Looked at your video and decided to try it. Didn't hold on to it for even 5 minutes because it lacks the simple function of collapsing emails - by sender, etc. What a laugh! Back to my happy older version for now

@@bearded365guy Yeah, but that doesn't address downundarob's excellent points. No hate on you, Jonathan, but all I've been seeing in these reviews on the new Outlook is glowing comments about its "amazing" new features. But as a longtime Outlook user (and something of a Microsoft fan, especially since my freelance work involves supporting customers in the Microsoft environment), all I can see at this point is a dumbed-down version of Outlook that removes the features I care about and NEED. Not all of the items he mentioned in his comments, although I'm sure they're all important to a spectrum of users. But no .pst support?? That's essential for users who want to have local copies for archiving purposes. And one thing he didn't mention is no more VBA support. I have VBA macros written in Outlook both for myself and that I've written for customers. I use every them day, and from what I can see, Microsoft is dumping VBA. And for all these "amazing" features in the new version, I think Microsoft could have easily incorporated a lot of them into the existing client version and left well enough alone instead of lobotomizing the current Outlook and choosing form over function. Like I said, no hate on you, but for once I'd like to see a video on all the amazing features that Microsoft is killing with the new Outlook.

I believe the new version is a complete dumbing down of what is a swiss army knife of an email client. No In-cell editing, no custom fields and not way to use visual basic on complex tasks. I like the new features, but Delay Send is already a feature.

The reason new Outlook looks EXACTLY the same as Outlook web version and can't open PST files, or copy/paste attachments between emails is because new Outlook IS SIMPLY Outlook Web version in a desktop wrapper. Like you can present web pages as apps in Chrome/Edge browser. It will be fine for 80% of users and a huge step over the Windows Mail app but no way is it a replacement for the fully featured Outlook Desktop version.

Thanks for the video. Unfortunately, the new Outlook is of no use for those who have to actually work with Outlook. The tasks functionalities (to do) are minimal compared to the original outlook tasks. Also, it mixes up the old folders with the categories, which creates a big chaos. Most of the new features are just play stuff.

The first thing I criticize in the new outlook is the fact that I can't tell what I'm running. Am I running the web version? Am I running the desktop version and the reason why that's important is if you're trying to do helpdesk with somebody you have to go through a bunch of aggravation to try to figure out what they're actually using. Why didn't they just name it outlook desktop, also the second thing I noticed was that your PST's also vanished. for some of us that's a relatively important historical artifact when you're talking about decades perhaps of emails being unable to be accessed. While I certainly look forward to a more robust and less crashing product, I think this is way too early in the launch to recommend this product to any of my clients, there seems to be a lot of work to be done. I rate this product three stars out of five at this point and I think I'm being generous.

Thank you for your video. I tried a demo version of the new outlook a while ago now but was put off by the absence of the quick access toolbar. i use categories extensively and often need to assign a few categories to an email simultaneously. Therefore i have a button "All Categories" on my quick access toolbar to help me do it quickly. Also I've got the button "Collapse All Groups" which i find very useful. Have Microsoft made quick access toolbar available in the "New" New Outlook?

I am finding a really hard time printing out of the new Outlook. It defaults to a light gray default and no matter what I change my settings to on my printer, it doesn't update. If I write an email OUT then it prints in black but anything IN is gray. Then it no longer prints page numbers which is challenging as I usually print a few email chains at once and have to go and peck through them now. Any suggestions?

I like a lot of the new features in the new Microsoft, but it's still missing some important things for me. The most notable thing that I can't live without is a persistent notification that I have a new email. The old Outlook left an icon in the task tray so that I could come back to my desk after walking away for a bit and see that I have new email without having to open Outlook specifically to look at it. Now though you can't tell that there's a new email unless you open Outlook to see.

Hi Bret 15 years ago, our management organized a work-life balance workshop. The objective was to identify how to reduce stress and give more "life" to people when they are at work. One of the key point I'm still using today is "get rid of the notifications". Being notified of a new email takes you out of the current task you are doing. The suggested way of working was to remove any outlook notifications (even keep outlook closed if you will) and just scan your inbox from time to time, when more important tasks are completed. Humans are not so good at multitasking. (This WoW supposes that mail is used to send information and request, not as real-time chat system, as it often happens)

@Jonathan Edwards - The new Outlook features are very helpful, lots to learn, however, the search function is missing. In the old version, I could sort by name and press "m" for example and it would take me to the names beginning with M. In this version you have to be specific in your search for it to work. This also applies to sorting by subject, it did not work, unless you have a tutorial on this to share

I switched to the new edition and I really like the new look and feel. I'm also missing a lot of features (e.g. automatic formatting for calendar events). But, what we all should not forget, this is about stability! I had so much trouble in my life with outlook (e.g. not able to receive or send emails, so I needed to create a new profile) and this seems to be the solution. Old outlook was just so badly programmed after all the years of patching around. Hopefully we see the old features coming...

I didn't find how to add the option of send a reminder of follow up when I send an email. I couldn't customize the size of the ribbon, so my quick steps are not at one click available. Finally, all my rules colapsed and it was a pain when I came back to the old Outlook

Hi I do not work (retired), the main feature I use in Classic outlook is the Calendar for all my daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly appointments (I cannot function without my calendar - So teams, emails etc. are not important. But I use emails sometimes as well as Gmail. I did switch to the new outlook, but I did not like it - so many features of the calendar are missing. I switched back to the classic outlook. My question is when I am forced to use the new outlook, are all my appointments / reminders will transfer over, also the customized quick access bar exists?? Currently my outlook (MS office 365) is linked to iCloud for windows, So I have access to my calendar on my iPhone, my laptop and Desktop which helps me to add or update any appointment in any of the 3 that I use at home or if I am out and add new appointment on my iPhone - would this feature will exist ?

I really wish Microsoft would offer what I call an "Internal Blind Copy" feature. This would allow everyone getting an Internal Blind Copy to see who else got one, such as people in your office--that way you'd know that Sally and Jim in Accounting got copied so you (in Marketing) wouldn't have to ensure they got the info by sending them a duplicate email. I figure as soon as I retire, Microsoft will make this available.

Hi, Thanks for this video. I liked the "pin" feature, i find it useful and surely i'd use it when i definitively switch to the new version. I tried it once and immediately rolled back as the main feature i use disappeared... : Conditional formatting. An email doesn't have the same importance to me whether I'm the only one y the To-list or if I'm bCC'ed so i color the emails summary accordingly using conditional formatting in the view menu. Does this still exist and missed it? The other features, i believed they already exist in the desktop version, maybe not so straight forward. For instance you can create a "search folder" filtering for a supervisor category and pin it to favorites, this will do the same as the ⭐ in front of the category list you showed.

I had to switch back because new outlook does not make it possible to send over emails to onenote, something that has become essential in my workflow. Perhaps I can find a workaround for this, because new outlook definitely has features I like, but it does not feel complete yet. It really feels like the web version of an app, and I don’t mean that in a good way. It definitely feels slower too, even though I can not say for sure, but it was the feeling I got. The skin/theme from my web Outlook even came across. As lazy as it seems on MS behalf, I like having the UI consistency between the two.

In the old version you could create a rule that would alert you to all emails you designated in a notification list. Microsoft in all their infinite wisdom eliminated that option in the new version. So now in all the rules I created that included the notification option the email just silent buries itself in a designated folder. I've missed so many emails that my boss now prints them out and leaves them on my desk when he wants something. For the life of me I can't understand what goes through these developers minds. It's so frustrating.

In older iterations of the schedule send feature, the computer had to be up and running and Outlook had to be open and connected for it to work, essentially making it a client-side feature. Is this the case with the new one? Or did they make it server-side so that I can be doing emails, schedule them to send in the morning, and then pack up my laptop or be doing it from a browser and then let that computer go to sleep and still trust that my emails will send?

I like to stay organized in Outlook and was wondering how is your inbox empty? Are you archiving emails as you read them? Or are you filtering by unread? Just looking for some insight so I can be better organized. I like the idea of just emails that have recently gone to my inbox showing. Similar to how an actual physical mailbox works!

How do I see which account I am logged into? Looks like I don't have all the features you mentioned. In settings>>accounts, the only options I have is email accounts and signatures, the other four options aren't showing on mine. My ribbon doesn't have all the same options. The "send" button doesn't give me the option to schedule and my "My Day" does not show the "to do", it only shows the calendar. Is there some place I need to turn that on to access it? THanks for this video!! It was very helpful!

Heyy !, So i actually wanted some help with the new outlook which is recently launched. Now in the old or the regular outlook whenever we had any emails with attachments, double clicking on them could open the attachments in your desktop ms office word or excel or ppt. But with this new Outlook, it only allows you to save the document first and then open in the desktop apps. If not saved it redirects to onedrive and then opens the document in a browser. This issue has been there since the start. Now i have a MS 365 subscription in my MS Office and i use multiple accounts but since i have a 365 subscription i should be able to open the attachments in desktop apps, but there is an issue where if i open any attachment from my licensed account it allows me, but in the same outlook if i go to another account (you can add multiple accounts but can have same license) it doesnt open in the desktop apps. I am attaching a few screenshots which might help you out understand the problem. So i want to know if there is an option to open all attachments in desktop apps as the old outlook used to, or anyway to activate the non license account

Unless they are going to bring all of the traditional desktop features to the (essentially) PWA "New" Outlook, most people are going to stick to the classic version. Especially in corporate settings where NOBODY wants to lose precious time learning a whole new interface for no actually good reason besides, "Uh, it's new, eh?"

I miss the Outlook versions from 2003, 2007, and 2010. They were more readable with their 3D-style buttons. The newer Outlook interface has been flattened to a 2D design, likely to resemble a web interface and align with the Metro look from Windows 8....

One thing I don't understand about the new version, the shortcuts to other apps on the left hand side open to web versions of the app, not the local desktop versions (ie Onenote) - in the "Old" Outlook they opened the desktop versions. As someone who uses Onenote all the time I'm unable to add a shortcut, it's under the "more shortcuts" - Not too keen on this new version, as you mention they seem to be pushing towards all web apps

Nice and clear explanation of the new features! Nice thanks. Just a quick thing: If you use categories, but also a completed folder with subfolders with customer names, is you finished an email in categorie ‘needs reply’, what would be the next efficient step to have the mail moved to folder ‘completed’ and subfolder ‘customer A’? As it should be removed from categorie ‘needs reply’
