I'm 44 now and though the drugs and crime are pretty bad, it actually used to be a lot worse. I was born here and move away and back again multiple times while my dad was still living. He always had a police scanner on in the living room and there were shootings, drug overdoses, robberies, etc on the daily. Sometimes multiple times a day. It wasn't uncommon to hear gunshots in the night. It's MUCH better than it used to be. We used to be known for having shitloads of bars and pizza shops. They revoked licenses to some of them, didn't issue renewals to some others, and a few others burned down. Most of the good pizza places aren't around anymore, either. Dan's and Park Pizza were my favorite. Both are gone.

Well, Newark just got a new huge Harbor Freight store. And since one third of Newark's citizens receive public assistance (welfare), there are many restaurants in Newark to feed these lazy folks, that never learned how to cook.
