It is a Windows 10 boot time comparison between two laptop running on exactly same hardware except the RAM i.e; 8GB(4+4) on first one and 16GB(8+8) on second one
Both laptops are ThinkPad T430
Specifications
RAM - 8GB(4+4)/16GB(8+8) 1600Mhz DDR3
CPU - Intel core i5 3320M
Storage - 500GB/256GB SATA 6Gbps SSD
GPU - nvidia NVS 5400M 1GB dedicated memory

I forgot to mention it before in the video while editing, that RAMS used on both laptops are dual channeled i.e, (4+4, 1600MHz) on left one and (8+8, 1600MHz) on the right one. And booting time does not only depends on the RAM used but also there are some other factors like *Operating system( 32bit or 64 bit, windows 7 may boots faster than windows 10 in many cases) *Most important one i.e. CPU/Processor *SSD or HDD (If its SSD then whether it is SATA or NVMe / if HDD whether it is 5600rpm or 7200rpm) *Startup Apps, etc. So booting time can differ for everyone based on the system specifications and the factors mentioned above. In my case both laptops have the same hardware specifications and same startup applications turned on but at the end of the day its just a small comparison and does not give same results every time.

RAM has got NOTHING to do with the boot up times between these 2 laptops. Both running SSD's, not the same capacity though. You could take the same spec laptop and have 4GB RAM with the same frequency and the start up times should still be similar to these 2 laptops. Not forgetting apps that are starting up along with the boot of Windows. Startup tab in Task Manager.

Look... actually boot time doesn't only depends on the RAM but also depends on the other factors like the operating system you are using( windows 7 can boots up Faster than windows 10 in many cases) startup programs, background processes, SSD..whether its is SATA 3 or NVMe, RAM frequency, and the most important processor...in my case all the factors in both laptops are identical except the RAM....so boot time can differ in every case from pc to pc depending upon those factors

@techabhi3714
@techabhi3714 2 жыл бұрын
Its because of HDD...at the hardware level to speed it up you can go for an SSD... as a normal SATA 3 SSD is also 5 to 6 times faster than an usual HDD. So I suggest you to get an SSD install. Otherwise on the software level you can perform some system setting tweaks like *Try no GUI boot *Try to clean you junk temporary files from your computer's temp folder *Turn off the startup applications that are not required at the startup These steps can help in speeding up your system but again I suggest you to get an SSD😊😊

If you upgrade from a 8GB RAM to 16GB you will found only see 10-20% of performance boost. So but if u upgrade from a HDD to a SSD it will provide up to 60-70% of performance boost...as HDD r/w speed is 100mbps and a normal SATA 3 ssd has a r/w speed of 600mbps

The 8gb of ram system has 500gb, the 16gb system has 256gb. Wouldn't the advantage to to the 8gb here then? Hence making the difference bigger.
@techabhi3714
@techabhi3714 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmelwani6000 Look the size of the SSD does not make any performance difference until and unless they are 70% full. After that the SSD's performance can be downgraded. But that's not the case here. Both are SATA 3 6Gbps SSDs which means their read/write are same. Also there are basically 3 types of SSDs 1. 2.5' SATA 3 (it uses SATA bus as lane for data transfer, speed: 560-600MBps) 2. M.2 (it also uses SATA bus as lane for data transfer, speed: 560-600MBps) 3. NVMe M.2 ( it is the fastest SSD, it uses PCI express as lane, NVMe gen 4 speed: 5000MBps read/ 4400MBps write) Note: There is also a slight difference in the read write speed of different brands different ssds, but when I had done the crystaldiskmark test of these two SSDs they came out to be same i.e. about 550MBps max read and about 489-492MBps write speed So it makes the major difference when you have different types of SSDs.(i.e SATA vs NVme)😄😄

If they are in dual-channel and fastboot is turned on (default), and he have a lot of programms at startup may decrease boot time like that. I think Linus Tech Tips made a video while ago that showed that more RAM and shorter boot time where related until 16GB of RAM.

I once read in a official Microsoft documentation that PCs with more RAM may take slightly longer time to boot than similar PCs with less RAM. It was something about Windows being able to skip certain things from its checklist when on less RAM. Of course, the machine with more RAM would kill the one with less RAM in terms of actual OS performance once the devices complete boot up.

Because for the most part ram doesn’t actually have anything to do with boot speed. It only makes a difference if you don’t have enough memory to load the OS on to (and 8GB is more than enough for the OS itself) the bigger factors are your processor and boot drive. Edit: duel channel memory does make a difference on loading speeds, but capacity has nothing to do with whether or not your memory is duel channel.
