Eddie's just in denial being aromantic 🚫🌹 (which he blatantly is from how he is shown to behave). Eddie never liked his partners as people or companions 🤝. So someone with the same appearance as Shannon would be a perfect replacement for Shannon. I doubt Eddie can even describe what Shannon's personality is, because he never paid any attention to it. Once Eddie learns to accept himself and live openly about his aromantic-ness, he seems like he will be fine. He just has 1 very specific problem.

@@wittyn0550 - Nobody took his son away from him. Eddie is lucky that Christopher called his grandparents and not Child Protective Services. Especially with some of the stuff in Eddie's background the last few years that might have been a lot worse. At least this way Christopher may forgive him and decide to come home without the authorities getting involved.

idk i think there was some ulterior motives from the Diaz parents… they’ve wanted a second chance to raise a son and it feels like they see Chris as a redo. it’s been a smoking gun waiting to go off since they tried to take Chris from Eddie in season 2, and yes Eddie’s made progress with his parents and i love that he could let Chris go (even though it’s sad!) but it feels like they pressured him idk, their help always seems to come with baggage (Ramon projecting onto Eddie, guilting him about raising sons, not going to their own son’s medal ceremony but stepping in as soon as he does something wrong, not even warning Eddie they were coming) and strings attached (ultimatums, again they tried to take Chris once before), even their body language in those scenes (not looking at Buck or or their own son, the ppl who have raised Chris, sort of rushing Chris out the door when his dad was concerned he forgot something, speaking for Chris instead of mediating… patterns they did even back with Shannon) they’re flawed ppl like Eddie is flawed and i think the writing is also subtly warning us of that and i’m worried they might try to keep Chris next season when he IS ready to come home 😢 also sorry this was A LOT lmao

Her tone of voice and wording reminds me of some RL sht I've seen happen. It makes me concerned about how this storyline will unfold. I agree. Just made a whole statement about it. They have tried several times to take Christopher from Eddie. In short, I find them to be controlling, overstepping parents, who are almost punishing him for not moving back to Texas when they wanted him to. IMO he didn't want to go because they are always undermining him as a parent. I don't doubt they love him and want the best for him. But I also believe their motives are self-serving.

It's also telling that he didn't go to Buck this time. I hope Christopher doesn't think Buck was in on it.

Heck, Buck actually *did* confront Eddie about Kim, but Eddie went and LARPed with her anyway despite knowing that Christopher was not going to be out all night. Fake!Shannon was just a line too far for Christopher and he doesn't want to be anywhere near his father right now. Which he would be if he stayed with Buck.

But Eddie couldn't think of anything besides "Shannon" and even his best friend's (Buck's) explicitly-stated concerns were ignored. Eddie needs more than therapy. He needs some time in a facility. He tries to pretend that he's okay, but he has these fairly regular bad ideas related to his mental health issues.

Bobby regularly attends AA meetings and goes to Church. He *still* has loads of unresolved issues. Not everybody can talk their way into recovery! Eddie already *is* in therapy, but it obviously hasn't helped him much. Therapists are not angels or gods. Eddie's therapist's well-meaning advice for Eddie to reach out to the people Eddie served with in the Army just led to Eddie discovering that they had all *died* and that was why he had that massive breakdown where he trashed his bedroom and scared the heck out of Christopher! Now, Eddie's mistake with Kim has resulted in Christopher leaving home to go live with his grandparents in Texas! How do you suppose that Eddie is going to cope with that? Especially knowing that it was his fault for LARPing with Kim inside their house when he *knew* Christopher was due to come home with Marisol? Eddie's life is in shambles, So much of his self-identity was based on being a father and his son just walked out on him! Eddie is going to spiral unless he gets more help then just 50 minutes of talk time with a therapist on a regular basis.

irl they probably hug each other. It's just how normal human would do to soothe his friend and this has nothing to do with sexual intimacy. But I know, the show tries to limit their physical interaction to prevent people from reading too much on the scence.

Maybe that's what he needs. He teases Buck, but Eddie is even less attached to most of his girlfriends than Buck is with his. There's a running joke that Eddie only dates to find babysitters for Chris. Now that Chris is out of the picture, Eddie needs to focus on his mental health. He can't be a good father until he does.

Gavin is still a minor and can't treat the show as his primary responsibility. They need to focus on Eddie's mental health issues anyway. Me neither, I hate those 2 from the moment I watch 9-1-1. They never even try to support Eddie at all. All they do , is try to push and give pressure to Eddie. Ask him to go back to El Paso , where they thought they could take care of Christopher. But the truth is they don't even know , what Eddie has been through. His parents have the nerve to say that Christopher needs consistency. And they always blame the late Shannon for leaving Christopher and everything. Honestly Shannon was trying to take care of her mom and she needs to have her own times. They thought they could talk to Eddie and try to help him. Later, Eddie is taken off probation during a special ceremony at the firehouse and officially welcomed into the ranks of the LAFD. His family attends the event, catching glimpses of the life, friendships, and family Eddie has created for himself and Christopher. Although it is clear that Eddie's parents still hold some doubt and concern for Eddie and Christopher's well-being, these glimpses prompt them to accept Eddie's decision to remain in LA, and they congratulate Eddie for his hard work and achievement. They're doubt and concern for Christopher can kiss my ass for it. After the Shannon funeral ceremony, they have family time. Helena says Christopher was very brave just like his dad , and Eddie says brave like his mom too. Ramon sarcastically says " how , by leaving him " in front of Eddie , Abuela Isabel and Tia Pepa. Abuela tries to stop Ramon by saying his name is ”Ramon..!” Eddie defended his late wife by saying " Papi , we're not doing this..!! " , Eddie's parents never feel bad for it. And they always keep blaming Shannon, even though she's already dead. His dad apologised with not feeling awful for what he said. They kept asking him and brought Christopher to come back to El Paso and stay with his family. Eddie feels shocked and pissed when they're saying that in front of his abuela and his Tia Pepa. His abuela and his Tia Pepa offended, of what they said. It's like they don't even feel sorry for what they are saying. Eddie defends by saying " we have a life here , and family " . Tia Pepa says " thank you , Eddie. We're sitting right here ”. Good thing that Eddie makes the custody of Christopher, and out Buck as a legal guardian. If anything happened to him. And I really hope and wish to god that Buck will be the legal guardian to Christopher , where Eddie's parents will never get a chance to take Christopher away from them. Now I understand, why Eddie has a strained relationship with his parents, Ramon and Helena Diaz, largely due to their doubting his ability to raise Christopher, and their hostility towards Shannon. While Eddie has started to make amends with his father, it is unclear as to where his relationship stands with his mother. Ramon and Helena both of them are a**hole.. I f*vking hate them.

The scene alone is obvious that they are more than friends. It doesn't even matter any more if they are platonic or romantic because both of them already act like an inseparable single family unit. Either way, it's just a matter of time that they will recognize and admit the obvious. In fact, when Eddie calls Buck for help, it reminds me of the situation where a guy calling his ex to deal with his children's problem he can't handle, like, dad can't handle it so let's call mom for help.

The scene right before this with Eddie and Buck literally had Eddie say "I don't want to break down the door Buck, I want him to open it!". Even when Eddie's in so much pain, and he's freaking out and hyperventilating, he doesn't want to push Christopher's boundaries. He doesn't want to force him to talk. I can't believe anyone who'd watch that and this clip and label Eddie a bad father or someone who forces his child into doing something. Here, Eddie is clearly NOT forcing Christopher to say anything. He wants Chris to know that his father is still supporting Chris' choice to be with his grandparents. That Eddie loves him even when Eddie did something terrible, unlike Eddie's own father who left his family at times in need. Some people who think that Eddie is a bad father, honestly, haven't seen what the writers have shown since season 2 in 2018. They might be dumber than a bag of rocks...

MHO here I think coming off the writers strike created a crunch within the transition from FOX to ABCDisney cost cutting measures.

Because I think they know their son is a mess. Do you not recall within the last year when he destroyed everything in the room with a bat. This man is not well He's making irresponsible decisions and judgments he's bringing strangers into the house. It's reckless I can see why Chris would not want to be around that crap.

@SScott-nr9vl I guess that's a point to consider. But it still bothers me. I guess it gives him an opportunity to work some things out. But they also wanted to keep Christopher when he first got back from deployment. They also tried to take Chris when Eddie decided he didn't want to move back to Texas and wanted to build an independent life for him and his son. And guess why that is. Because they are constantly undermining him, IMO. If these were Shannon's parents who were always trying to get custody, it would make more sense to me. But these are his parents. It doesn't feel to me that they try to support him. It feels like they are always second-guessing him, trying to coerce him, and almost punish him for not doing what they think he should be doing with his life. I guess that could be said about a lot of parents and many cultures are notorious for having controlling, overstepping families (including mine :) ) but as for this storyline, that is what it feels like to me.

I disagree, they had calm, productive conversations and when leaving he and his mom shared a moment, a hand and arm squeeze. when Chris wants to go home, he will. this is respecting chris' emotions and choices as a teen and done with love. they will find their way back to each other. Eddie needs to sort himself out first.

Yeah but you have to see it from Christopher's view too. The kid lost his mother, his father is going left and right with women and then leaving them, and when he finally starts to like Marisol and she doesn't leave after a week, he comes back to see his dad with a woman who looks exactly like his dead mother, who he started to even forget the sound of her voice, in the living room *hugging* and that takes a toll on a kid who's still grieving and at the same time moving on and dealing with teenage hormonal changes too. It's a a lot to take for a kid, especially for his age

He's a 13 year old child, whose adult father did something horrible. I think it's odd that you put the onus on a kid to 'rise above' the intense feelings of betrayal and emotion, when it's his dad who screwed up. Chris was being true and honest and didn't owe it to his father to lie and pretend.

@@CandaceYoung962 exactly, his father didn't do anything to try and move on before he started getting and leaving all these women, and now he did something that (under my opinion) is unforgettable, it doesn't matter if he didn't cheat on Marisol physically, the fact he even thought of her *and* went on a *date* with her is emotional cheating, which by the way is worse because physical is just physical attraction, here Eddie used his unresolved grievance to go with someone who looks like his dead wife, his son's *mother*, while being with someone else. Christopher doesn't owe Eddie anything because what he's feeling is justified and fair, he just came back from a hang out with his dad's *girlfriend* and found his dad with someone identical to his dead *mother* and on top, he didn't even know in the first place about all of this. To me, yes Eddie feels, as rightfully so, guilty because he played with everyone's feelings, Kim's, Marisol's and worst of all his son's. Chris needs time to process this shocking news and can't be with the guy who kept all of this a secret from him, he needs time before he forgives him. And Eddie needs time for himself to work on his self improvement and self awareness of his issues and figure everything out before he hurts himself and others more than he already did
