You know just enough to be dangerous to yourself. It was public BLM land seized by the AF, not private land taken by eminent domain. There are laws limiting how much land the military can tack onto a base without special approval from Congress, so that a branch of the military can't just say all public lands are now theirs. They violated the limits. Congressional approval would have been needed to get around the limit, and they didn't bother getting that. Pretty simple. Instead, they just changed where the border stakes were, and defended the border with armed private security. They used to very poorly mark the border, to entrap people into crossing it, so they could arrest them, put them on a watch list, fine the crap out of them, and make them sign an NDA plus agreement to never trespass again, or else. They didn't even have a STOP sign or gate, at the border on the dirt road most tourists use to visit the border. Now, they do have a gate and STOP sign on the main roads to the border. But if you wander the side roads or go hiking, you still need to absolutely know what you're doing, or you'll end up face down in the dirt for an hour or two, a few feet inside the border. The private security "camo dudes" holding you there will be munching Doritos and swilling Gatorade, while the country sheriff takes a long drive to come arrest you for them.

It isn't all the government's money and we don't know you so I don't know what you are paying in freaking taxes but sure it's not enough to affect this.
