitely enjoy using that one. Yes, 1699.00 is a lot for anything these days but it's not really unreasonable when you remember that top of the line machines have always been in that price bracket for decades. The Teknetics 9000 was 800.00 in 1982 when it came out. I remember when the Fisher CZ-20 cost 1250.00 in the early 90's and the CZ-70Pro was 1100.00. The White's Spectrum XLT was 800.00 and the V3i in 2009 was 1400.00 way back then. The Minelab E-Trac was 1500.00 in 2008 and the CTX3030 in 2012 was and still is 2500.00. It's pretty incredible that machines have not really risen in price for decades and the Manticore and the XP Deus II with all their technological advancements are at $1699.00. It's also amazing what just 250.00 up to 1,000.00 can buy you today as well. ATB Greg

Greg, thanks for another great video. It looks like I may need to upgrade detectors. I’m still using an old school Tesoro Vaquero (no screen). I think the learning curve of the Minelabs has kept me away. Well done on the recoveries.
@FindingAmerica
@FindingAmerica 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching this one Doug! I love the old Tesoros. I wouldn't worry about the learning curve too much as I used to think exactly like you years ago. When the FBS multi frequency machines came out with the Explorers all the way back in 1999, everyone I talked to kept going on and on about how difficult they were to learn so I avoided Minelab back then and kept using my Garrett and then my Fishers. I finally broke down and bought a Minelab E-Trac and it was like the clouds parted for me! I started finding so much in my "hard hunted" spots. There was a learning curve for sure but it wasn't anything crazy difficult to learn. It's just like going from a flip phone to a smart phone; big learning curve but it's not hard to learn. Most people who have problems are the ones that never read the owner's manual and start playing with the settings! :) Once I was familiar with the E-trac all I could think was how I wished I had started using those FBS Minelabs from the beginning! A Minelab 700 or 900 is a great machine or if you want to start with something easier on the wallet but still has amazing performance, you could go with the Xterra Pro. That is a fantastic machine for just 299.00 and it would still be a major upgrade. Well, there's some food for thought and I wish you all the luck out there no matter what you're swinging. ATB Greg

Years ago I found the medal those Marksman's bars goes to. It has 5 bars that were barely dangling on but they were still there. I'd have to dig it out to remember what all 5 were but I do remember the medal is sterling and 3 of the 5 bars are marked sterling but 2 of them that aren't marked don't appear to be silver but who cares she a beauty to find. I always wondered if anyone else has ever found a few of these being the bars have such a small loop. Cool find. I guess when you watch enough and dig enough you find people who find the same thing other then the obvious mercs or indians. It's great to see you out digging and making videos again

I've often wondered if it is how good you know your machine or how well your machine performs and your new machine definitely made a difference great video like the marksman tags

There are good arguments for both cases but I think this particular hunt demonstrated that new technology definitely made the difference this time. Sorry Finding America, but I laugh at americans being unable to metal detect for three weeks. As a Quebecker, we are unable to go from about mid November to the third week of April. All snowed out during this time. Oh well, I am sure you take weeks off for tornadoes and extreme heat which we don't have. Great video, happy hunting!

I've lived in conditions like yours for many years while living in Germany. It's a little different situation when you have a KZfaq channel and you're expected to put out an episode every Thursday. That's when three weeks seems like an eternity for me and everyone that tunes in to watch each week.

Yes, I know exactly what you are referring to Mathew. There may have been some lead WWII soldiers made but they were changing over to plastic in the US by 1938 and the panzerfaust was first invented in 1943. This definitely resembles one and I appreciate your help with it!

Awesome to hear you have one coming for yourself! Whenever I have a new machine, I always just put it into it the basic or general program and just use it with all the factory presets. I only changed the threshold level to 4 as I like hunting with a slight threshold in my ears for the faint signals. Spend some time before you head out reading and rereading the online manual. So many people make the mistake of heading out with it in the field and just going willy nilly with the adjustments available as soon as they get it and there are a lot of adjustments available to the user with this machine! I never just make an adjustment on a machine without fully understanding what actually happens when I make that particular setting adjustment. Dig everything that you think is a decent target and then find out what's in that hole. Take your time and listen to the tone it's giving you over that target, the numbers it shows you and really look at the image trace and the information it's giving you there. Sometimes it will provide a signature in the iron range and in the conductive range at the same time. Dig those so you can learn why its done that. The Manticore's separation is pretty incredible and the image trace will process multiple targets in the hole effortlessly. I only have about 15 hours on it so far but I have to say that one of the machine's obvious strengths is the crazy quick separation. I went to a POUNDED portion of a POUNDED park that I have hunted and tested machine and equipment on for the past 20 years and pulled five good finds from a 20 foot square section. What was even crazier is that I did it with the 11" coil! I hope you enjoy the machine and take your time with it. As Kenny mentioned in the comments here, it's a fun machine and it's a serious machine. Even with my limited hours on it, I can tell it's definitely my kind of machine. I still have much more to learn with it and I am looking forward to that a lot! Best of luck out there! ATB Greg

Between the 900 and the Manticore, I would say that that 900 would be a great choice for you with incredible performance and an easier learning curve. The 900 is an amazing machine and I love using mine. If you decide to get one through Kellyco don't forget to use our FAUSA code when placing an order. Best of luck your next time out Robert and thanks so much for watching and helping to support the channel. ATB Greg

There's no way I would have missed those targets with my 800...no way! Sorry, my opinion knives...come on
@FindingAmerica
@FindingAmerica 4 ай бұрын
I agree with you. Not every single thing that I recovered, like the two knives, were things that could not have been found by the 800. Those were things we obviously just never got our coils over in the past or we may have approached them from the wrong angle at the time. That happens on all sites. I do fully believe that the majority of the things that were found during this hunt were recovered thanks to the Manticore. Most of them were found in areas of heavy iron and nails and had likely been masked before. I appreciate your comment and thanks for watching. ATB Greg
