Surprise guest teacher, Rory Feek, visits The One Room Schoolhouse's to share some stories and a song at the Hardison Mill Homestead School.
This educational project is launched in fall of 2020 and is designed to bring lessons out of our classroom and into your homes... and around the world. We have folks of all ages and stages who tune in to watch and learn alongside the students at Hardison Mill Homestead School. It runs daily for one hour (9am CT / 10am ET) and features a variety of guest teachers, lesson topics, and more!
Remember, school doesn't have to be in a building with teachers and desks. And we are ALL "life-long learners." School can happen anywhere YOU might be.
This program is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Dottie Frist Foundation, the Happy Davis Foundation, Heart Utilities, and viewers like you.

This is how we solve 99 percent of the problems in America!!!! I have had this dream myself over the last year. My family and I were talking about having a family one room schoolhouse on our farm and letting community kids attend. Then I stumbled across the videos regarding this school. It has inspired me to move forward with my dream. We are a small family with humble resources, but I know when God puts his hands on something that mountains will move. Thanks for fueling my inspiration!!!

I wish every school in this country would be like this. I think a lot of our troubles would melt away. You are teaching the children the wonderful things parents do yesteryear taught their children.

I use to work in the school system were I am . And their were 24 children in a class room. A teacher told me one time that its hard to get all the children a teachestion .

The fact that Miss. Rebecca and Rory just got married sent me here. Rory is so comfortable with children. He's amazingly great at speaking to small children in ways that they understand. I didn't know he wrote A Little More Country Than That. I enjoyed that song when Easton Corbin sang that.

This is the best thing I have seen in my lifetime! Exactly how learning should be, all schools should use this as a template! Rory and Miss Rebecca are both a blessing and an example of great teachers for future generations. I’m not even a child and I love watching it. Joey would be so proud of this story that is unfolding and the vision coming to fruition. Indiana is a very lucky little girl and so is the community that benefits from this amazing school and farm.

I love the squeaky door it sounds so homely.Remember way back when we used to have screen doors on the back.Porch or outback that would squeak when you'd go in and out.I love that squeaky sound has memories

We attended a 3 room school, 2 grades per room. Very rural area in western Maryland - it is no longer a school. We obtained a very good primary education and I see that your school will too.

Awesome is the only words I can find to say you have done a wonderful job putting things together for a little Indy and your family. Without a shadow of a doubt I know because I lost my husband just prior to Joey passing away, that Joey would be so proud of what you are accomplishing. I will leave it God put you and Joey together to have such a wonderful little child together as she is such a beautiful little girl and might I say Indy is very very educated and smart. Everyone I know that watch your blog is so proud of what you have accomplished. God Bless you.

Just a suggestion regarding the Hobbit House. You indicated that the canned goods would be toward the top of the shelves. If there was severe weather, and the house shook enough, those canned goods could fall on them so I would suggest putting some books in a separate area on the lower level for the children but storing the canned goods on bottom shelves on one side (possibly the longest side) of the house. I loved the tour. Good job Dad!

Your concept of education is excellent and awesome! All schools should be like this. Children and community in the REAL WORLD. Joey was one of the most beautiful women inside and out. They had such a wonderful marriage in life beautiful older girls and baby Indy. I understand what he means when he says he still feels like he's married. I still feel married to my husband that passed. I wonder if he dreams about her almost every night like I do my husband. I don't think this is still available since the restrictions from COVID are behind us. My grandson is now only 18 months old and still quite young to be doing screen time. However, I would LIVE for this empty seat at the Hardison Mill schoolhouse to be open every day for years to come. So nurturing and a BLESSING to all who participate... Do they also have bible time each day along with their prayers? Great good in service to our Creator is happening at Rory's homestead! ps - Welcome to your new family REBECCA!
