I just wanted to thank Sarkis for putting together such a great video tour of my basement and home theater. I might be biased but the video opening is amazing work by Sarkis!! This channel and all of you really helped me get through a time when I felt defeated. Plus, over the last year I have gotten a lot of ideas from Sarkis’s other tours and all of your comments on other videos. Over the next day I will make sure that I answer any of your questions or address some of your observations of our theater. Cheers!

Great setup! Getting started on this journey myself. Also in the Chicago burbs. A lot of mine will be DIY so been watching a lot of videos on how to do all that stuff. Thankfully, I won't need to build out too much construction wise at least in the first phase. I'm sure as time moves on I'll have future enhancements after the initial setup. That rack is killer btw!

So the signs are available from a lot of online stores. The one I worked with for the door panels and personalized theater sign was HT Mart. They come in both a LED backlit version and non backlit. If your going with LED backlighting you will need a recessed outlet behind the sign or you can run 18/3 wire to a remote outlet to power it. You can then use a smart outlet adapter to control it.

@@cheekster777 So I just store mine on my NAS in a folder that I don’t include in my media library on Plex and Kodi. However, I would think you can add them to Plex with cover art and tag them as a collection so they are all grouped together. If you wanted cover art, Plex should match the name to a movie and download the cover art and movie details. If not, you can manually match it to a movie so Plex downloads the correct metadata. I do this with all of my Dolby/DTS bumpers and demos.

Best intros in the business Sakris, loved the Jurassic Park buildup. I want to have a few movie rolls before starting the main feature. It is down the to-do list and I need to learn more about how to do it seemlesly so it looks professional. That's where I would like about 10 different ones that are all demo clips for Atmos, DTS, bass and video. Someone needs to start a business to build these packages if licensing can be obtained. I would spend $30 per demo roll to randomly play before a movie.

I know it is all personal choice. I would have sacrificed the bar area in the back to move back the front row of seats. Dedicated heat and ac for a theater is ideal but does add substantially to cost and most people would rather use that budget for audio and video
@brademcee
@brademcee 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. If the space was almost always used for movies, a bar isn’t needed. However, we entertain a ton for live events (mostly sports but sometimes concerts too). The bar seating is really popular for that but if you almost always watch movies, I would agree to eliminate the bar to give a back aisle and push seating back 2’. I still do not like having rear seatings against the wall. Normally I like at least 2’-3’ between the rear speakers and the last row. Obviously that isn’t always possible. Thanks again for the input!

@@brademcee appreciate it my friend. I may have to find out how you did your movie trailer/rolls. I have always wanted to make a bunch of demos about 3 min long to play seamlessly before a movie, especially for guests. Something that plays the demo and then starts the movie automatically. I would make some Atmos/DTS/LFE demos to showoff the system. Unlike you, I don't have much experience in HTPC or Plex or anything to do that. I believe you mentioned KODI, which I have on an older Android box. I'm not at the point where I want to spend $500+ just so I can have this feature as I have other upgrades I would prioritize. I haven't looked into everything a PLEX is even capable of.

beautiful theater... I'm in the process of building my theater also. I would like 2 rows and a bar area just as you have. My room is 21.5× 16 so very close to the dimensions if your room. Can you please advise the distance between your front row and screen. Also I would like to see the placement of your riser. Do you have a build thread on any forums?
@brademcee
@brademcee 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! The first row of seats puts the viewer about 6’ from the screen. We typically look at viewing angles opposed to distance away from the screen. This is because of your second part to your question. It all depends on screen size and aspect ratio. A non-IMAX experience the SMPTE recommended viewing angle is 35 to 55 degrees. For IMAX, it’s about 70-80 degrees. The first row is definitely going to give you an immersive experience with 2:4 content and is great for 16:9. The kids all like the first row regardless of the content but when we do live sporting events which is in 16:9 the first row and the bar seating are the most popular seating. Guest like to be able to come and eat/drink at the bar while watching the games. However, I don’t recommend bars in theaters if you are not going to entertain for sporting events. Most people don’t sit at the bar for movies. 50% of the theaters use is for parties and live events. At the end of the day, we had to balance getting the bar space and then dedicated seating for 8. The theater fits 13-14 people comfortably. If you wanted to get the first row of seats a bit farther back to get that viewing angle down to non-imax viewing angles you can either shrink the screen (not recommended) or change the front proscenium setup. I built the wall out 28” to accommodate the speakers and rack. If you went with inwall speakers and had your rack in another room (always recommended if you can), you can pick up 2’ more feet for the first row which would get that viewing angle closer to 60 degrees for the first row. I just started a thread on AVS Forum and also posted a link to Sarkis’s channel and this tour. www.avsforum.com/threads/home-theater-tour.3225420/

@Grayson Peddie I am assuming you meant 200” 16:9 screen. At 9’ that would put your viewing angle at 77.8 degrees. It might me a bit too high. Maybe going to 10’ would be better. That would put you at 72 degrees.
@brademcee
@brademcee 2 жыл бұрын
@Grayson Peddie that angle in a commercial cinema in the front row will be at least 120-150 degrees. Anything past 140 degrees is the limit to the human eye field of view with both eyes.

Awesome channel, I love your reviews and theater showings! I had a few questions perhaps you could answer? What is green board? Is it something in place of drywall? I ask because I currently have an unfinished basement with concrete floors and 4 walls are concrete with dimensions of 150inW x 25ft D x 8ft H. I know I'll have to do some type of framing on the walls but I want to put at least a 150" 16:9 screen in the room so I have to find materials that will allow me to put a wall over the concrete foundation using the least amount of space possible! I will but acoustic panels where needed once done but do you have any ideas on what the best way to frame out walls would be without taking up more than a few inches?? Is that even possible?? Thanks so much!

@hstudio30 2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Kyle, means alot to hear that. Greenboard is a type of drywall that is used for walls in damp but not wet zones such as badement to give the best possible outcome for protection and insulation. Its moisture resistant and better to use than your regular drywall. 🍻🤙

Greenboard is basically drywall that won't mold if there is some moisture. If you flood, it will not really help you but I would say it is safer to at least use it for the lower part of your wall (so one sheet installed). In regards to wall depth, the minimal you can probably get away with is 2" studs (compared to 4" studs).

Was there anything you were able to do to prevent a flood from occurring in the future?
@brademcee
@brademcee 2 жыл бұрын
The flood was due to an interior pipe break between the new addition foundation and original foundation. Because the original homeowner had combined the water discharge line (for the sump pump) and our sanitary line, when the sanitary line got backed up and we had a large rain, the first floor guest bathroom was the next lowest point so that is where all of the water flooded too. We corrected the issue and now have a second line out to the storm drain. Our sump pump never failed but we now have a main pump and battery back up pump in the pit. I also use Pump Spy to give me real time notifications of our sump pump. Also, as mentioned in the video, during the rebuild of the basement we used Greenboard for the walls which is more resistant to moisture and recommended for basements. Let me know if you have any other questions.

6.8’ with 80 degree viewing angle in 2.35. Amazing for immersive viewing without eye straining for those that like the closer seats in the theater. In 16:9, they are perfect for most people

Thanks for the response. 😀 I sit 7.5’ from a 10’ wide scope screen so it’s nice to see that I’m not the only one that loves that degree of immersion. All those viewing distance recommendations are silly. Personal preference is all that matters.

@@DIGGERS881 When I had my theater before the flood, I may have watched 10 3D movies in 8 years. With my new theater, I fell back in love with 3D viewing (from either row) because of the level of immersion I am getting and the new Sony processor makes 3D viewing incredible (I actually would say it’s a better experience then the passive real3D in theaters). I am almost done watching most of the Marvel series in 3D over the past 6 weeks.

Hi mate, what exactly you need a tutorial of?
@brademcee
@brademcee 2 жыл бұрын
Installation video of the BTS system? There are some videos on Klipsch's Real Cinema website. I did not take any installation videos but they are super easy to install. The hardest part is that each speaker is over 100 LBS with the subs being even heavier so you need to make sure the speaker platform can support up to 800LBS. The speakers then just slide in and get bolted to each other. The speaker wire posts are on the front of the speaker so it makes installation super easy once you get them in the speaker cove. These speakers are meant to be mounted higher then a standard speaker, as your screen size dictate which series of the Real Cinema line you would select.

@brademcee 2 жыл бұрын
We feel the screen height is perfect for the 2nd row seats (as outlined in the drawings). Any lower and the first row will cut off the view for the 2nd row. The riser is actually almost 2’ (double riser) high. So it’s basically the same height/angles you would experience from the middle of a theater with stadium seating. From the 1st row it’s still a really good and you don’t have to look up but the viewing angle is closer to what you would experience in an IMAX theater or from the first few rows of a commercial theater in 2.40 aspect ratio. It’s an acquired taste for 2.40 content. My wife likes the 2nd row for watching 2.40. Thanks for watching the tour.
