Every pro should do a video like this. I loved hearing about the gear ur using and getting the insight of what a pro is doing while they do a practice session.the commentary after the fact I think works great. That way ur not interrupting ur practice session

The more I watch your videos, the more I realize that there’s so many little things that you put together to form a good stroke. How you hold the cue, the angle of your wrist, your follow through, your elbow position, your backswing, etc. I notice that on my backswing I have a habit of pulling my hand away from my body, I guess it’s to compensate for the cue to pass by my hip so it won’t bump it. I constantly have to practice pulling the cue back straight and sometimes it gets on my nerves so bad. Like you said, it’s practice practice practice! Thank you Max!

I used to shoot at pool sharks a couple nights per week. Griff’s was a huge upgrade. No smoke and a really well done pool hall. I hang out at Red Shoes these days in Illinois. Not as nice as Griff’s but a really cool place with good people.

Hello Max. I recently discovered your channel and I have to say how great your videos are and the simplistic way you explain things. Your teaching style and explanations are SO EASILY understood by someone such as myself. I am a fairly decent novice player trying my very best to step up my game in order to advance to the next level. I just recently purchased a very nice brand new Meucci cue $$$$$. I also just found, and purchased, a beautiful slightly used Spencer Marston 8' Stratford pool table for my house that I got for 1/10th of its retail value!!! I am also very glad that you too prefer Meucci cues which makes me feel that much better about them and what I paid for one (ouch!!...lol). I love my new Meucci. There is definitely a learning curve involved vs. playing with the cheap Walmart special $29 dollar cues that I've been using for quite awhile..lol. Learning the natural pivot point (NOT the balance point) of this new Meucci cue, in order to take advantage of its low deflection 12.5mm pro shaft, has made a daylight and dark difference in controlling the cue ball should I slightly mishit it during a bit more powerful stroke when needed (I hope I am explaining this correctly and it makes sense....:) I am also very interested in experimenting with the weight of my new Meucci, which is exactly 19.4 oz., but I'm just not exactly sure how to go about doing that without affecting the playing characteristics of the cue as you mentioned in this video. Anyway, thank you for the great videos and please keep them coming!!! Thanks!

Hey Max, What advantage is there in using a cue extension? How long is your extension?
@MaxEberle
@MaxEberle Жыл бұрын
This is a 6 inch…. Well better reach on a lot of shots and feels good for shot making… but cue ball control may suffer sometimes, maybe.

Are you aligning the cue ball on the 1st diamond on the short rail and the 2nd diamond on the long rail for breaking? And would that also apply for 8ball? Great vid any feedback is welcomed
@MaxEberle
@MaxEberle 9 ай бұрын
No, I'm aligning the cue ball on the line between the first diamond and the 9-Ball... same as the matchroom 9ball break box. For 8-Ball my best success is from dead center or one ball away from dead center. If that fails move near the side rail and hit the second ball as full as you can with deep draw. The patterns are tougher but fun and you may make a ball when they are not dropping with the center explosion break.

Hi Max, I am curious what shaft you are playing on your cue. Is it a normal solid maple or a low deflection one?
@MaxEberle
@MaxEberle Жыл бұрын
It’s a relatively low deflection solid shaft except for the short soft wood insert near the top to reduce deflection. It’s the “THE PRO” shaft by Meucci Custom Cues.

What helps me with the cut shots like this, is to make sure the power is towards the end of your stroke, (aka perfect timing). Take all the punch out of the hit and incorporate a super smooth delivery. Everything slow and steady up until that point. Really, this should be done on all of the shots, but it is critical on sharp cuts. Sorry for the criticism Max, I love you, but that quick backstroke will make those cut shots much harder to make.
@MaxEberle
@MaxEberle Жыл бұрын
Are you saying I have a fast back stroke here?
@NefariousMinds
@NefariousMinds Жыл бұрын
I had to go back and look again. Yes, in my opinion, your back stroke is a little fast. However, your forward stroke is way too fast. Or maybe it starts too fast. Not sure how to explain it. Hypothetically, It's like starting your stroke at 30mph and accelerating to 50mph. And I'm suggesting starting your stroke at 2mph and accelerate to 50mph. Usually people do this when their back stroke is shorter. On short backstroke the acceleration needs to be abrupt. On a longer back stroke, you ease into the acceleration. There is a small moment of free fall going into the forward stroke. When you ease into the acceleration you can stay on your line better.
@MaxEberle
@MaxEberle Жыл бұрын
@@NefariousMinds Makes sense. The short backswing is something I had just been experimenting with. Traditionally I've had a faster than normal backswing, but also have had precise cue ball control and accurate shot making. Where I get into trouble is when I go faster than normal even for myself, especially under pressure. So I've purposefully slowed down my backswing way down this year and it's been good. But also a friend was watching me and said when I go really slow my shot-making isn't as reliable as the medium speed backswing... There's a lot to consider in pool. And you'll see top players like Orcullo and SVB have rather fast backswings as well. The difference with Shane is that he pauses at the end of the backswing after a fast backswing. I like doing that too, for practice anyway. I don't think my forward stroke is too jumpy but in this video it could be with my backswing being so much shorter, it is pretty weird if you're used to coming back all the way. Thanks for your observations, keep em coming in the future!
@NefariousMinds
@NefariousMinds Жыл бұрын
@@MaxEberle When looking at SVB's stroke, you can see that his acceleration speed is exactly what I'm referring to. He comes in slow on the forward stroke before accelerating and completing the stroke. He also drops his elbow on the back swing. He can get away with this because he makes sure his shoulder blade stays perfectly still. I never heard of anyone mentioning, that keeping your shoulder blade in position, will make you incredibly accurate. I have heard of coaches saying not to move your shoulder, but not specifically the shoulder blade. I actually made this discovery on my own. Have you heard of this?

Hi Max! So if I heard right , you don't have much of a backswing because the table is so fast? Wouldn't that lead to a jerky or poke stroke? Especially for us amateurs
@MaxEberle
@MaxEberle Жыл бұрын
Well it could Frank. It's just another way to do it. In the past I didn't do that much but now I find it helps in certain conditions. It's not necessarily a poke if you follow through...
