J.K Rowling created a magical world of wizards, half bloods, and muggles for us all to dream about. From Hogwarts to Gringotts, she thought of everything. It is one of the best crafted series and most accurately thought out, but there are still a few plot holes and mysteries that us hardcore fans caught after watching for the...we can’t admit that number...time.
So we’re here to reveal all those juicy moments that you may have missed or maybe you’ve caught them yourself! From Peter Pettigrew to Sirius Black and the Polyjuice Potion, there are just a few things that aren’t adding up. Rowling herself has even admitted to a couple slip ups that the series holds. Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and the Boy Who Lived himself traveling about with Horcruxes, avoiding Voldemort, thinking about Dumbledore and worrying about Dementors is all fine...but what about Mad Eye Moody and the Invisibility Cloak? Or the mishap in the Marauders Map in the first film? Or why do Port Keys seem to function differently between movies? What was the slip up that caused Lily and James Potter their own lives? And who is the Elder Wands true owner? And why were Thestrals only seen so late by Potter? What about Neville’s horrors of the past being brought up by Dementors? There is also a simple solution using the Unbreakable Vow that we’re happy slipped through the dark sides thoughts.

Explanation for the twins not seeing peter on the map is that the marauders could have put a spell on that their location doesn't show up to anyone who isn't a marauder or a blood relative. Think about it the marauders wouldn't want it to be used against them.

The Portkeys to the Quidditch Cup were all scheduled due to the sheer amount of people coming to the cup. Most Portkeys work by touching it and are not scheduled to specific times.

@Baldur Lmao no but it is a prerequisite if youre going to make a 12 minute video on "pLoT hOlEs" and not specify it to ONLY the movies. Almost every "plot hole" he brings up is either explained or discussed enough in the books that you can make your own conclusions. Its frustrating

Public portkeys are timed actually. It’s the fourth book that says something like “well you can’t just leave them anywhere for any muggle to pick up.” So they’re in secluded places and times. Because what if the wizards didn’t make it? The portkey would sit there until someone picked it up

Neville's parents were captured and taken away to be tortured for information. Neville wasn't present when it happened, so no horrible memories to relive when Dementors come around.

You're welcome. :) I remember from the books/movies Karkorov at his questioning (trial/sentencing?) his naming who it was that "captured and tortured by Bellatrix, Rodolphus, and Rabastan Lestrange, the Auror Frank Longbottom and his wife Alice", as evidence to prove he had changed allegiance from the Dark Lord. plainly stated they were CAPTURED, and that Neville was not mentioned as being captured with them, nor tortured himself, nor that he witnessed their torture.

Actually if you're a diehard Harry Potter fan, Harry only saw his Mom die. His dad was actually killed while trying to stop Voldemort when he came into their house but sadly left his wand and suffered for it

@@marmitaa8619 he never lost his wand to harry. Books explain it more. I'm a big Harry Potter fan and felt the movies were a let down. Especially the end. The whole point of destroying horcruxes was to make him human and he turns to flaky skin? He just falls to the floor dead like a normal human hit with a killing curse in the book

@@Summer-uq1vr Very true. One thing to remember though is that these sort of criticisms are media specific. So they're not claiming that the author created plot holes, but that the filmmaker did. People also seem to treat the criticism as all encompassing when it's not.

I like the theory that Harry reacts to dementors this strongly because of Voldemorts soul. Harry has more than 1 soul in him and this makes him attractive for dementors, and what he sees can actually be Voldemorts memories of dying.

Plus, there is a BIG difference between SORROW, which is the case with Neville, because he didn't have the love of parents while growing up but had to go visit them in St Mungo's, and HORROR, which was the case with Harry, for he still had nightmares of the day his parents died, and was tortured by his so-called family for years, and much, much more.

The triwizard cup port-key probably had two port-key spells on it. The one to take Harry to the cemetery (placed on it by Barty crouch jr) and the one to bring the victor of the race back to the beginning of the maze (placed on it by the judges of the tournament) so the spells were activated in the order they were cast.

Leann Kennett I was about to post this--you beat me. The cup being a portkey was a final twist that no one knew about, except the professors. That is how Dumbledore knew to go look for "Moody" after Harry and Cedric's body showed up together at the end. Moody was the one who insisted of placing the cup at the center of the maze--he was the only one who had time to cast another portkey spell on the cup.

The other point about the time limit is also simple: Portkeys are regulated by the Department of Magical Transportation, so they set the object, location, and time. The time aspect is very important because if they just had a tin can as a portkey sitting in an alley, any muggle could touch it and get transported by it. Setting a specific time guarantees that only wizards that know about it will be able to use it since they will be gathered around it before the time it activates.

I figure the portkey spell, like the champion selection spell was confunded, so that the next time it was touched it would go to the graveyard, but it was still a portkey to the front of the maze.

For the last point there is an interesting theory: The portkey was originally designed to teleport the person who touches the cup first back to the entrance of the maze, so everybody can see who the winner is. There is no point if the person touches the cup in the middle of the maze and nobody can see him touching it. Mad-Eye (Barty Crouch Jr.) bewitched the portkey so that the person who touches it first would be transfered to the graveyard instead. But the original function of the portkey (Cup) was still intact. Just to make it clear: Plan of the ministry: Middle of the Maze => Entrance of the Maze, so the winner could be crowned Voldemorts plan: Middle of the Maze => Graveyard => Entrance of the Maze, to send back a Fake Harry Potter Voldemorts plan in detail: Voldemort made sure with the help of Barty Crouch Jr. (MadEye Moody) that Harry would be the first to touch the Cup (Portkey). He wanted to kill Harry easily and ordered Peter Pettigrew to drink Polyjuice-potion to become "Harry Potter". Then Peter would travel back using the portkey. At the entrance of the maze everybody would believe that Harry won the tournemant while the real Harry was already dead at the Graveyard. Peter spend enough time next to Ron and Hermione (he was Rons Rat) so it would be easy for him to pose as the real Harry Potter. This whole thing would give Voldemort enough time to prepare the attack on the wizarding world. Once Dumbledore would realize that the Harry that came back was an imposter it would be too late. Remember: Voldemort always liked to operate from the shadows.

Wait... is this legit? I don't remember this being written anywhere. Also how did Voldemort guarantee Harry would win? Even with people kind of helping him from the sidelines, he still barely won by a hair. He could have been killed or injured by any number of things in the maze, not to mention the dragon. There's really no reason to assume he would be the winner of the tournament.

The answer to all these Plotholes: Lacking details that are either in the books or in the lore from J.K. Herself. Also, Olivander doesn't use Thestral Hairs! The only Thestral Hair wand in existence is the Elder Wand.

Twitter, interviews, and Pottermore are not Cannon. If the book explained elder wand progression is true, Dumbledore --> Draco --> Harry. Harry never stole the Elder wand from Draco as Voldy had it. So anytime anyone disarmed Harry by tackling him, or disarming Harry for the rest of his life as a Auror, his short tempered life partner Ginny, his Jelous friend Ron, or unknown criminal tracked down as Auror, the elder wand would move to this person just as it transfers from Draco to Harry. This sets up the only way to end the line, save us from Crused Child... and maybe even names like Lily Luna and James Sirius, is for HP to finally do something in the entire series besides be brave, and take his own life. Then the wand cannot be taken from the last owner.

Harry probably felt the effects of the dementors more than anyone because of the fact he had two souls inside him. Nobody (Not even Dumbledore) wanted Harry to know. Not just to protect him but so he could die at the right time.

Ollivander says himself in a book, I forgot which one, that he gets most of his wand cores himself. He states that a unicorn that he was taking a tail hair from "almost killed him with a nasty and well-placed kick". That explains why the wands cost less than the cores.

With his mother, he was too young to remember seeing her die. With Cedric, maybe at the end of his 4th year, it hadn't sunk in yet, but by the beginning of his 5th year, it had.

Harry wouldn't have seen thestrals in Philosopher's Stone because first years arrive by boat across the lake but they never said how they left the school grounds in ANY book. in Chamber of Secrets, Harry and Ron arrived by flying car. In Prisoner, Harry's unconscious when he arrives. Which is why he doesn't see them till Order of the Phoenix Neville is only one day older than Harry. Why didn't "He who must not me named" use the Unbreakable Vow on the Death Eaters? Because he didn't need to. They fear him MUCH more than to betray him. Why wasn't Neville affected by the dementors? Who says he wasn't. We just don't know.

It is written in the book you have to understand death and why it happens a one year can't understand everything, and Harry could not get over Cedrics death until the summer.

Also, (since this is a video about the MOVIES, I won't use book evidence) we never have confirmation that Neville WASN'T affected as strongly as Harry. For all we know, he was. (Assuming he was there during the torturing, but again, as you said, he was NOT.)

Not only did Harry need to die but JK Rowling also revealed that Harry was never a proper Horcrux, he was a sort of a container to hold the horcrux

floooooooooooooooood Everyone knew that Lily and James would put up a fight if asked about it, Sirius and Remus included, meaning it would be incredibly hard to get info from them. Pettigrew, however, was the one considered to be most weak, and he was, so they presumed people would see him as the the most 'least likely' tonkeep the secret. They overlooked his cowardice and thought that as they would do anything for him, he would do anything for them.....but no. We all hate Pettigrew!!!!!

Emily Chapple but that still makes the plot hole why did they tell anyone where they were I mean ffs lilly and James would not betray each other so naturally they should not have told anyone put James as said keeper and left it at that but hey the books wouldn't be interesting if plot holes were not there some JK either couldn't fix without making it boring or she wanted a few holes in it for discussion its one of the things that keep this series popular is endless debates on plot holes you wouldn't talk much about a movie otherwise

Polyjuice potion is difficult and time consuming to create. Hermione is known as being the brightest witch of her age and known for knowing everything. She and Bartie crouch Jr both had to steal from Snapes private stores to brew it so I imagine some of the ingredients were hard to find and Black may not have the potions skill to brew it.

Only Marauders can see other Marauders on the map.. The scene in the movie where Scabbers is running through the halls and Harry is going after him? Doesn't happen in the books. Even if it did, you could wright it off as Jame's legacy as a Marauder being passed down to Harry.

Peter Pettigrew is actually very easy to explain....... Hogwarts has lots of ghosts, Ghosts and Peeves do show up on the map....Peter was a gryffindor who died.. They probably thought Peter was a ghost and from the twins perspective has always been there (he was with Percy too) They didn't put much thought in to it (not all the ghosts are always seen). I'm pretty sure Scabbers wasn't with Ron 24/7.......

Maybe, and if map was only for marauders, I think that explanation can be really as simple as Fred and George was always doing a lot of funny stuff, when they was not in the class. So not paying attention to every name on the map makes sense, and yeah, ron was not with Scabbers all the time. It actually looks like he was not with his rat most of the time. And maybe Scabbers was regularly traweling around and outside of hogwards. + Fred and George did not know who Peter was.

Where does it say that Grindewald stunned Gregorovich? I was under the impression he (Grindewald) crept into Gregorovich's home and stole the wand and Gregorovich almost caught up to him before Grindewald jumped from the window (as seen in the Films and described in the Books). That in itself, if true, could have changed various other historic points to match up with what we know about Wand Lore although would not have impacted the actual ending of the book.. It's a minor but interesting theory. Dumbledore managed to best Grindewald in a duel while Grindewald had the Elder Wand and I liked the theory that he managed it because Grindewald *stole* the wand and did not earn it by forcefully taking it from it's previous master meaning the Elder Wand did not recognise Grindewald as its true master, much like it didn't recognise Voldemort as the true owner either.. I believe the Elder Wand would then have chosen Dumbledore as it's master by recognising him as a powerful Wizard who bested the person who held the Wand prior, disregarding who had the wands allegiance.

@@yashikazmi This. Portkeys don't have to have a time set up. They just do it for public portkeys so that people arent taking them one by one and the portkey not going back. It's much easier to be able to allow many people to touch a portkey before a specific time and transport them all at once.

Everyone assumed Peter Petigrew was killed by Sirius, so maybe when they saw his name, and asked who he was, they were told he was dead, and then assumed it was a ghost haunting Ron. A ghost haunting Ron would be a big scare for Ron and great fun for them. To even make it more plausible, the bed Ron was sleeping in could have once been Peter's bed when he was at Hogwarts, and was returning to his bed in ghost form. moaning myrtle was a student who still haunts the castle.

According to some comments it's seems that JK Rowling said, the Marauders could only be seen on the map by themselves. Which makes sense bcs Fred&George didnt see him and Harry too! Only Lupin could see him. Also bcs Harry couldn't see Peter he also was unable to see Sirius Black. I mean c'mon he otherwise would have seen Sirius and chased him. If all makes sense with the books!

Just as a side note, if Olivanders wands choose the wizard,i wonder if they take in to account the wizards ability to pay for the wand. I assume some wands are more expensive and some are moderately priced. Or theres a set price no matter how fancy or rare they are.

Also people forget the ingredients for polyjuice potion aren't normal potion ingredients in both the cases of it being brewed at the school rare ingredients were stolen from Snape. I'm sure if they went to the apothecary asking for some of this stuff they would be targeted by the ministry.

if you need to refer to the source material for an adaptation of it then it has failed as you shouldn't need to. the adaptation should be doing a good job to keep the viewer informed as if it was the only source when revealing info as a medium.

No he doesn't. He only uses unicorn hair, dragon heartstring, and phoenix feathers. The Elder Wand has a thestral hair core, but it was not made by Ollivander. "I concluded that only three substances produce wands of the quality to which I am happy to give the illustrious name of Ollivander: unicorn hair, dragon heartstring and phoenix feather." Not true. Dual wielding, as it is known, requires focus, magical control, and a high power level. While uncommon, it isn't impossible, although holding both wands in one hand is rather hard.

The mechanic with wands getting new owners and losing allegiance when their master is disarmed or defeated opens up a whole can of problems, issues and plot holes. Just my personal opinion and theory is that the Elder Wand was unique and a bit extreme in this regard, it was basically made to corrupt and made to not belong to any one master. It changes allegiance so often and easily. I am assuming normal wands doesn't do this. Just one person disarming you, whether its in practice or a mugging or a real battle, and you lose your wands allegiance forever? It never works as good again? Is tainted forever? How come school students aren't just griefing each other by disarming or stunning them from behind to "steal" their wands; just screw with them? There are so many problems here. "The wand chooses the master" I would assume is a one time thing when they are children, and it normally sticks with them for the rest of their lives.

The way I've understood it as working is that once a wand has been won from its master, it will then also work for the one who disarmed them. There are still a whole lot of complications from this plot point, though.

Wands are an extremely difficult thing to do and understand, and if you go check a bit on Pottermore, you'll see that what make a wand change the wand's behavior. Some wands tends to be a lot more loyal than others, and some very rares wands are seeking for the most powerful owners they can find. Wands are perfectly able to think by themselves and to make decisions, and so, "the wand choses the master" is something that can happen more than once. My theory is, the Elder Wand, being conscious that it is the more powerful wand ever, is seeking for the most powerful owner possible, and so, leave their owners the moment it feels them weak or beaten.

Harry was never the true owner. Nobody can be the true owner of the Elder wand. If the current owner is disarmed or killed by another, then he becomes the new owner. Draco disarmed Dumbledore, which made him the new owner, and Harry disarmed/took/snatched the wand from Draco, which made him the new owner. Since no one else disarmed Harry, so he was it's last owner, but never the true.

The reason why Harry didn't see Thestrals until the beginning of his 5th year is because one also has to go through grief, undertanding, and then move on. However, he still wasn't the same at the end of the school year.

Rowling has said multiple times that, to see thestrals you need to understand that somebody is dying and then process it. Harry didn’t understand his parents dying bc he was only a baby. He only remembers that something bad happened (and their screams) and afterwards understood their deaths.

Wormtails Weird Bed - "There really is no explanation for it to make sense". Ok, easy. Only the Marauders can see each other on the map just in case someone came across the map. "But Harry see's him" No that's the movie, only Lupin see's him. Somehow the hardest to explain plot hole is not a plot hole... good going Screen Rant.

The elder wand is known to change allegiance more easily than any other wand, same with Draco's pliant unicorn hair wand, unicorn hair wands are more likely to change allegiance than others and Draco's was also pliant so that makes it even easier for it to change allegiance. They disarmed Bellatrix too but her wand still remained loyal to her because unyielding dragon heartstring wands are much less likely to change allegiance even if won in battle.

The reason Neville wasn't affected by it is because Neville didn't see or hear his parents being tortured but Harry did

polyjuice potions only work for those who are humans. animagi are considered to be part animal, so Sirius couldn't transform his appearance to look like anyone else. It's like Hagrid, who couldn't transform into Harry in the 7 Potters scene.

Something I always found strange was Hermione telling the teachers she had went after the troll to take the blame for Harry and Ron being there. She could have done that by telling the truth: She didn't know the troll was there.

Whoaaa true. Why did she lie? Maybe she thought the truth would be unsatisfactory as an explanation. What happened was that everyone was warned about the troll but she didn't get the memo because she skipped dinner to cry in the bathroom. Maybe saying sorry I was in the bathroom the whole time just wouldn't be good enough? idk.

I'd say, maybe not true idk, Peter, as one of the creators, knew how to hide himself from the map, and only when he escaped in fear of Sirius let his location slip to the map.

Its explained in the book that the reason they have a set time to use the portkey is because the ministry doesnt want too many people arriving by portkey or disaparition at the same time in an attempt to conseal the arrival of magical folk from muggles.

Actually they Did always saw Peter with them, but remember in the 1st part when Ron introduces his rat for the first time to Harry, He says that Percy says that it isn't a real mouse As earlier no Weasley kid had known who was Peter As he was not very famous among the wizards

Well here’s why Harry’s most affected by the Dementors. Voldemort lived inside him, and Voldemort’s true pain/horrible memory was turning Harry into a Holcrux, and due to this, Harry and Voldemort are both affected by the dementors

Killerrobot925 actually, Harry was most affected by the dementors because he was there when his mum died so the dementors brought the memory to the surface. The worse you’ve been through, the more they affect you

The reason why Nevel wasn’t as much effected by the dementors is because he didn’t actually see what happened to his parents.
