$65,000 worth of work on this hoarder house, tearing out the furnace, ducts, drywall, ceiling, trim, most of the flooring, kitchen, bathrooms, etc. NINE dumpsters worth of clean out, dead cats :-(, human waste... But, the most important lesson I learned in real estate is to not judge others on how they live, there just might be a way to help them out!

@@rosenbaum75 Do you? Are you stupid? A lot hoarders give human attributes to their possessions. Either they apply too much sentimental value to their trash or they treat it like it's a living thing with emotions and fear that if they get rid of it they're betraying it in a way.

And also, even if the appearance looks fine now, I wonder if there have been air quality tests done to check for mold. I lived in a "moldy" house. It looked clean but 2 floors down, lurked mold in the basement and caused me to be sick for years and have 4 sinus surgeries. It can come up through the house structurally.

People who are allergic to cats are allergic to their saliva and urine. Someone with serious vat allergies could get sick from living in there. Also any cat in future may smell the urine (undetectable to us), and start peeing to mark its territory.

babyparabola Your are exactly right. I'd never want to own that home just because of the wood floors. Cat pee seeped into the cracks in that floor, I guarantee you. A new cat or dog in that house will pee on that floor.
@b_uppy
@b_uppy 7 жыл бұрын
babyparabola Normally after it has been DRIED for 6 weeks the cat smell will dissipate. An enzymatic cleaner like Kids And Pets used liberally would help also. Prepping and painting the walls will remove allergens from the walls. Stripping, cleaning and resurfacing the floor with polyurethane will seal out smells and remove allergens also. Problems with cats come when using materials like carpeting and textured wallpapers which are harder to successfully clean.
@thefemalien7764

Sharon Martin That would mean my new cats would pee in my house everytime too as I'm sure they could smell a different cat had previously been there. None of them did, even when one of my cats sometimes and very rarely had a little accident.

Diana Gonzalez Mental illness left unchecked will make you feel ok with whatever. Trust me. I used to be a hoarder and no one chooses it. I lost both my mom and my grandma within a year and a half of each other, on top of a lifelong deep sadness ... it was years of damage and constantly clawing my way out of my own mind. Having a house fire, losing our pets, pictures and important documents, *everything* was awful. Getting medicated, in therapy, and our house rebuilt helped me learn to deal with life (and the people in it) in healthier ways.

I can c hoarding things of value but Y would any 1 hoard trash. A friend asked me 2 help clean her aunts house 4 $100 so I cleaned a house like that. Not with a broom & dust pan but a shovel & rake. The first thing I did was pick up & removing all the trash. Suddenly after 13 huge leaf trash bags full of garbage I finaly was able 2 c a floor. As I was cleaning I started 2 feel depressed & hopeless I kept slipping, falling, things would fall on me. Mice & mice poop was every where. I could feel the stench sticking 2 my hair & body. I was able 2 clean out the kitchen & the living room. My body ached I felt filthy, eghusted & a bit sick. That day I drug out 27 huge bags of trash. I planned on going back the next day & doing more cleaning. My friend called that eveing & said her aunt accused me of stealing from her & wasnt going 2 pay me any thing. Her aunt hauled the 27 bags of trash back in the house. She said she wanted 2 look thru them & c if I thru out things she may have wanted. 2 this day my friend says the 27 huge trash bags r still setting piled up by the front door & r covered up with more trash. How could any 1 live in 3 ft, deep of trash. I think they have a delusion of thinking there r things of value mixed in with the junk & trash. Wow I really feel better just getting that off my chest.

Sally May ...Your friend aunt is probably mentally sick. This is hoarding- mental disorder.It is very hard to work with them.They need to go for therapy ... and than start the cleaning.Cognitive behavioral therapy and probably other treatments and therapy’s . She maybe has some dementia too (accusation about stealing ). Hoarding comes usually with others disorders. I just try to help. Read about this, on internet is a lot. I’m sorry for what happened to you. It is better not to work with hoarders, specialist know better how to handle them. This way people are paid etc. You and your friend didn’t know that perhaps ? The best wishes for you.

Currently doing my future mother-in-law's house. Essentially the house has become a 2500sq ft. storage unit/dumpster, it is also a mobile home built in the 1970s, which in my personal opinion, isn't worth fooling with, I suggested bulldozing and putting a 800sq ft singlewide in, they're in their late 70s and there's no need for a huge place to live. Luckily for us she is rehabbing in a rest home after a knee replacement, so far we have hauled out about 25 55g bags of trash, junk, rat poop, etc. We are using the forgiveness is easier than permission method, sadly both my better half and I work full time jobs, so we work 2-3 hours an evening and work on the weekends, time is starting to run short, so we have to work fast before she comes back and literally halts us. We have salvaged items of value and plan to have a yard sale in the future, but the original curtains, carpets, even the furniture is leaving and never coming back...and this is just the living room. We wear gloves and respirators too, breathing normally makes your sinuses burn!

The number one thing I would advise anyone looking to buy a home [unless you are buying a fixer upper] ... ask about the wiring first, then any renovations, mold inspections, radon, etc. Ask to see if everything is up to code. If the realtor is really willing to sell you that home, they will provide the paperwork giving dates of work done and inspection certificates for all of it. You are entitled to it by law. I know this is important, because I bought a home with a lot of hidden problems ... eventually and unfortunately, it took an electrical fire to make me a believer.

Kilz is an amazing product. I've been through something similar with a home I purchased. The smell of urine from previous owners pets was unbearable in one of the rooms. All I could do is run into the room, open the windows and run back out. Two days later, I pulled up all the carpet and painted the floor and up the walls. It completely seals everything up and the smell is gone.

Unbelievable! The thing is on an old house even after it's fixed up can you really get the bugs out? I mean crawling bugs. Bugs seem to get in old houses much easier than on new houses.

This is a mild version of hoarding. But still. I'd say it's more dirty and needs cleaned and tidyed up.

It's great that they were able to fix that house. But my question is, did the people make it nasty all over again?

I think it sold to a different owner. That's what this guy does - fix up houses and sell them.
