The guitar is in standard tuning with the exception of the high E string which is tuned down a whole step to D. Peter Buck used this tuning for 'Gardening At Night' and also 'Windout'. As a result the band would often play these three songs in a row during their live dates touring the album. I've approached this one largely based upon the way it was played live.

For the audio I'm using my Fender Telecaster AVRI into a DAW via the Amplitube 4 plugin. I've opted for an approximation of the live rig used by Peter Buck in the mid-80's so am using a Fender Twin & Mesa Boogie Mk III with some slight chorus and delay.
I also put together a backing track; Both Bill Berry & Mike Mills' contribution are (obviously) essential to this song.

One of my favourite REM tunes and probably the only Murmur tune I struggled to work out. Looks like I missed the tuning, it all makes sense now, thank you. Great playing!

@@HeadlessGuitarPlayer Thanks for drawing my attention to your Instagram blog on Reckoning. I was interested in your comment on the intro to South Central Rain, of course, and I found a Rickenbacker forum in which Mitch Easter (R.E.M. Producer) said that the studio intro was played on a Fender Electric XII of his, so you are right in that it was not played on Peter Buck’s Rickenbacker. He mentions use of a Rockman in combination with the Fender. He also recalls Peter’s Rickenbacker features somewhat on the track. The video shows a Guild Starfire just to confuse us further...

There aren't tutorials for 9-9, We walk or West of fields, but there are play alongs (not as good as your one). And for Perfect Circle there is nothing.

By recreating the whole thing from scratch:). Drums are programmed, bass and guitar played, by me.

I use Cakewalk/Sonar, but any DAW would do it of course.
