Much appreciation for your honest impressions, and a great review! (apologies, lengthy post below...) I've been watching all of the C2X videos as they come out because, out of all the 2019 holiday R/C releases, this one has the strongest hold over me. I own an assortment of crawlers, from nearly stock to heavily upgraded. However, I've never owned a hardbody and really like the idea of working within the limitations they have on ultimate crawling performance, but getting extra satisfaction out of having something with a more scale-accurate appearance. I have some very "scale" terrain in my area, where my 1/10th crawlers look as if they are navigating 1:1 obstacles, and the C2X would be a perfect addition to my garage. Sure, it could use a couple minor changes, but I have all the parts I'd swap (wheels, tires, battery connector, LiPo packs) except the bumper(!) I've checked out other RC4WD vehicles before, and the cast metal axle housings and leaf springs combined with the lack of fender clearance to run a larger tire were just too many negatives for me. It's got to be able to at least make it up the places that I go to, after all. There's a limit to how challenging I want it to be, don't want it to be like taking a stock 4x4 work truck on little A/T tires hill-climbing and rock crawling... disastrous! BTW - the perfect low-cost RC4WD bumper replacement option can be seen on this RCCrawler.com member's Marlin - www.rccrawler.com/forum/attachments/rc4wd-trail-finder-2/383661d1568729584-img_20190913_220949.jpg - and the bumper is Delrin, like the bed and skid of the C2X - makes it inexpensive - link here: store.rc4wd.com/Tough-Armor-Comp-Series-Flush-Mount-Bumper-for-TF2_p_6937.html

It’s a great starting point Matt. I would put weight on the wheels, brass knuckles, overdrive the front, move rear shock towers forward, dual stage foams, clock the motor as you mentioned and maybe lower overall ride height. With these mods I absolutely would Comp with it and probably kick some butt. 😂

A video series on setting up a truck for Class 2 SORCCA events would be awesome, many clubs are running SORCCA based rules but maxing out the scale points at 30pts, this seems to be very common and does effect how much "scaling" gets done over performance issues. Looking at a many pure SORCCA based Class 2 hard body, scaled trail rigs does not match what you see at many Class 2 SORCCA (based) events as they feature heavily cut lexan bodies, no drivers, almost no accessories and the rigs are really stripped down for low weight/low center of gravity performance.

That rear tyre swirl had me mesmerized, psychedelic man!!! Yeah the front bumper is kinda weird but seeing as they cut the body right up to the grill for more clearance it wouldn't make sense to have it in a regular position so I get why its so high. a Marlin bumper might be a better option ! but as it is theres a ton of clearance. On the whole I like it, its got lots of potential. and being halfway through 3D printing an interior for the FJ60 seeing an included interior always gets a thumbs up from me lol

An unusual way to go as you said most people start with a box of part's that are good for a comp vehicle then stamp their own signature in the build, with a smattering of rtr parts that on their own are not comp worthy but once masarged into a truck or buggy work, but not a whole vehicle so yess I think it would e an interesting build to see what else it needs to be competetive by disgarding some part's and adding your own, so I say run a build on here to see what it takes, but first run it as it is before the build about what most of us would do first.

Nice truck, those MTZ tires are actually really good! That "outcry esc" appears to be yet another rebrand of the Hobbywing 1060 which is a solid esc but a simple 1080 is so much better, I'm glad the servo isn't on the passenger side like the other models, I did a video a while back on a Marlin TF2 with the motor on the passenger side and steering servo on driverside that worked out well. Maybe some bigger diamitor wheels,change shock position to lower cog,longer travel shocks maybe weighted front end underdrive/overdrive as well, sliders,def lift and push front bumper in closer to body or cut and modify. Not exactly sure as what else you could do as I'm new to crawling but have a pretty good under standing of them due to watching a lot of vids like this.👍ps. maybe rear portal conversion would also help.🤷‍♂️😁

Personally I would attempt the hard body at first. Remove the standard t case skid and replace with a flat skid Run a full droop set up 30w front 60w rear. You can run the rear with what could be called a semi droop by adding more fluid to keep more pressure under the piston helping keep more weight to the front slowing the drop moving over obstacles. The links can be made to have more up and down travel just by switching to a bent rod end. Which would further lower center of gravity. Front bumper has to go run a shorty rather than that. Rear foams seem like they need a stiffer foam and tuners and just tuners for the front. That’s how I’d start and it’s already planned following my current build.

I would consider making the rear of the chassis rails longer to except a full scale truck bed Altho it would make the rig a little longer adding a truck bed with the side panels to match the 4 door body I think it would look better than that truggy? style bed.and clock the motor defenetly would help in the performance in my opinion.But that's just my thinking.I most definitely would love off those ends that block the headlights and and a winch between the front frame rails to help with the lower CG.Again that's just my way of trying to make a better RTR.I guess in short to each their own.Thanks for sharing.One other thing tho why not have a frint center pumken off to the side under the drivers side or something off center just for that more authentic look of a scale rig.Just a thought.

the first thing is to lower the center of gravity as much as possible, if it was me. I would clock the motor down and get one of the new lighter outrunners that are available from a one of the manufacturers that have them available paired with a micro sidewinder because they are super light. next is to get rid of the electronics plate, followed by home made metal sliders out of something light, like .019" aluminum. mounted to the chassis at the skid bolts and bending up and around the edge of the body stopping short of the body mounting holes, kind of like boat side style. it will be easy enough to work the .019" with but still strong enough to do the job and after some abuse will dent slightly for a more scale look. and now that you have your new aluminum sliders they are a great place to mount your electronics, and battery to keep them low. then i would weight the interior. I have a sneaking suspicion that its not very light and I would probably build a home made 4 seater interior out of the same .019" aluminum i used for the sliders and it would end up being lighter and would receive an extra -2 scale points for custom interior. Outboard the bottom of the shocks as much as possible, and then test and tune and adjust upper links for roll center and anti squat as needed and try not to have to add any weight to the front if possible. sorry for the long winded response. lol

As a class 2 comp RTR.It would have been nice if the front center pumpkin was offset instead of being in the center like the rear pumpkin.But that's just my opinion.But it looks like a capable rtr.And room to make it even better with some mods.

First thing I’d do if I got that rig was get rid of that TF2 style bumper. Obviously it slightly impedes approach angle, but the fact that it covers half the headlights just grinds my gears. RC4WD put a good rear bumper on it, why not put the same type of bumper on front? Oh well, guess that’s where custom work comes in. Other than that, that rig looks really cool.
@scalebuildersguild

Because of where it sits, it's actually not that much of a bother for approach angle. Works pretty well. I wish there was a chassis mounted servo option on this.

The front end needs to be narrowed with a small metal bumper. Any class 2 rig is going to need a servo winch and it looks like there is no room for one on this truck. I like that it's right hand drive, needs a driver. Looking forward to see what you do to it!

I like this rig - but what I´m a bit concerned are two things: 1st) The mounting of the body with normal screws - thats way to laborious for a battery change! And on a long term maybe a bit stressy for the hardbody! 2nd) The gearboxes open gears. They are right in the position of flying dirt and little stones of the front wheels! So you would have constantly dirt in your gears!

Sweet truck. I have gotten into 1/24 crawlers and got bit pretty hard. I have 2 now one being an axial Bronco that does pretty decent. What I have learned is that even these little guys get expensive, especially in Canada. With a moderately modded bronco and 4WS bead bolt and parts, I’m prob into it for close to $1000 (got a bit of wheel and tire thing…). I would be afraid of how quickly this scale adds up. With that being said, I would love to see a build series on this. I love the scale hardbody look and this is one I could see myself getting. One of the many things I learned in the smaller scale is tires are prob the easiest change you can make to net the most results, how are the tires on this cause I would assume the suck like all stock tires.
