10th kind: Incineration toilet. I have one on my boat (Incinolet). No plumbing at all. The purchase cost was significant, but I liked the simplicity and reliability of it. Only good if you have plenty of electricity because it takes some power to reduce all the waste to ash. In my case we have plenty of battery power so no worries.

Excellent video. I have extensive experience with all kinds of heads, having worked for 30 years in the marine industry, and being a certified 'Vacuflush' installer. In my own RV, I have elected the Natures Head Composting unit, and am working on two unavailable upgrades for it, but that's a story for another day. I really enjoyed seeing the variety of new heads available now, and especially liked the very funny final guy. Mentioned my feelings exactly! Great video!!

Thanks for that toilet presentation. We recently finished building our expedition vehicle and for that 7 things were important to us re the toilet: no electrictiy, no water consumption, no chemical treatment, low weight, no smell, easy dumping, no complex mechanic or electronic parts. That automatically led us to a composting toilet. The market leaders are Separett and NatureHead, but there is also a young UK based company called Kildwick, producing nice looking composting toilets. So far we are extremely happy with our Kildwick toilet. Dumping is so easy, its not smelling and we have not to be afraid that something technical can break during our trips. Cheers from Switzerland

@wcarlhepker4806 6 жыл бұрын
I have a neighbor that has a cassette toilet and they love it. They don’t have to have full hook ups and they don’t need to have a honey wagon. They don’t mind taking the cassette to the dump station periodically. I would rather have full hook ups when I am in a campground and finding a dump station when I am boondocking. There are the two sides to the cassette question. From there, it is up to you.

No, it does not turn into compost. That takes 90 days or longer without being used. What you have is still legally classed as "sanitary waste" and it is usually going to be a problem to legally dispose of it. You may have "dried out waste" but the EPA and everyone else says it is NOT compost. Keep that in mind.
@Rvlove
@Rvlove 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your insight on this topic. I agree that it seems many people have too high of use in their composting toilets to allow proper decomposition. We still use regular waste tanks in our RV.
@RoyalHippieGangstercom

I've read a book called the Humanure Handbook. If you want to know how to "thermophilic-ly" compost, that is admirable. If you ignorantly tell the masses that dumping your composting toilet on your plants is okay, you are negligent. (god forbid they be plants people are going to harvest and eat this season) Intelligent minds take measurements (temperature) and let TIME (say 3 years) pass, prior to placing in an edible garden, fruit and nut trees less...but anything less than that, you'd better be taking good measurements and making sure you've created a good habitat for the 'little guys' to do their dirty work...i.e. Bacteria. A composting toilet does no such thing. It's an expensive 5 gallon bucket, with a ton of nooks and crannies. Sure, you get to feel magnanimous while you use one... ...but instead of appropriately dealing with humane waste, you stain dumpsters and landfills. (is the bag you toss your waste out with made of plastic, or something highly biodegradeable?) And finally, tell me about your shit. Well, let's back up. Tell me about the number of toxins in your diet that end up in your shit. Do you eat a clean organic highly alkaline diet free of carcinogens? (are you tom brady?) Do you drown your pain in opiates? Do you solve all emotional concerns with federally approved psychotropics? Now you get the idea. These are the beginning ingredients of you wonderful 'compost. *There are gardeners worldwide envious of excellent compost...because they know, real nutrition is to be gained from it. Stop talkin' shit about how wonderful your shit-bag composting toilets are. Walk a mile into the woods, dig a hole. Already winning.

At least 'cassette shit-packers dispose of it in an acceptable location...check European RV'ing...and the let people who know how to deal with waste, deal with it, appropriately, in systems designed to do so...for quite some time now. - And for what it's worth... *The single best way to deal with human excrement is to be found in the workings of Dr. John Todd using Solar Aquatics. Essentially, Recirculating Aquaculture...for the Toilet. Though not appropriate for RV'ing, it is how these particular set of 'nutrients should be dealt with...small scale, sunshine, water, snails, plants...a mini marsh. This is only my opinion, and I too have butthole...

Julie, you are a year late. I had to replace my RV toilet last year because the discoloration of the plastic bowl got to be more than I could bear. I got a china bowl foot flush and have been happy with it. When I boondock, I usually do it where there is an outhouse provided and I go there for solid waste deposits. This way, I only have liquid in my black tank. That makes it easier all the way around, except on a few occasions when the outhouse was full of mosquitoes!

I plan to go full time next year and will definitely get one! Bonus: allows you to use existing black tank as extra gray tank storage.

@@dkleath8697 Do you mean a regular toilet for use with a septic system? I'm thinking doing maybe someplace out back of my house. I see some people on KZfaq have done it cheaply. At my age and health condition. I don't see travel with mine. Being road worthy is a whole different ballgame than making a quiet solar powered getaway out back in the woods. Just need the right person to pull that one off. unfortunately the septic at my home decided to act up and needs a-fixen now. Typical. But wish you all the best. Good stuff happens too.

We quite like our C-Head, We had a Natures Head before and I it was more difficult to clean has special tanks and much more expensive. The C-head composter uses a Home Depot style 5 gallon bucket and a standard 1 gallon water jug for the urine. I'm making a new style of composting toilet for our second motorhome now that has a bunch of the best ideas we've seen on youtube and other media. Three people full time and we dump the 5 gallon bucket with never any bad odor about every 15 or 20 days.

Hi Bill, Glad you found it so helpful. Hooking up the hose to the waste tanks is actually super easy. Usually just a quarter turn with a bayonette fitting at the RV end, and screwing in at the dump station end (or sometimes just putting a rock or other heavy item on that end so it doesn't move. Then pull the handle on the blade valve to start releasing the contents. It is recommended to open the valve slowly at first to reduce the initial force, especially if not secured firmly by screwing into the dump area. Thank you

Heath is soooo adorable and funny. "It a poop suitcase and carry on.". I was seriously ROFL. Great info. What I am having trouble with is finding a porcelain commode that'll accept an electric bidet toilet seat. Or a bidet toilet for an RV. I thought I saw one in 40ft Cameo 5th wheel. But I don't remember the brand of it. The smallest bidet seats I can find still require a 1.5 inch clearance from the seat screws back. Is there a riser that'll accept longer screws to I can get above the water valve hump thats blocking the bidet seat from fitting. Basically need a riser that can have a toilet seats bolt on from the top. Or info from anyone thats successfully adapted their toilet to accept an electric Bidet seat. We have them in all our home bathrooms and refuse to go back to manual "cleaning". Sure one can use the bowl cleaning spray, but they're only refreshing on hot days. I do travel with one that I attach to virtually any bathroom faucet to get warm water cleaning. But those are not the hands free experience I am used too. Thanks y'all. I look forward to hearing from fellow bidet user's who've found a way to overcome the RV industries prejudice against electric bidet seats. A heated seat is a wonderdul experience during cold nights and days. Cheers from Seattle

Hello Cameron. Sorry but we don't have any awareness of electric bidet compatible RV toilets. Hopefully somebody else reading the comments will have insight to share. Consider reaching out to Dometic directly. Perhaps they would consider producing one.

@@Rvlove Ah hah! This 2" riser may actually work. There is also a 3 inch bolt on riser too. Does the bump on the back of typical RV porcelain toilets rise up more than 3 inches? I didn't check how high it bumps up on the DRV I was looking at. If it's no higher than 2 or 3 inches these (www.homedepot.com/p/Carex-Health-Brands-Hinged-Toilet-Seat-Riser-Elongated-FGB32100-0000/206572494 or the www.homedepot.com/p/DMI-Elongated-Hinged-Elevated-Toilet-Seat-in-White-641-2571-0005/204653100?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal1_rr-_-206572494-_-204653100-_-N) should work in order to add an electric bidet seat. Clearly a 20" aka comfort height toilet will increase to nearly 24-5 inches high with the riser and your choice of bidet seat. So one may want to get a lower height toilet or one of the "Squatty potty" steps to get back to a comfort height. So if some of you reading this can measure the height of the bump behind the seat I would greatly appreciated it. Please not the brand and model of your particular toilet and the bump height why you reply. This will not only help me, it'll help others considering adding an electric bidet to their RV. Yes, the electric bidet seats require 110 power to used the bidet (water heater, pump, heated seat, massage functions and lights) and will require a T valve added to the toilets water supply. For me adding an outlet behind the toilet and the water supply adapter will be easy. Others have run extension cords. You can get away with an extension cord depending on your bathroom layout and access to 110 power. Thank you. Happy holidays! Cheers from Seattle

The hose wand they show on a couple'of the units are actually a bidet system it's one of the types of units you can buy at your local building store Rona in Calgary Alberta had 4 retrofit kits a hose with spray nozzle with or without hot water and a toilet seat model with or without hot water I chose the straight cold seat one as by the time hot water gets to the unit your done and the water in the pipe gets to room temperature anyway it can get a little cold for the 2nd or 3rd person who uses it in a short time period

Thank you to you and all your friends. It is nice to see the options. And as the other poster has said, I've seen RVers dump their cassette toilet in a friend's bathroom when they are driveway camping. And I have heard 2-3 days between dumps. In Europe, where cassette toilets are standard, they have automated stations starting to appear. You put the cassette in a cubby, the door closes, in a few minutes you get a clean cassette with a few ounces of deodorizer in it. How civilized.
