That was a pretty good list. I'd say a lot of returning riders are similar to myself where they sell the bike when they have a young family and get back in once kids are grown up or they retire. In a lot of cases the bikes that were cool when we were riding are still the ones we find the best looking. For myself it was a 32 year old GSX1100F, and I still prefer that look to most new bikes. At some point in the future I could see myself on a FJR1300, a Concours 1400, or even a BMW K1600GT. Old guys like me remember the power and torque of their last bike, but still like some real comfort for longer trips.

I got myself a CB1000R coming back to riding after 35 years (I'm 56). A lovely bike. I got it over the 650, simply because it's more comfortable for me, being 6' tall. I just felt a bit cramped on the 650 although I was just about to buy a new one. Then I found, purely by coincidence, a used CB1000R (2020 model) and I was instantly in love. More comfortable and better looking too. So, that's my "return to riding" bike.

Sold my 2008 Concours 14 about 4yrs ago. Just bought a $3500 2012 NC700X for "mostly" high gas price reasons. And if I don't end up recouping all the costs, I will still save enough money to make the purchase that much better of a value vs 20mpg of our two main vehicles. Feels good to be on 2 wheels again and crazy the value I am finding in used gear. Trying to keep things somewhat on the budget side. And wow what a difference the NC700X is over the C14. Have head to toe gear again and getting my mind back into the riding not driving mindset. Need to make it home for the fam. I am thinking there is a fair chance that gas prices can jump quite a bit more in the coming months so wanted a 60+ MPG ride and before summer prices hit in both the gas and MC market.

Look for videos about the Sondors all electric motorcycle coming out soon. 80 miles of range, 80 mph top speed, $5000. The seat is very thin so shorter riders can touch the ground with their feet easier.

650? Z650, SV650, Ninja 650, etc. Don't know if they're significantly more roomy than a 400. You might have to go up to a 900 or something.

Hey papa yam, how would you feel about Honda uping the cb650r to a 750? Maybe stroke it out a little more to get more low-mid range torque. And also bring the horsepower above 100 to compete with more middleweight bikes? Think it would be a good change?
@pjakobs
@pjakobs 3 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of larger bikes available, not the least the CB1000R. The beauty of the 650 is it's playfulness and it's rev happy engine. I have had mine for just under two years now and it still put a huge smile on my face when the rev counter passes 6500.
@toofastnobrakes
@toofastnobrakes 3 жыл бұрын
@@pjakobs it is a wonderful bike, I own and 2019 myself. but I believe the bump to 750 makes a lot of sense for Honda. The bike places itself in this odd spot being a 650, making more power than the rest, but being much more expensive. And being priced with middleweight bikes like the mt-09, z900, and gsxs 750. But not near the power “more specifically torque” of other middleweights. The 100cc bump “with more focus one engine stroke” would really pep the bike up more in the low to mid revs, but retain that top end pull. And put it thoroughly in the range of the bikes it competes with price wise. And not to mention the original cb750 was an icon. And bringing a cb750r into the line up would turn heads with the name alone. As far as the cb1000r goes it’s in the same predicament. Low power numbers when compared to competitors. A tune up or even a the same 100cc displacement bump Would serve it well “cb1100 is also a classic moniker” uping low and top end power and attracting riders looking for more of a thrill.

I'm 51, I've been off the bikes for 10+ years, my budget for a 60km daily commuter is up to an mt-07 which with it's 70+hp seems ok but, for some reason, it seems to me that the Duke 390 will be more fun. All my bikes in the past were big, heavy nakeds usually modified (last one a ZRX1200R which i loved but a pain in the heavy traffic) now i want to try something light, agile and playful, and the duke seems to me better in this aspect than the mt-07 even though it's weaker. Does anyone agree with this? I never had a bike like this in the past and, who knows, after my "break in" period maybe i will even get to learn how to do a proper wheelie, finally! 🙂 😀
