The cars up here are in excellent shape because of the mild weather. We don't get much snow, so no salty roads causing rust, and the summers aren't extreme enough for the sun to destroy paint jobs and interiors.

Actually in North America only the 1987 model year is 6 cylinders. After that they went with the 2.5 liter inline 5 OM602 which is much more reliable.

"No glow plugs" Why??? Just wait 5 seconds before start and it will pre-glow automatically and run calm without noise and smoke. And don't rev the shit out of it, especially when cold! There are absolutely no benefits from that, can only be harmful to your car!

Burt Reynolds The black smoke is coming because of the setup of the injection pump. And btw, the engine was warmed up. It's just an old engine. So that is why its making that kind of noise.

Roope Saarimaa Got it dude, suppose youre right. But I own old Mercs too, e.g 300D W123 5cylinder 3,0 litre OM617. No smoke! Suppose it has to do with pump setting. Old diesels vary. No smoke = slow car. If you want more hp you have to tolerate some smoke.
