Both Shelbys were hugely missed opportunities, as were the Alfa & M1.

there are many that should ve been made. 100% agreed with the presented ones, but take the stingray concept for instance, or the Volvo concept estate, ford forty-nine, Lancia Fulvia, Lamborghini asterion (if it qualifies retro), vw minibus, Dodge Charger concept, chevy nomad, Chrysler Atlantic, caddy sixteen, Chrysler phaeton, ford 427 etc

There's one retro concept car that I absolutely love and is missing (although not forcefully "just like the old one"): the Maserati Birdcage 75th!

The top 2 cars in this vid are obviously the Ford Shelby Cobra and the Shelby GR-1... beautiful and brutal American made horsepower, both of em are incredible machines....

So disappointing BMW didn't build that M1 with the s85 :( A true halo car and competitor to the R8, 911 turbo, etc. something went very wrong with management circa 2010 and we got things like the i8 and gesture control instead

The BMW I8 was one of the biggest misfires in car history. They could’ve made a very similar car with a turbo inline 6 or the V10 from the M5 and it would’ve been glorious as a M1 successor.

I don't mind that the M1 Homage didn't reach production, the i8 does the job well enough while being original at the same time, even if the performance isn't as many hoped.

Retro can NEVER be done right. Retro is a bankruptcy declaration of designer's innovation.

Bugatti Atlantic Concept would have been a worthy mention

The Holden Effigy looks more inspired by the '49-'52 Chevrolet Fleetline, not the dumpy Holden shown, which obviously was a smaller, but just as tall, copy of the Chevrolet's 4 door Styleline.

It's not like I mind it if anything new is cool, but it so rarely is. Retro styling at least has a chance of really hitting, (Personally I think that Cobra's hideous in and out, but something like the Daytona coupe could have been a cool touring alternative to the GT40 impracticality if they'd made it a bit more liveable instead of competing for ultra-low shape.) The real problem is if everyone designs the new solely around the laws of physics, they can't help but look the same. At least trying to resemble something unique tends to challenge the designers to not make everything a five-door crossover.

The Hyundai Grandeur Heritage EV Concept gives me goosebumps. Looks like its out of Cyberpunk2077 and I would do many MANY things to own that car.

Lambo should have made the Miura, as a Lightweight Special, built to order, not a production run, where the new Countach is just rebodied boring Audi-Lambo. The Shelby Cobra V10 was out of the Trucks, part of the 'Modular' series, and not a bespoke engine for the sportscar. The GR1 is the one that should have been made. The Efijy was NEVER a concept car or ever intended for any sort of production, it was basically a group of engineers at Holden doing their version of a Street Rod on their own time. The 504 looks like a rework of the Datto 510 concept.

That Miura reboot is the biggest missed opportunity of this bunch. By far the most beautiful and well-designed. Both of those Shelbys were garbage. It was well-reported when they were unveiled that they were hastily and poorly constructed.
